Negambo Acting Magistrate Has Remanded A Group Of 19 protestors Who Blocked The Negambo-Colombo Main Road Yesterday (03)

Negambo Acting Magistrate has today (03) remanded
19 persons including Three Wheeler drivers who had been arrested over protesting by blocking Colombo -Negambo Main road for hours during yesterday's private bus/three wheeler strike  until 09th of December.

The 19 suspects were produced before the Negambo Magistrate Court today (03).

Police had arrested these suspects yesterday (02)after disperse the group of protestors who protested by blocking the main road despite the court order by using tear gas and water canons .

A Sri Lankan Arrested At Katunayake Airport With 32 Kilo Grammes Of Wallapatta In His Possession

Airport customs officers have today (03) arrested a Sri
Lankan National  who attempted to smuggle 32 kilo grammes of expensive "Wallapatta" out of the country at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport.

The customs officers recovered the stock of "Wallapatta " also known as "Gyrinops " in the luggage of the  40 year old suspect who is a resident in Mawanalle area and arrived in the Airport to depart to Qatar .

The stock of "Wallapatta"arrested is worth around Rs.1 million according to the customs officers.The stock had been confiscated and customs imposed Rs.50,000 fine on the suspect.


Police Used Tear Gas And Water Canons To Disperse A Protest Campaign Near Parliament

Police had used tear gas and water canons to disperse a joint Opposition led Protest campaign held in front of Parliamentary complex this noon demanding government to hold local government elections immediately.

Former Provincial Councilors attached to Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) had participated the Protest.

Police had closed down the Parliament road from polduwa junction to jayanthipura junction due to the Protest.

President Gave Assuarance To Private Bus Unions That The Traffic Fines Will Be Increased After Consulting Relevant Parties

President Maithripala Sirisena has assured the Private Bus Operators Associations this morning that the Traffic fines will be increased only after consulting with Bus Associations according to All Ceylon Private Bus Operators Association.

During discussions held between President Sirisena and representatives of the  Bus Operators Association this morning President has assured this the Association has stressed.

President has also informed Bus Unions that he will appoint a special committee to look after the issues of Private Bus Operators.

Private Bus/Three Wheeler Unions Called Off Their Strike Action

Private Bus/Three Wheeler Unions have called off their island wide strike action this morning as President Maithripala Sirisena has given a discussion for them to discuss their problems the Unions have announced.

Private Buses and A section of Three Wheeler drivers had launched an Island Wide strike since midnight last Thursday (01) to oppose the budget proposal on increasing the minimum traffic violations fine to Rs.2500.
