A 70 Year Old Female Was Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

A 70 year old female had been killed this morning due to a wild elephant attack at Pimburaththawa in
Polonnaruwa district according to the Police.

A wild elephant has attacked the deceased while she was plucking flowers in front of her house to go to the temple in poya day.

Eva Wanasundare Has Been Sworn In As Acting Chief Justice

Senior Supreme Court Judge Eva Wanasundare has
been today (14) sworn in as the acting Chief Justice before President Maithripala Sirisena.

The swearing in ceremony was held at the President's House in Colombo Fort.



Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Has Called Off The Private Bus Strike Scheduled For Tomorrow (15)

The decision to launch an island wide private bus
strike (15) has been called off following a discussion held between Lanka Private Bus Owners Association(LPBOA) members and Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake this evening  the president of the LPBOA Gamunu Wijeratne has announced.

Lanka Private Bus Owners  Association has earlier announced an island wide strike tomorrow by demanding to withdraw the budget proposal on increasing  the minimum traffic offences fine to Rs.2500.

At the discussion Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has promised the Private Bus Owners Association members to submit a cabinet paper to the cabinet on withdrawing the budget proposal on increasing the minimum traffic offences fine to Rs.2500 ot has been revealed.

No Sri Lankans Had Been Affected Due To The Earthquake And Tsunami In New Zealand

No Sri Lankans had been  affected due to the powerful
earthquake  which strucked yesterday(13) in Christchurch ,New Zealand and the Tsunami occurred afterwards   the Sri Lankan consular officer  in New Zealand viduranga abeygunasekare has announced.

The 7.8 magnitude Earthquake which strucked 95 kilo meters away from Christchurch caused a Tsunami few hours afterwards and six feet high sea waves were seen in  Christchurch and two feet high sea waves seen in capital city Wellington according to reports.

Two persons were killed and a large number of properties destroyed as a result of the Earthquake and Tsunami in New Zealand.


Eleven Persons Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Accident

Eleven persons were hospitalized  this evening following the Bus they were travelling in turned over across the road at eighteenth mile post , (dahaata wanguwa ) Mahiyangana-Kandy Road.


The injured were admitted to the Hasalake Hospital for treatment and two of the injured were later transfered to Mahiyangana Hospital for further treatment.

The passenger Bus which travelling from Kandy to Dehiaththakandiya was turned over across the road after the driver lost control it has been reported.Around 38 passengers who were on their way home after attending a funeral were there in the Bus at the time of the accident.

Hasalake Police are conducting an investigation on the accident.
