Second And Third Year Faculties Of University Of Uva-Wellassa Have Closed Due To A Water Shortage

Authorities of the University of Uva-Wellassa had today (11) decided to close all the second and third year faculties of the University with immediatte effect for a one week period due to the severe water shortage prevails in the area at present.

As a result of the current drought students attached to the Uva-Wellassa University have faced a severe shortage water it has been reported.

However the first and fourth year faculties of the University remain opened the University Authorities have announced.



Colombo Additional Magistrate Fined Cricketer Ramith Rambukwella Over A Car Crash

The Colombo Additional  Magistrate Court has today (11) imposed a Rs.29,000 fine on the son of former Minister Keheliya Ramukwella and a Cricketer Ramith Rambukwella on charges of involved in a Road Accident under the influence of liquor.

The fine was imposed when the suspect had appeared before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Court this evening.

Ramith Rambukwella was earlier arrested and remanded  by the Police on 22nd of September following his car crashed into a wall at independance square in Colombo-07.However he was later released on police bail.

Authorities Have Temporarily Closed Four Schools In Badulla Due To A Smoke In Garbage Dump

Uva Provincial Educational Authorities have today (11) temporarily closed Four Schools in Badulla Education Division due to a smoke occurred as a result of a fire broke out three days ago in a garbage dump near by.

Accordingly Dharmadutha Collage in Badulla,Uva Maha Vidyalaya,Al Adhan Maha Vidyalaya and Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya have closed by the authorities.

The reopening dates of those Schools will be anounced later the Uva Provincial Educational Authorities have stated.


Residents Protest Caused A Heavy Traffic In Ja Ela This Morning

A heavy traffic has been reported on Negambo-Colombo Road this morning due to a protest campaign held by the residents in Ja Ela by blocking the Road near the Ja Ela junction against the decision taken by authorities to shift the Meethotamulla Garbage Dump  to an abandoned private land at Ekala Ja Ela(Western Province).

Due to the traffic the Police have advised the motorists to use an alternative routes it has been reported.

The Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils has eatlier announced that a licence is due to be obtained to shift the Meethotamulla Garbage Dump to a land in Ekala Ja Ela.

Meanwhile government has recenyly agreed the proposal made by a British Private Company on  allowing  them to take the garbage at Meethotamulla Garbage Dump after dividing the garbage  to Britain for recycling process.
