A Train Transporting Coal Was Derailed Near China Harbour

A train traveled from Trincomalee (In Eastern Province) to Mahawa area was derailed near the China Harbor Area in Trincomalee this morning.

Due to the derailment a train which scheduled to depart from Trincomalee at 11.20 a.m this morning to Galoya Area was delayed until 3 p.m this evening.

A train transporting coal has faced the derailment.Steps are being taken to restore the train services in Trincomalee Rail Track according to the railway control room in Anuradhapura.

Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy Has Been Appointed As The New Air Force Commander

The Defence Ministry has today (12) appointed the Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy as the new commander of Sri Lanka Air Force.

Accordingly he has been promoted to Air Marshal post from the Air Vice Marshal post prior to his appointment the Defense Ministry has stated.

The new Air Force Commander has joined the Air Force as a cadet officer on 05th of March 1982 and commissioned as a pilot officer in general duties in 1985.

Heavy Traffic Has Been Reported From Ja Ela-Minuwangoda Road Due To A Protest

A heavy traffic has been reported from Ekala-Ja Ela up to Minuwangoda road  (western Province) this morning as the residents of the area had staged a protest march near Ekala Junction  by blocking the road it has been reported.

The protest was held opposing the decision taken by the authorities to shift the dumping of garbage in Western Province to a abandoned private land in Ekala .

Due to the protest the police have advised the motorists to use alternative routes.

Air Port Customs Officers Have Arrested A Bolivian Female With Cocaine At Katunayake Air Port

The Air Port Customs Officers have arrested a Bolivian(South America)
Female who arrived from India with around 3 Kilo Grammes of Cocaine in her possession at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Air Port this evening.

The Customs Officers are currently questioning the suspected female and she is due to produce before the Negambo Magistrate Court tomorrow (13).
