Army Officer Detained Over Assassination Of Sunday Leader Editor Remanded Until 27th

The warrent officer attached To Army Intelligence Unit who was detained by the criminal Investigation Department(CID) yesterday (16) regarding the assassination of former  Editor of the Sunday Leader News paper Lasantha Wikramathunge has been remanded until 27 the of July.

The suspect was remanded after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court today(17).

The Army Officer was detained by CID  over the abduction.unlawful  detention and questioning of  the driver of assassinated editor after the assassination.

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe Had Left Singapore For A Three day Visit

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe has left Singapore this morning for a three day official visit according  to Government Sources.

During the visit Prime Minister Wikramasinghe is due to hold bi lateral talks with Singaporean President and Prime Minister.

He is also due to address the innauguration session of the Third South Asian Diaspora Summit tomorrow (18).

Twelve Foreigners And Five Locals Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Wasp Attack In Sigiriya

Seventeen persons including twelve foreigners and five Sri Lankans were injured and hospitalized this morning following a wasp attack occurred at entrance to the historical Sigiriya Rock.

Ten Chinese Nationals ,An Indian National and a German National along with five Sri Lankans from Mattakkuliya Area were admitted to Kimbissa  Hospital with injuries due to the wasp attack it has been reported.A Chinese National and another female who are among the  hospitslized have been transferred to Dambulla Hospital as their condition is critical.

A security officer attached to Cultural Triangle has been also among those who were  admitted to Kimbissa Hospital due to wasp attack.

Sri Lanka Navy have detained four local fishermen along with a stock of 18 sea cucumbers captured illegally and equipment used at Mandathivu area.

The detained fishermen and their equipment have been handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Office for future course of action the Navy have stated.
