Police Have Arrested Two Persons With Illegal Stock Of White Sandalwood At Grandpass

The Police have today(10) arrested two persons while illegally  transporting  450 Kilo Grammes of  chopped expensive White Sandalwood at Grandpass Area(In Colombo).

The two suspects were transporting the stock of chopped White Sandalwood through a lorry when arrests were made according to Police.

The two suspects who are residents of Negambo and Kottawa Areas due to be produced before Maligakanda Magistrate Court.

Wild Elephants Had Destroyed Crops Due To The Power Failure Of Electric Fence In Monaragala Divisional Secretariat


A Herd of Wild Elephants had entered the certain villages of 14th Mile Post Area attached to Monaragala Divisional Secretariat and are  destroying  the crops cultivated  by villagers due to the power failure of the electric fence according to sources.

Accordingly the Wild Elephants had destroyed several crop cultivation's in the Area during last few days villagers have stated.

Although the authorities have taken steps to restore the power supply during a power failure  to the Electric Fence few months ago  ,the power failure occur again villagers have stressed.

One Person Got Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Motor Car Accident On Southern Expressway

One person has got injured and hospitalized due to a Motor Car crashed into a high tension power post situated near the Godagama Entry(At Matara-Southern Province) of Southern Expressway this morning.

The injured person is currently receiving treatment at Matara General Hospital according to sources,Due to the accident the power supply to the area too got affected according to sources.

The accident has occurred due to the driver of the Motor Car falling a sleep whilst driving the Police have stated.

Constitutional Council To Meet On 18th Of April To Select A Suitable Candidate For Next IGP Post

The Constitutional Council of Sri Lanka is due to convene a meeting on 18th of April to select a suitable candidate for the post of next Inspector General Of Police(IGP).

Sri Lanka's current Inspector General Of Police N.K Ilangakoon is due to officially retire from his service with effect from tomorrow(11).

The Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena had nominated the names of three senior Deputy Inspector Generals(DIG) Pujitha Jayasundara,Chandana Wikramaratne and S,M Wikramsinghe to the Constitutional Council for IGP Post according to the sources.

The Constitutional Council is due to select the most suitable candidate among the three proposed names for the IGP Post during it's meeting on 18th of April the sources have stated.
