Police Inspector And A Constable Attach To Ahungalla Police Got Remanded For Accepting A Bribe

A Police Inspector and a Constable attach to Ahungalla(Southern Province) Police have been arrested and  remanded until 21st of April due to taken a Rs.5000 bribe from a person .

The Officers of the Bribery Commission have yesterday (08) arrested the said Police Inspector and the Constable while accepting the bribe .After produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate Court they were ordered to remand until 21st of April.

Supreme Court Confirmed 19Th Amendment Is Consistent With Constituiton -Speaker

The Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe has today(09) informed the Parliament that Supreme Court has confirmed proposed 19th Amendment is consistent with the constitution and certain  sections in the Amendment required a referendum to approve .

As soon as the speaker informed the Supreme Court's decision on 19th Amendment Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinha has told the Parliament that the government will omit the sections which require a referendum.

The Supreme Court gave it's decision after examining 19 petitions filed against the 19th Amendment.

Meanwhile the  President Maithripala Sirisena  has announced today that the draft bill on 19th Amendment will be presented to the Parliament on 20th of April and soon after it got passed the Parliament will be dissolved to hold  a fresh general elections.However the main  opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) has stated that they will  backing  the government to pass the draft bill only if the new electoral reforms included in the bill.The new general elections should be held under a new electoral system the SLFP has stated.

Sathosa Has Earned A Record Breaking Revenue During March This Year

The State owned Lanka Sathosa Limited has earned a record breaking Rs.3.2 billion as revenue on  March this year by selling consumer goods according to the Sathosa Sources.When compared to March last year(2014) the  revenue in March this year has increased by Rs.1 billion the sources have added.

During March last year Sathosa has earned Rs.2.2 Billion as  revenue. Sathosa Chairman Mr.Kiran Atapattu has told  this writer today that on 06th of April alone the revenue earned by Sathosa was topped Rs.160 million which was the highest revenue earned during a single day.The revenue in March has increased due to the dedication and commitment of the Sathosa Staff he has said.

Main Opposition Party SLFP To Oppose The 19th Amendment If Electoral Reforms Are Not Included

The main opposition  Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) has said today(08) that the Party will only supporting the government to pass the draft bill on 19th Amendment  if the electoral reforms too included in the bill .

Addressing the Media in Colombo today (08) the General Secretary Of The Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has said that if the government tries to pass the 19th amendment without the new electoral reforms it will not getting the support of SLFP to pass the draft bill.

The Draft Bill on 19th amendment with constitutional reforms which was approved by the Cabinet has been tabled in the Parliament recently.

"As the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has already prepared a report on the proposed electoral reforms there's no reason for the government to delay of adding electoral reforms to the  19th amendment" SLFP General Secretary has said.

MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has also said that although 26 SLFP MP's have been accepted ministerial portfolios in the government recently still the Opposition is having  two third majority in the Parliament.
