Court Of Appeal Has Issued An Interim Order To Suspend Full Face Helmet Ban

The Court Of Appeal has today(02) issued an interim order by suspending the gazette notification on banning the using of full face helmets by  motorcycles until 27th of April.The Police Department had earlier  decided to implement the ban with effect from today.

However after considering a petition filed by  two motorcyclists  who are challenging the ban   the bench of Judges in Court Of Appeal has issued an interim order to suspend the gazette notification.

The Petitioners have stated in their petition that if the ban of using full face helmets imposed it will cause motorcyclists a great inconvenience.

President Has Pardoned The Female Who Damaged The Mirror Wall Of Sigirya Frescoes

President Maithripala Sirisena has today (02) pardoned the 23 year old Batticloe female garment worker who was sentenced to two years imprisonment for damaging the mirror wall of Sigiriya Frescoes by using sharp object .The female Sinnathambi Udeni was arrested by the archeology officers in Sigiriya on 15th of February and handed over to the Sigiriya Police.

After produced before the court she has been sentenced to two years imprisonment as the investigations report has been revealed that the  damage she has done to the historical mirror wall of the sigiriya frescoes cannot be corrected.

The accused had also accepted her wrong doing but stated at the court
that she was not aware on the historical value of the mirror wall as that was the first time she has been visited Sigiriya.

Full Face Helmet Ban To Be Implemented From Today(02)

The Banning of wearing Full Face Helmets by the motorcyclists will be implemented with effect from today (02) according to the Police Department.As a first step the ban will be implemented as a warning opportunity  the department has said.

The aim of the banning of wearing full face helmets is to reduce the robberies and crimes occur by using these helmets.Over the past few months robberies and crimes done by people wearing full face helmets have been increased Police have said.

However the government has yesterday said that the banning  of wearing full face helmets will be implemented from next May not from today as planned.Few days a go a section of motorcyclists have protested in Colombo against the full face helmet ban.

Main Opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party To Propose New Reforms To The 19th Amendment

Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) which belongs to the main opposition  has decided to propose new reforms to the draft bill on 19th Amendment which proposed to reduce several executive powers of the Executive Presidency.

SLFP  is with the view that reducing several executive powers of the Presidency including the chief of the government status should discuss further as it attempts to make Prime Minister's Post more powerful with several executive powers the secretary to the SLFP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has said.

As SLFP is still strong in the opposition, without their backing the new government will not be able to pass the bill with two thirds majority he has further stated.

The Draft Bill On 19th Amendment has been tabled in Parliament last week.

Two Were Killed And Twenty Eight Got Injured Due To A Army Truck-Bus Collision

Two persons including an Army Personal  were killed and another 28 Passengers got  injured and hospitalized after a Army Truck and a Passenger Bus collided head to head at Ratnapura New Town this evening.Army Truck was travelling Diaytahalawa to Kuruwita in Ratanapura District when it collided with the bus which was  travelling in the opposition direction.

Injured were admitted to the Ratnapura Hospital.

Special Gazette Has Been Issued To Reduce Cement Prices

A special gazette notification has been issued on reducing the price of 50 Kilo Gramme Cement Bags per the proposal made through the Interim Budget  recently.According to the Gazette Notification  a 50 Kilo Gramme Cement Bag issuing to the market from any trade name should be sold for Rs.870 from now onwards and distributing ,selling and displaying of Cement Bags above the given price should be a punishable offense.
