Commuters Stranded As Private Bus Owners Launched A Bus Strike Today

Due to the Bus Strike launched by Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) this morning commuters mainly office workers and school children underwent severe hardships as majority of Private Buses withdrawn from roads.The commuters were seen stranded  several hours to get a bus as only a handful of buses operated by government owned Lanka Transport Service Buses(Langama) running in roads.

Most of the Roads island wide were seen empty from buses and 

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association launched the Bus Strike from mid night yesterday as a move to opposing  the fuel price increase by heavy margin.

Meanwhile there were reports that stoning of running buses by Some of the Striking Private Bus Conductors and Drivers .The   Police have arrested 29 Private Bus Conductors and Drivers at Narahenpita Bus Stand in this regard  and produced them before Colombo Magistrate court this morning.The magistrate have ordered to remand 4 persons Out of the 29 arrested till tomorrow(14) while others were released on personal bail.

Meanwhile the fishermen in Negambo who launched a strike today protesting against the fuel price increase were held protests this morning  by blocking Colombo-Chilaw Road at periyamulla junction.
