A tense situation erupted in Magazine Prison in Welikada,Colombo this noon turned in to a Violent Clash after several Prison Inmates who were clashed with Prison Officials and Police Officers left 21 injured with 2 in critical condition.Injured were admitted to the Accident Service of Colombo National Hospital .A prison officer too was among those hospitalized with injuries according to prison sources.
The tense situation occurred after several prison inmates of the Magazine Prison staged a protest inside prison against what they have called the actions of newly appointed officer to Prison.Then the violent clashes broken out as Police fired gun shots to the air to control the tense situation.Riot Police too arrived the scene and tear gas canisters too used to dispersed the protestors.
A fire broke out inside the prison due to the clashes and Fire Brigade which arrived the place managed to control the fire.
The Prison Officials have said that the prisoners are not happy with the new laws introduced recently to prevent transporting Drugs inside the prison and that may have caused the tense situation.

Mahela Jayawardena Has Been Appointed as New Sri Lankan Cricket Captian
The Board of Control For Cricket in Sri Lanka has today (23)appointed Mahela Jayawardena as the new captain of Sri Lankan National Cricket Team by replacing on going captain T.M Dilshan .Before the announcement of Mahela's appointment as new skipper T.M Dilshan was reported as sent a letter to the Cricket Board stating his resignation from the captiancy.
All Rounder Angello Mathews has been appointed as deputy captain of the team.Sri Lankan Cricket Team lost both the Test and ODI Series just concluded in South Africa .However during the series managed to secure their first Test win over South Afriica .
Meanwhile The Cricket Board sources have revealed that they are planning to appoint a new coach and managment for the Sri Lankan Crcket Team as well.The sources also said that Sports Minister Mahindananda Althgamage wants to change the structure of the Team as well.The Sri Lankan Team is scheduled to depart to Australia for a tri nation one day match tour soon.

Executive Committee Of Joint Council Of Professions Supplementary To Medicine To Meet Tomorrow On Their Future Trade Union Action
The Executive Committee of the Joint Council of Professions Supplementary To Medicine (JCPSM) is due to meet 12 noon tomorrow(24) to decide their future trade union action for winning 08 of their service demands.According to the Secretary of JCPSM Mr.Saman Jayasekera it is most likely to decide continuous island wide strike of Professions Supplementary To Medicine during tomorrow's meeting.
The PSM's compromising government pharmacists,radiographers,physiotherapists,medical laboratory technicians (MLT)and occupational therapists were staged a protest campaign in front of the Ministry Of Health on last Tuesday and launched an island wide sick note campaign on Wednesday demanding an acceptable solutions for their demands but failed to received a favorable response from authorities Mr.Jayasekera has said.
Meanwhile the salary review commission has given a meeting to JCPSM on 01st of February to discuss on their demands on salary anomalies he has further added.
