The Colombo National Hospital Doctors who were launched a token Strike this morning over appointments of two additional members to Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) temporarily suspended their strike action around 10.30 a.m this morning.
Doctors token strike launched at 8 a.m this morning was suspended after two and half hours as the Health Minsiter Maithripala Sirisena had given a written assurance to Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) to cancel the appointment of crucial member who is related to a private medical collage project.
However during the meeting summoned by National Hospital Branch of GMOA this morning to discuss whether to accept the minister's assurance or not heated words and arguments were exchanged between ordinary members of GMOA and Executive Committee members over not looking in to members demands.In that stage the ordinary members have tried to assault the Exco members a National Hospital Spokesmen has said.
While charging the Exco members for betraying ordinary members demands without discussing with them angry doctors gathered for the meeting tried to assault some exco members who were present there,However the attempt was prevented by senior medical officers.Finally at the meeting the members have decided to suspend the said strike action till 12 noon on Wednesday (25),'
Meanwhile Health Minister Maithrepala Sirisena has sent a fax to GMOA regarding cancelling the appointment of Dr.Herath one of the two controversial additional members appointed by Minister.
