A Executive Committee of GMOA is due to meet this Thursday (19) to decide the future course of action should be taken in this regard he added.
Speaking at a Press Conference held at GMOA Office today (17th) Dr.Padeniya said it's the first time in 85 year old history of Sri Lanka Medical Council that a Health Minister has appointed two additional members to the Council after all members of the body have been appointed. Also the Minister him self violated the Medical Council Act that stated Health Minister can only appoint 4 members to the Council by appointing 6 members already " he pointed out."Out of the two additional members appointed one member who is a doctor by profession was involved in a failed Private Medical Collage project launched few years back " he stressed.
"As the SLMC originally compromised with 25 members including of President and Registrar the latest appointments increased it's number to 27 and GMOA sees this action as an attempt to bring back the concept of private medical collages "Dr.Padeniya has revealed. He also said that the Health Minister should taken steps to removed those two new members appointed to SLMC with immediate effect else facing a trade union action by Medical Professionals.
