A large group of Students attached to Sri Jayawardenapura University in Nugegoda staged a massive protest this noon form University Premises to President's official Residence of "Temple Trees" in Galle Road by demanding the immediate removal of Vice Chancellor in Jayawardenapura University .The Protesting University Students including Student Monks marched towards Temple Treas to handover a letter on their demand to the President Mahinda Rajapaksha ,but were stopped near Colpetty (In Heart of Colombo)Junction by Police who used Road Barricades to prevent the students from passing over there.
Policemen including Riot Police and Special Task Force were seen deployed in Colpetty Junction with Tear Gas Canisters to use if there is a violence .However Students whose protest march caused heavy traffic in the main roads of Bambalapitiya to Colpetty were not trying to break the blockage implemented by Police however involved in hot arguments with Higher Police Officials over the Blockage.
Early in the morning a minor explosion has damaged the "Student Activists Memorial Monument " (Sisiu Wiru Smarakaya) situated in front of Sri Jayawardenapura University to remember the student activists who were killed during students unrest in 1971,1988 and 1989.The University Authorities claimed a group of University Students were responsible for damaging the statue through a bomb explosion.
Protesting University Students said the Vice Chancellor of Jayawardenapura University is terrorizing in the University by taking revenge from students who opposed his policies and urged the need for removing him with immediate effect.The heavy Traffic occurred due to the Protest March of Students lasted few hours as commuters faced hardships due to Traffic.

27,569 Dengue Patients Reported Last Year
Throughout last year (2011) 27,569 Dengue Patients were reported from the Island and out of them 173 patients had died according to Epidemeology Unit sources.
Out of the total number of dengue patients reported last year 56.11% were reported from western province sources have added.The majority of patients were reported in month of July it further said.

Former Interim Committee Chief Elected Uncontested As President Of Sri Lankan Cricket Board
The former President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee Mr.Upali Dharmadasa has been appointed as the new president of Sri Lankan Cricket Board uncontested during the first ever Elections held to appoint officials for Cricket Board in years held at it's premises today (03)
Earlier Mr.Mohan De Silva who was due to contest for the President Of Sri Lankan Cricket Board was removed his team from the elections as a protest on the procedure adapted during the elections.The former secretary of Sri Lankan Cricket Interim Committee who is under fire for mismanaging of millions of rupees belongs to Interim Committee has also elected as new secretary of the Board uncontested.

Medical Students Action Committee Urged The Government To Cancel The Appointment Of Professor Carlo Fonseka
The Medical Students Action Committee has today urged the government to cancel the political appointment of Professor Carlo Fonseka as President of Sri Lanka Medical Council and appoint an Independent intellectual to the Council with immediate effect.
Speaking at a Press Briefing held in National Library Services Board in Colombo today (03) the convener of Action Committee Nilan Fernando has said that they will launch a series of protest campaigns with participation of Medical Students in coming weeks against the appointment of Professor Carlo Fonseka as SLMC President and to protest against Malabe Private Medical Collage.
" Professor Fonseka's appointment was a politically motivated one and it will directly affected the ongoing crisis on controversial Malabe Private Medical Collage as well as the bogus certificate issue of a group of Assistant Medical Practitioners" he has stressed.There fore government should cancel the politically made appointments like these which are favoring them in crisis situations " Convener of the Medical Students Action Committee further said.

GMOA Has Cancelled Their Emergency Exco Meeting Scheduled For Today And Re Summon It This Thursday
The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) had cancelled their Emergency Executive Meeting scheduled to be held today (02)to decide on their future course of action against appointing Professor Carlo Fonseka as the new President Of Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).The Executive Meeting is now scheduled on this Thursday (05) noon according to Assistant Secretary of GMOA Dr.Upul Gunesekera.
Last December GMOA has decided to withdraw the registrations of all Government MBBS Doctors from SLMC if the government has appointed Professor Fonseka as President of SLMC.
Meanwhile Professor Fonseka has assumed his duties of his new post on 10 a.m this morning at SLMC Office in Colombo.

GMOA To Summon A Special Ex co Meeting Tomorrow On New SLMC President
The Executive Committee of the Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) is to summon a special meeting tomorrow(02) morning to decide their future course of action regarding the appointment of Professor Carlo Fonseka as New President of Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) according to GMOA Sources.

The current chairman of National Authority On Tobacco And Alcohol ,Professor Carlo Fonseka has been appointed as the new President of Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) with immediate effect.He is due to assume his duties at SLMC Office tomorrow morning according to government sources.
Around 40 colleges of Medical Practitioners and Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) had appealed from President Mahinda Rajapaksha refrain from appointing Professor Fonseka for the SLMC President Post citing his appointment will become a political motivated one.Professor Fonseka has been appointed after former SLMC President Professor Lalitha Mendis has handed over her resignation citing personal reasons.However GMOA has wanted Professor Mendis to continue as SLMC President till a suitable appointment has been made.
It has been reported that Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena had made this appointment despite the protests of GMOA and other Colleges of Medical Practitioners.
