Trade Unions Attached To Apparel And Health Sectors Sent A Petition To ILO On Violating Their Rights

Joint Trade Union Alliance compromising around 13 trade unions attached to Apparel and Health Sectors sent a petition to the International Labour Organization in Geneva ,Switzerland and appeal  to intervene and stop discrimination faced by their trade unions with the hands of  the government at present.

From the petition which has sent a week ago the trade unions have stated that at present if they are launch a trade union action their members even got arrested by the authorities by violating their trade union rights.

33 Percent Of The Total Number Of Dengue Patients Reported This Year Are From Colombo District

The majority of the Dengue Patients reported througout the Island this year are from Colombo District according to the Additional Secretary of the Health Ministry Dr.Palitha Mahipala.He said that 33 percent of  the total number of Dengue Patients reported so far this year had reported from Colombo District.

Colombo District along with the Colombo City are among the 11 high risky zones identified as the Dengue prone areas Dr.Mahipala has stressed.

Addressing a Press Briefing held today at Family Health Bureau this morning He also said that the Presidential Task Force on Dengue Prevention has declared a "National Anti Mosquito Week" between 20th to 26th of June and during that week Po;ice along with tri forces will accompany the Health Officials who are conducting inspections on Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places throughout the island.

University Academics To Withdraw From GCE Advanced Level Examination Evaluation Process


The Federation Of University Teachers Association (FUTA)has decided to withdraw academics from this years GCE Advanced Level evaluation process scheduled to be conducted during september.The Association has said that the decision of  withdrawing academics from the process was taken during the Executive Meeting of FUTA held in last Friday.

FUTA is due to inform the Examinations Commissioner officially on the trade union action during this week.Few weeks back  The University Academics have withdrawn from their voluntarily posts held within Universities by demanding a pay hike


According to the President of FUTA Dr.Nimal Ranjith Dewasiri this trade union has taken to strengthen University Teachers Trade Union Action as they still not received a solution for their demand on substantial pay hike.

Ten New SSP Posts To Be Promote As DIG's

Ten new senior superintendents of police(SSP) have been promoted to the rank of deputy inspector general of  police(DIG) with effect from 13th of June according to the police media.

However according  to the Police Media Spokesman the new Inspector General Of Police(IGP) will be appointed on 18th of June after the retirement date of former IGP Dr.Mahinda Balasuriya.

North Central Provincial Education Ministry To Close Down 20 School For A Week For Poson

The North Central Provincial Education Ministry has decided to close down 20 Government Schools in Anuradhapura District from today up to next friday(17th) due to security arrangements of the forthcoming Poson Festival.According to the Ministry the schools are shut down in a view to accomodate security personnal arrive to provide security in Anuradhapura and Mihintale areas.
The extra lessons will be conducted for  students of these schools in scheduled dates to cover the lessons lost the ministry has said.

Asian Group To Support Ban Ki Moon For The Second Term As UN Secretary General

The Asian Group including Sri Lanka has expressed their support towards United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on his bid to elect for the second term of his post.

The Asian Group has unanimously decided to support Ban Ki Moon for appointing as UN Secretary General  for the second five year term from January 2012 .As  the UN Secretary General Post  is uncontested this time the UN Security Council is due to meet  and  endorse him before the General Assembly meets and endorse him in September.

75,000 Coconuts Imported From Kerala Destroyed As They Are Unfit For Consumption

Around 75,000 Coconuts imported from Indian State of Kerala during the festive season on last April have been destroyed on their arrival to Colombo Harbour as they proved not suitable for consumption according to the Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernanado.

Minister has stated this during todays Parliamentray Sessions as a answer to the question raised by JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake .

These Coconuts were imported during the festive season to reduced  escalating prices of Coconuts in local market.
