North Central Provincial Education Ministry To Close Down 20 School For A Week For Poson

The North Central Provincial Education Ministry has decided to close down 20 Government Schools in Anuradhapura District from today up to next friday(17th) due to security arrangements of the forthcoming Poson Festival.According to the Ministry the schools are shut down in a view to accomodate security personnal arrive to provide security in Anuradhapura and Mihintale areas.
The extra lessons will be conducted for  students of these schools in scheduled dates to cover the lessons lost the ministry has said.

Asian Group To Support Ban Ki Moon For The Second Term As UN Secretary General

The Asian Group including Sri Lanka has expressed their support towards United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on his bid to elect for the second term of his post.

The Asian Group has unanimously decided to support Ban Ki Moon for appointing as UN Secretary General  for the second five year term from January 2012 .As  the UN Secretary General Post  is uncontested this time the UN Security Council is due to meet  and  endorse him before the General Assembly meets and endorse him in September.

75,000 Coconuts Imported From Kerala Destroyed As They Are Unfit For Consumption

Around 75,000 Coconuts imported from Indian State of Kerala during the festive season on last April have been destroyed on their arrival to Colombo Harbour as they proved not suitable for consumption according to the Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernanado.

Minister has stated this during todays Parliamentray Sessions as a answer to the question raised by JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake .

These Coconuts were imported during the festive season to reduced  escalating prices of Coconuts in local market.

High Level Indian Delegation To Visit Sri Lanka This Friday

A High Level Indian Delegation is due to arrive Sri Lanka on this Friday(10) for a two day visit to discuss bi lateral issues between the two countries.

The delegation including the Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and Defense Secretary Pradeep Kumar is due to meet Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister Professor G.L Pieris to discuss issues important for both countries according to the External Affairs Ministry sources.

All Police Officers In Katunayaka Police Transferred

All Police Officers attached to the Police Station in Katunayaka have been transferred with immediate effect according to the acting Inspector General Of Police N.K Ilangakoon.

This action has been taken due to the  blame pointed towards Police following the death of a Free Trade Zone Worker in Katunayake last week .The Worker has succumbed to his injuries after received gun shot injuries during the clash erupted between  Free Trade Zone Workers and the Police .

Science And Commerce Student Percentage In Universities To Be Increased By 2015

The Government has decided to increase the percentage of  Students taken  to Universities from  Science and Commerce Subject streems of Advanced Level Examination by  year 2015 according to the Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

The Minister has informed Parliament today that under this programme students taken from Science streem will be increased to 45 percent and students from Commerce Stream will increase up to 30 percent.

Elections Secretariet Has Informed Government Institution Heads To Stop Recruitments,Promotions And Transfers To Govt.Service

The Election Secretariet has informed all Government Institution Heads through a circular to stop all  recruitments,promotions and transfers to the Government Service till the end of  Local Government Elections due to  be conduct in 23rd of July this year.

"If an Institution violates the regualtions of above circular we are keen to take action against it " the Election Secretariet has said.
