Six Candidates Handed Over Their Deposits For The Presidential Elections



Six Party Candidates today Handed Over their Deposits for the Forthcoming Presidential Elections.According to the Election Department Sources the Six Candidates who Deposited the Required Amount of Money  are P.D.A Liyanage from Sri Lanka Workers Party,Sarath Manamendra from New Sihala Urumaya Party,P.A Peter Nelson from Sri Lanka Progressive Party,M.B Thaminimulla of Okkoma Wasiyo Okkoma Rajawaru Party , Sirithunga Jayasuriya from United Socialist Party and A.Asoka Suraweera from National Development Front.

Around Ten Candidates were announced that they will contesting for the Forthcoming Presidential Elections scheduled to be held in 26th of January 2010 as President Mahinda Rajapaksha and Common Candidate for  the Opposition General Sarath Fonseka become  main contenders.The Official Date for the Handing over of Nominations for the Election is 17th of December 2009.Contestents who are representing Recognized Political Parties need to Deposit  a Sum of Rs.50,000 for the Elections and An Independent Candidate should Deposited a Sum of Rs.75,000.

Opposition Alliance Supported General Fonseka For Presidency Expanded

The Joint Opposition Alliance United National Alliance who supported the Common Candidate for the Forthcoming Presidential Elections General Sarath Fonseka expanded to a 16 Party Alliance from 12 Parties General Secretary of the Alliance Tissa Attanayaka announced today.Another Two Parties joined the Opposition Alliance today including the Muslim Liberation Front he stressed.

The United National Alliance was formed by few weeks ago to support General Fonseka as a Common Candidate for the Presidency.

World AIDS Day Falls To Day


To day(01) is World AIDS Day.Right to getting services is the theme of this years World AIDS Day.
According to the UNAIDS around 33 Million People World Wide are currently living with HIV/AIDS Virus.

In Sri Lanka The Lanka Plus A Organization of  HIV Postives organized a Trade Fair at Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo this Morning to commemorate the World Aids Day.

President Rajapaksha To Present Extended Version Of His Yester Year Election Manifesto

President Mahinda Rajapaksha is planning to present an  Extended Version of his Election Manifesto of Last Presidential Elections "The Mahinda Chintanaya " for the forthcoming Presidential Elections Government Information Department announced today.Information Department quoting the Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma has said that the Presidents Election Manifesto will be presented to the Public after handing over the Nominations on 17th of December.

President Rajapaksha presented his  Manifesto The "Mahinda Chintanaya "(Mahinda Philosophy)During the Presidential Elections in 2005.Sri Lankan Presidential Election is due to be held in 26th of January 2010.

General Fonseka Selected "Swan" as his Election Symbol

General Sarath Fonseka who is the Common Candidate for the Sri Lankan Presidential Elections said that he selected "Swan" as his Election Symbol.The New Party is due to Form soon to Enable him Contesting for the Elections he further added.

Addressing a Packed Press Briefing in Colombo today General Fonseka further said that he was selected "Swan" as his Election Symbol due to it Representing Cleanness and the Swan can distinguish  Water from Milk..

Although General Fonseka is due to contest for Presidential Elections from a Newly formed Party and a Symbol he is getting the support from the 12 Party Member Joint Opposition Alliance  the United National Front (UNF) and the leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP).

General Fonseka To Abolish Executive Presidency And Ensure The Living Rights Of The People If Elected

The Common Candidate of  the Joint Opposition For the forthcoming Presidential Elections Retired General Sarath Fonseka today said that If he wins the Elections the first thing he is planning to do is Bringing the 17th Amendment to the Constitution to Abolish the 31 year Old Executive Presidency.Soon after electing as President Parliament will Dissolved to elect a House responsible for people General Fonseka said during a Press Briefing held in Colombo this morning.

He also said that he will removed the Corruption and Waste  from the Administration and leading the Country towards Economic Prosperity."The  Election Manifesto of my campaign including the Economic Proposals to Develop the Country will be presented soon he added.Answering to a Question raised by a Journalist General Fonseka said His hands are Clean and no one can slinging Mud against him or Assassin his Character and he too not going to involve  in such Campaigns against his Opponents.

I will not wear the Military Uniform after electing as President he stressed.

Majority should protect the Rights and Privileges of the Minorities in the Country and the War against the LTTE is not a War against Tamils he further Added.General Fonseka also stressed that he will take necessary steps  to ensure the rights of Living of every Citizen if he elected to Power.

The Presidential Elections is scheduled to be held in 26th of January 2010.

General Fonseka Announced His Willingness To Contest For The Presidency

Retired General Sarath Fonseka who is nominated by the Joint Opposition as their Common Candidate for the  Presidential Elections little while ago announced that He will Contest the forthcoming Presidential Elections.General Fonseka revealed this during his S peach at a Lawyers Meeting currently underway in Colombo.He further said that he will win the Presidential Elections and after his Victory he will work towards abolishing the Executive Presidency.


General Fonseka said that he has no intention to Enter Politics but forcibly pushing to it due to the Disappointed show by the Present Government.He also stressed that if he got a Clear Mandate and Abolish the Executive Presidency will decide the future course of Action according to Peoples Vote he received.


General Fonseka Made these Remarks with the Presence of the Leader Of Opposition  Ranil Wickremasingha,Several Opposition Members and the former Government MP and Lawyer Wijedasa Rajapaksha.


This is the first time General Fonseka Publicly spoken on his Political Interests since he Retirment from the  Chief Of Defense Staff  Post a Week ago.
