Petroleum,Water,Electricity And Ports Employees To Launch Work To Rule Campaign From Tomorrow


While the Government agreed for  a 22 Percent Pay Hike to be pay from Next January for the Employees of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation,Water Board,Electricity Board and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority the Trade Unions of these Institutions refused the offer and  decided to go ahead with the scheduled three day Work To Rule Campaign begin from tomorrow(11).

During the Talks held between the Join Trade Unions of the above Institutions and the Treasury Secretary Dr.P.B Jayasundara on yesterday it has been proposed a 22 Percent Pay Hike for these Employees with the effect from this November and to be pay on Next January.However the Trade Unions participated to talks are refusing it and the Talks proved to be failure at the end.The Trade Unions representing Ceylon Petroleum,Water Board,Electricity Board and Ports Authority today announced that they will launch the three day work to rule campaign from tomorrow.

Sri Lanka And Australia Signed An Agreement To Combat Human Smuggling

Sri Lanka and Australia today signed an Agreement in Colombo to Jointly Fight against Human Smuggling.The Agreement signed between the Sri Lankan Officials along with the Visiting Australian Foreign Minister Stephan Smith and the Agreement proposed to set up a National Level Focal Point in Sri Lanka to deal with Human Smuggling.

Medical Superintendant Sent Compulsory Leave On Charge Of Attempted Sexual Harassment


The Medical Superintendent (MS)Of the Alpitiya Base Hospital in Southern Sri Lanka sent Compulsory Leave by the Southern Provincial Health Services Director on Charge of Attempted Sexual Harassment towards  a Young Lady Doctor working in  the same Hospital.The MS who tried to Harassed the Lady Doctor while she was engaged in her Duties at the Hospital on last Wednesday it has been revealed.

The Southern Provincial Health Services Director Dr.Senerath already appointed an  Investigation Team compromising with two Administrative Doctors to investigate on the Incident.The Incident was also informed to the Director General of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis by the Southern Provincial Health Authorities.

First Swine Flu Death Reported From Sri Lanka


The First Swine Flu(H1N1 New Influenza) Death  reported from Sri Lanka was confirmed yesterday. The Patient was a 16 year old Student of a Private School in Kandy and he  died due to Swine Flu on last Wednesday.However the Blood Test Report of the Student only issued yesterday by the Medical Research Institute.

The Student who was suffering from a Lung Infection since childhood was died due to breathing difficulty while he was receiving ICU treatment at the Kandy General Hospital.Both his parents are Doctors attached to a Government Hospital.When he was admitted to the Kandy General Hospital his first Blood Test Report was negative and only through the Second Test that he was found Positive for the Swine Flu.

The first Swine Flu Patient was reported from Sri Lanka in  last June.

Australian Foreign Minister To Arrive Sri Lanka Tomorrow

Australian Foreign Minister Stephan Smith is scheduled to arrive Sri Lanka tomorrow to discuss the Issues of Human Smuggling and the Re Settling Process of the IDP's with Sri Lankan Counterparts.This is the  the First Official visit of an Australian Foreign Minister to Sri Lanka since 2003.

Recently two Boatloads of Tamil Asylum Seekers who were heading towards Australia were disembarked in Indonesia .Australia had refused to accept these Asylum Seekers.

IMF Agreed To Supply $322 Million Loan For Sri Lanka

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund(IMF) today agreed to release the First Installment of the  requested loan of  over $322 Million for Sri Lanka.IMF Executive Board agreed to released the Loan after reviewing Sri Lankan Government's Progress on Implementing the Reforms agreed on last July.

In last July the IMF approved a 20 Month stand by Agreement for Sri Lanka by providing $ 2.6 Billion loan for the Country.This Loan was approved to help the Sri Lankan Government to overcome the effects of International Finnancial Crisis and Supporting the Economy.

State Of Emergancy Passed With Majority Votes

The State Of Emergancy was extended for another Month as it passed by the Parliament on this evening.While 95 Voted for the Emergancy and 17 Voted Against including of the Tamil National Alliance(TNA) and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC)Members.The memebers of the main Opposition United Natonal Party(UNP) were  absent when the Voting took place.
