Sri Lankan Dengue Control Programme A Total Failiure Says Government Docs Union

The Dengue Control Programme launched by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health to combat the spreading of the disease in the Island proved to be a total failure and there is a need to launch a National Strategy Campaign based on new scientific methods to combat the Dengue Menace successfully Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) of Sri Lanka urged in a letter sent to the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Dengue Fever which caused by the Dengue Mosquito is spreading rapidly throughout the country as over 11,000 patients have been reported in this year up to now and the disease already claimed 146 lives.

In this letter to the president GMOA stressed the need to appoint a Presidential Committee to implement this National Strategy on combating Dengue and urged the President to intervene into this.The Dengue Control Campaign should be implemented under the supervision of Professionals and Scientists who are capable of addressing the issue and they should be given a free hand to take decisions GMOA further said.

Dengue Campaign should run without Political Influence GMOA stressed.

First Four Swine Flu Patients Fully Recovered From The Disease

The first four Swine Flu Patients reported from Sri Lanka who are belongs to the one family completely recovered from their illness and discharged from the Angoda Fever Hospital according to the Director of the Hospital Dr.Anura Senanayake.He said three of these patients were discharged today and the First Swine Flu Patient was discharged on last Saturday.

Now only the latest Swine Flu victim a ten year old Girl who returned from Australia as the first Four Patients along with Three suspected Swine Flu Cases are trceiving special treatment from the Hosital Dr.Senanayake stressed.

Meanwhile the checking of the Air Passengers returning from Swine Flu hit countries continues further according to the Air Port Health Authorities.

Two Sri Lankan UN Staff Members Detained By The Security -Colombo UN Office

United Nations Office in Sri Lankan Capital Colombo says two of it's local Staff Members were detained by the Sri Lankan Security Authorities.UN Office further said that these two staff Members were seems to be missing two day s ago but later found Out that they were detained by the Security.

UN Office contacted the Sri Lankan Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Justice Ministry over the arrest of these Two Employees says that they are concerned over the safety of their Staff Members.But according to UN Office it still not been told the basis of their arrest.

Meanwhile France today criticized the arrest of two Sri Lankan UN Staff Members.

Fifth Swine Flu Patient Of Sri Lanka Reported

The Fifth Swine Flu Patient of Sri Lanka reported today and that patient too was a Sri Lankan who was returned from Australia as other four patients.Fifth Swine Flu patient is a Ten year old girl returned to Sri Lanka from Melbourne-Australia via Singapore Health Authorities said.She is also became the first female Swine Flu Patient of Sri Lanka as other four patients are young boys.

Fifth patient who was returned yesterday to Sri Lanka is currently receiving the treatment from the Fever Hospital in Angoda of the Colombo Suburbs.

Health Authorities of the Katunayaka International Air Port in Colombo says that the 264 Passengers who were in aboard the Singapore Air Line Flight which carried the Swine Flu Patient will quarantined for a week inside their homes and the Provincial Health authorities were instructed on this.

Meanwhile the first Swine Flu Patient reported from here was discharged from hospital on last saturday as he was fully recovered after a week of special treatment.Other three patients who are his cousin brothers are still in the Hospital.

Ministerial Inquiry On Missing Files Of Docs To Be Concluded Next Week

The Inquiry Carried out by the Special Investigations Unit of the Sri Lankan Ministry Of Health over the missing of 18 Personal Files belongs to the Sri Lankan Government Doctors is due to be concluded next week Ministry Spokesman said today.Maradana Police in Colombo began a Separate Investigation over this matter after the Ministry lodged a Complaint on this incident last week.

The Report of the Investigation carried out by the Ministry is due to handover to the Health Secretary after the completion of the Inquiry .

The above files which majority are belongs to the Doctors who did not returned to Sri Lanka after completing their Specialists Training in Abroad went missing from the Medical Services Branch of the Health Ministry since 10th of June.

Another Eight Suspected Swine Flu Cases Identified From Sri Lanka

Besides the Four Swine Flu Patients reported from Sri Lanka another Eight suspected Swine Flu Patients were admitted to the IDH Hospital during today Hospital Director Dr.Anura Senanayaka said.

These Eight Suspected Swine Flu Patients are relatives of the Four Swine Flu Patients so far reported and their Blood Samples were sent to the Medical Research Institute in Colombo for further tests he stressed.

Meanwhile Addressing a Press Briefing at the Ministry Of Health in Colombo to day Deputy Director Of the Epidemeology Unit Dr.Sudath Pieris said That quarantined 187 Passengers who were aboard in the Flight that carried Four Swine Flu Patients to Colombo will able go out side their homes after this Sunday."They arrived to the Katunayaka Air Port on last Sunday and if they do not developed the Swine Flu Symptoms within a Week then they will not getting the Disease afterwards" he stressed.Their Seven Day Quarantine Period due to end this Sunday.

Addressing the Briefing Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said that Sri Lankan Authorities are taken every possible meassure to stop the spreading of Swine Flu in Sri Lanka."Already Twenty Government Hospitals including of IDH Fever Hospital prepared as an alert for treating the Swine Flu Patients if there is an Epidemic Situation " he added.
