Additional Transport Facilities To Facilitate Outstation Residents During Election Period

The Sri Lanka Transport Commission Board has decided  to provide additional transport services  island wide for outstation residents who are travelling from Colombo to their native areas  from 14th to 18th of August to  cast their votes at the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.

This additional transport facilities will be provided from Colombo and Colombo Suburb areas to outstation areas according to the Transport Commission Board.

Colombo Magistrate Court Has Issued A Notice For Central Bank Governor And His Son In Law To Appear Before The Court

The Colombo Magistrate Court has today(12) issued a notice for the Governor of Central Bank Arjun Mahendran and his son in law Arjun Aloysius to be appeared before the court on 30th of October this year over a case filed against them on the controversial Treasury Bond Issue.

Through the petition which was filed by the United Peoples Freedom Alliance's(UPFA) Provincial Councilor Renuka Perera it is alleged that due to the controversial Treasury Bond Issue government has lost Rs.1393 million.

The opposition UPFA has continuously accusing  that the Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe and Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake are also responsible for this incident and both of them are protecting the accused  Central Bank Governor and his son in law by not taking any action against them.

Politicians Are Illegally Using 300 State Owned Vehicles For Election Campaign-Transparency International

Some  Politicians who are contesting for the  forthcoming Parliamentary Election are illegally using around 300 state owned vehicles for their election campaign activities according to the Transparency International Sri Lanka Organization.

The vehicles belonging to both Ministers and former Parliamentarians,Provincial Council Chairmans and heads of the government institutions are largely using  in current election campaign activities the Transparency International has said.

Although the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has requested the political parties to handover the state owned vehicles which are illegally using for election activities by 12 noon today(11) most of the politicians have failed to handover the vehicles before the deadline  it has been reported.

Due to this situation the Elections Commissioner has requested the Police to arrest these state owned vehicles which are illegally using
by politicians for election activities with immediate effect.

Sri Lanka To Export Bananas To China

The Sri Lankan Government has planned to sign an agreement with the  Chinese Government regarding exporting Bananas to China.The agreement s due to be signed shortly between the two governments according to  government sources.

Besides exporting Bananas,The government is planning to exchange information with China on Banana Cultivation Centers and storage places situated in the country.

29 Member South Asian Election Monitoring Network Team Due To Be Arrived The Country Tonight

A 29 member Election Monitoring Team representing South Asian Election Monitoring Network is scheduled to be arrived tonight as the last foreign  election monitoring team to be arrived the country to monitor the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.The former Elections Commissioner of Maldives Ibrahim Thahid will lead the Election Monitoring Team scheduled to be arrived the country tonight.


Another Election Monitoring Team representing the same network has arrived yesterday(10) and the Election Monitors representing the European Union and Commonwealth Union which arrived earlier have already began Election Monitoring activities here.


Imprisoned Former UPFA MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardene Was Remanded Further Until 25th Of August


The imprisoned former UPFA(United Peoples Freedom Alliance) MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardene who was in remand over the allegation of misusing vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat has been further remanded today(11) by the Colombo Fort Magistrate until 25th of August.

The Former UPFA MP was remanded further after he was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate this morning.Sajin Vaas Gunawardene was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division on 11th of May after a statement was recorded from him over the allegation leveled against him.

Police Arrested Two Suspects Regarding The Disapearence Of Cartoonist /Journalist Prageeth Eknaligida

The Police have arrested two suspects on Monday(10) in connection with the mysterious disappearance of  Cartoonist/Journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda who went missing few years ago without a trace.

The Police have arrested an ex LTTE Militant and a retired Army Officer regarding the disappearance of Mr,Ekanaligoda  according to the Police Department.

After the arrests were made the Police have filed a Habeascorpus Case at Homagama Magistrate Court regarding the Disappearance Of Eknaligoda .

The Foreign Debt Borrowings Of The Country Has Been Decreased During Last Six Months-Finance Ministry

The Foreign Debt borrowing of Sri Lanka has been decreased significantly under the new government during last few months while maintaining the Foreign Reserve of US Dollars 7.5 billion according to the Ministry Of Finance.

Sri Lanka has borrowed only Rs.43 billion foreign debt during first six months of this year ,just 22% out of the total commercial  loans government has set up to be taken this year due to the reforms introduced to public administration and financial management  according to the Ministry Of Finance.

However during the previous government the total Foreign Debt of the country has been increased by 8.8% at the end of last year(2014) from the year 2013 the Ministry has stated.

The Bail Application Of Imprisoned Former MP Sajin Vaas Was Rejected

The Bail Application produced on behalf of the imprisoned former MP of United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Sajin Vaas Gunawardene was rejected by Colombo High Court Judge Padmini Ranawake Gunathilake today(10).


The Former MP Sajin Vaas was arrested and remanded by Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division(FCID) on 11th of May over an allegation leveled against him for misusing several vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat during the previous government.Earlier He has been remanded until tomorrow(11) by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court.

President To Dissolve Presidential Security Division With Immediate Effect

President Maithripala Sirisene has decided to dissolve the Presidential Security Division (PSD) with immediate effect  and appoint Police Special Task Force to handle  President's Security.

Under this the Presidential Security Division will be dissolved step by step and the process will be completed withing two weeks time according to Police Media Division.

After getting dissolved all  the 5000 Police Officer attach to the Presidential Security will be recruited to Police Stations throughout the island the Division has said.The head of the President's Security Deputy Inspector General Of Police S.M Wikaramsinghe is due to be appointed to another higher post.

Elections Department To Give Extra Date For Postal Voters Who Missed Casting Their Votes

The Elections Department has decided to give  this Tuesday(11) as the extra day for those Postal Voters who missed Postal voting for the forthcoming election on given dates.

The Police Officers and State School Teachers were allowed to cast their Postal Votes on 03rd of August while the rest of the Postal Vote Applicants were given 05th and 06th of August to cast their votes.

A total of 566,823 Voters were eligible to cast their Postal Votes at the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.

Police Department To Filed Cases Against Motorists Who Are Violating Speed Limits In 72 Main Roads

The Police Department has today(08) said that the cases will be filed against Motorists who are violating the speed limits in 72 main roads in the country with speed limit signs with effect from next Tuesday(11).

Legal Action has not taken against the motorists who violated the speed limits in those main roads due to the Supreme Court's decision on not allowing such cases to be filed until the speed limit signs are properly placed on these roads,

As the speed limit signs have  properly placed in those 72 main roads now the Police Department has decided to file cases against motorists who are violating the speed limits with effect from  next Tuesday.

Air Port Police Have Arrested A Person With 38 Expensive Foreign Liquor Bottles Without Permit

The Air Port Police have today (08) arrested a man in possession  of  38 expensive Liquor Bottles without A permit at the Katunayake International Air Port .

The Air Port Police have found the expensive liquor bottles stored inside a  vehicle belonging to the suspect which was parked at the Air Port premises.

The arrested suspect was handed over to the Air Port Customs and Air Police are
 conducting further investigations on the incident.

Human Rights Commission To Brief Higher Rank Police Officers On Forthcoming Election

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka is organizing  a programme for Higher Rank Police officers in Kurunagala and Puttalam Districts(In North Western Province) regarding the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.

The Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapariya is scheduled to be taking part in the programme which is due to be held at Chilaw Divisional Secretariat soon.
