Sri Lankan Government Doctors Union Threaten To Strike Over Delaying Of New Internship Appointments

Sri Lankan Government Doctors Union is threatening to launch a strike action if the Health Ministry fails to appoint the Batch of Newly passed out Medical Graduates as Interns to the Government Hospitals before 07th of July.According to the Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) around 750 Medical Graduates are awaiting for Internship Appointments for more then a year and the Government Hospitals needed these Doctors as the Current Batch of Interns due to end their training on 06th of July.

So if the Health Authorities are not appointing these Medical Graduates as Interns then the Patient Care facilities in Government Hospitals will be disrupted after 07 th GMOA Spokesman said.Around 738 Interns currently serving at the Government Hospitals are due to finish their Training on the 06th of July.Higher officials of the Health Ministry are not available to comment on the issue,however the Health Ministry sources said that the Health Minister's failiure to give a date for the Internship Appointment Ceremony causes the dealy of appointing new interns.

The Prices Of Two Brands Of Gas Cylinders Are Revised

The Prices of the Two Brands of Gas Cylinders use in Sri Lanka are revised with the effect from Midnight today as the 12.5 KG Laugfs Gas Cylinder will increased by Rs.100 and Shell Gas Cylinder will reduced by Rs.53 according to the Consumer Affairs Authority .

Under the new Price Revision the price of the 12.5 KG of Laugfs Gas Cylinder will be Rs 1407 and the Shell Gas Cylinder Rs.1447.

Fifteenth Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patient Reported

Fifteenth Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patient was reported today Health Sources said.The Patient who returned from United States Of America is admitted to The Angoda Fever Hospital in the Colombo Suburbs this morning and found as a Positive through a Blood Test.

Around Seven Swine Flu Patients are currently receiving treatment at the Hospital and another Suspected Patient was admitted to the Hospital today.

Two NDF Parliamantarians To Be Appointed As Ministers

Two Parliamentarians of the National Democratic Front(NDF) which supported the Government are due to Given Ministerial Portfolios soon Government Sources said.The two Parliamentarians Nandana Gunathilaka and Piyasiri Wijenayaka are two MP'S to be appointed as Ministers.
MP Wijenayaka was remanded recently for killing a supporter of their Former Party JVP.

Neuro CT Scan Machine Of The Colombo National Hospital Is Not Functioning

CT Scan Machine of the Colombo National Hospital's Neuro Surgical Unit is out of order since last Week and Neuro Patients are facing numerous hardships due to this situation Hospital Sources said today.The CT Scan Tests of the Neuro Patients who are admitted to the National Hospital are performing through the Private Hospitals.

This CT Scan Machine was out of order few months ago too and it repaired only two months ago.

Sri Lankan Swine Flu Taly Increased To Fourteen

The tally of Swine Influenza(H1N1 Virus) Patients of Sri Lanka increased to 14 as another Sri Lankan returned from Australia today became a positive for the Disease.The new patient who returned to the island yesterday is too admitted to the Angoda Fever Hospital in the Colombo Suburbs for treatment.

Now altogether 9 Swine Flu Patients are getting treatment for the Disease at the Hospital.Out of the 14 Swine Flu Patients reported from the Country 9 of them returned from Australia and there are Two from USA,Two Filipinoes and one from United Kingdom.There are another suspected Swine Flu Patients at the Hospital waiting for their test results.

Meanwhile the Secretary of Health Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage said that as all Swine Flu Patients reported from here are returned from Abroad still there is no threat of spreading the Disease internaly as all the patients reported quarantine from others during the treatment.

Sri Lankan Health Ministry To Import Bacteria To Destroy The Dengue Mosquitoes

Sri Lankan Ministry Of Health decided to Import BTI Bacteria(Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis)from Cuba to destroy Dengue Mosquito larvae as the spreading of Dengue in the country is increasing day by day.

According to the Press Release issued by the Ministry Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva already hol d discussions regarding this with the Cuban Ambassedor in Colombo and waiting for the approval of the Cuban Government of importing the Bacteria.

However The Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council already began to use BTI Bacteria to the Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places within the Colombo City Limits.According to the Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam the Chief Medical Officer Of Health in Colombo their Department is using this Bacteria imported from America once a weak for the breeding places and PHI's are inspecting the Progress weakly.This Method is succesfully adapted by Cuba to curb the Dengue Menace he stressed.
