Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakshe To Appear Before Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division Tomorrow(01)

The former first lady Shiranthi Rajapakshe is due to be appeared before the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division tomorrow morning at 9.30 a.m to give a statement regarding the spending of money received by the Carlton Siri Liya Saviya Programme chaired by her.

The Police Financial Crimes Division has requested the Former First Lady who is the wife of former president mahinda rajapakshe to appear before the division tomorrow.

The media coordinating officer of the  Mrs.Rajapakshe,  Anoma Weliwite has stated that former first lady has not involved in politics and she has done charity work involved in children.she has received foreign funds for her charity work which have been spent in transparent manner  the media coordinating officer has further said.

Meanwhile a protest campaign organized by a group of youth to oppose the former first lady's visit to financial crimes investigations division tomorrow was held today(31) at hambanthota
district.

Six OIC'S Have Been Transferred With Immediate Effect

The Police Department has transferred Six OIC'S with immediate effect.According to the Police Media Spokesman Police Superintendent Ruwan Gunasekere OIC'S of Maligawatte,Habaraduwa,Baduraliya,Bakamuna Police Stations and OIC'S of Police Statistics Division and Polannaruwa Intelligence Unit have been transferred due to service requirements.

They have been replaced by six OIC'S of different police stations the Police Media Spokesman has said.

Massage Centers Cannot Use The Name Ayurveda--All Ceylon Ayurvedic Doctors Association

As the registered government Ayurveda Doctors here 
are not recommending massage therapy for their patients,it will be illegal if massage centers are using the name Ayurveda according to the All Ceylon Aurveda Doctors Association.

No Ayurvedic doctor is recommending their patients on massage therapy as it is not a part of Ayurveda the association has said.

The Ayurvedic Doctors Association has informed this situation to the Minister of Health and Indigenous Dr.Rajitha Senaratne and requested him to close down   these illegal Massage Centers .

Police Inspector Was Arrested For Assaulting A Woman

A Police Inspector attach to the Madirigiriya(North Central Province) Police Station has  been arrested over an assaulting of  a woman regarding a land dispute.

The Police Inspector was arrested following a complaint made by the assaulted woman.The arrested police inspector have released on bail after he was produced before the  Court. The Madirigiriya Police is conducting further investigations on the incident.

United Arab Emirates Has Donated 15 Metric Tonnes Of Dates To Sri Lanka

The government of United Arab Emirates has donated 15 metric tonnes of Dates to Sri Lanka for use during forthcoming Ramazan Season.The Ambassador Of United Arab Emirates in Sri Lanka Abdul Hameed Al Mulla had  handed over the stock of dates to the Sri Lankan Minister Of Muslim Religious Affairs and Postal Services M.H.A Haleem yesterday(29).

The United Arab Emirates Ambassador has promised the Minister that his government will donate more Dates  next year .

Three French Nationals With Fake Passports Have Arrested

Three French Nationals who were attempted to fly to England through Fake Passports have been arrested at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Air Port yesterday(28) by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) .

The three male french nationals who are in the ages of 24,27 and 50 were arrested and the CID has launched an investigation on the incident. 

Five Opposition MP'S Have Given Ministerial Portfolios Of The Government

Five MP's of the main opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) have given Ministerial Posts today(29) by the President Maithripala Sirisene.Out of the five new ministers one received a Cabinet Portfolio.Three received State Ministerial Portfolios and one received deputy ministerial portfolio.

Opposition MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardne has received the Cabinet Ministerial Portfolio of Parliamentary Affairs while MP'S Pandu Bandaranaike,Ranjith Siyamabalapitiya , and Hemal Gunasekere have received the state ministerial portfolios of state minister of public administration and democratic  governance,State Minister of Environment and State Minister of Housing and Samurdhi respectively.MP Chandrasiri Suriyaarachchi has given the post Deputy Minister  of Lands.

MP Tiran Alles Was Questioned Over Cheating Rs.Millions From Tsunami Housing Funds

The Colombo Special Investigations Division had questioned MP Tiran Alles today (28)over the allegation leveled against him on cheating Rs.millions from Tsunami Housing funds in 2004 .MP Alles was questioned for two and half hours it has been reported.

He was earlier taken a interim order from the Supreme Court  to prevent Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division from arresting  him over the allegation.

Former Trade Minister Johnston Fernando Was Released On Bail

The imprisoned former Trade Minister Johnston Fernando who was arrested and remanded over the allegation leveled against him on involved in financial fraud occurred at Sathosa Limited was released  on bail today(28) by the Kurunagala High Court.
He was released on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 and three personal bails of Rs.2.5 million each.When the former minister was produced before the Kurunagala High Court today the Attorney General has not raised any objection to his bail appeal it has been reported.

The former Minister was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division.

Kotakethane Case- A Group Of People Blocked Embilipitya-Ratnapura Main Road And Protested Against Releasing Three Murder Suspects

The Police have used Water Canons to disperse thousands of protesters who were blocked the Embilipitiya-Ratnapura Main Road at Kahawatte Town by opposing the Colombo High Court's rule of acquitting the three suspects of the mother-daughter murder case in Kotakethana.

A group of residents in Kotakethana area  have involved in the said  protest campaign  in Kotakethane Town around 2 hours this evening causing heavy traffic in the road according to the Police.

Colombo High Court Has Released Three Suspects Accused For Murdering Of Mother And Daughter in Kotakethana

The Colombo High Court has today(28) acquitted three suspects accused of the murdering of Mother and Daughter in 2012 at Kotakethana in Kahawatta Area by stating that  the evidence available against  three suspects was not sufficient to charged them for the  murders.

The three suspects Lokugam Hewage Ruchira,Sisira Priyantha Kumara and Namal Chaminda De Silva are accused of murder and burning of a Mother Liyanaarachchige Premawathi(63) and her daughter Hewagamage Pushpakumari(33) on 12th of June in 2012 at Kotakethana in Ratnapura District.

Seven Deaths Due To The Influenza-A

Around 143 persons suffering from Influenza-A Viral Fever have been reported from the island during last five months and there were 7 deaths due to the disease according to  Epidemiology Unit.


The director of the Epidemiology Unit Dr.Paba Palihawadene has said that the  People should not get fear on the disease as it's a normal seasonal flue .Fever ,Sour Throat,Body Pain,Muscle Pain ,Running Nose are the main symptoms of this disease and the patients with such symptoms should get a proper medical treatment dr.Palihawadene has stressed.



Cabinet Approved The 20th Amendment Draft Bill

The Cabinet has today(27) approved the 20th Amendment to the Constitution regarding the changing of country's electoral system.The cabinet has approved the draft bill of 20th amendment during today's cabinet meeting while allowing room to  make  further changes it has been reported.

After President Maithripala Sirisene has presented the draft bill to the cabinet the leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Minister Rauf Hakeem has raised objection by stating the amendment will be unfair for the minor parties.However the President has assured that the issues will be resolved in the time being.

The 20th Amendment draft bill now scheduled to be presented to the parliament for approval.

The government has earlier stated that after approving of 20th amendment the parliament will dissolve with immediate effect.

Imprisoned MP Basil Rajapakshe And Three Of His Associates Were Further Remanded

The imprisoned former Economic Development Minister MP Basil Rajapakshe and three of his associates who were arrested on 22nd of April over the allegation leveled against them on misusing state funds belonging to the Divi Naguma Programme were further remanded until 10th of June by the Kaduwela Magistrate Court today(27).

The MP Rajapaskhe and three of his associates including the former secretary of
Economic Development Ministry Dr.Nihal Jayathilake were produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate Court this morning.

Attorney General Ordered Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division Not To Arrest MP Tiran Alles Now

The Attorney General has today(27) ordered the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division not to arrest MP Tiran Alles over the alleged financial misappropriation occurred at the reconstruction and development agency(RADA) until his petition filed at Supreme Court  is heard again on 11th of June,However attorney general had instructed the crimes investigations division to continue investigations on the involvement of MP Alles in the financial misappropriation  case.

MP Tiran Alles had filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court recently  by requesting to issue an order to police financial crimes investigations division preventing his arrest  over the allegations.

A Three Member Investigations Committee Appointed To Investigate Fraudulent Activities Of Previous Cricket Administration

The Minister Of Tourism And Sports Navin Dissanayake has appointed a three member committee to investigate on the fraudulent activities said to be committed  by the previous executive committee members of the Sri Lankan Cricket Interim Committee.

The Committee comprising of  Ravi Algama,Jaliya Bodhinagoda and Waruna Mallawaarachchi had met for the fist time today(26) at the Sri Lankan Cricket Headquarters.

The investigations committee is due to be concluded their investigations and hand over the inquiry report to the Tourism And Sports Minister soon  according to the Tourism And Sports Ministry.

Workers Who Have Completed Ten Years In Service Will Be Able To Collect 30% of Their EPF Money From Tomorrow-Labour Minister

All  workers who have  completed ten years in service will be able to take 30% of their Employees Provident Fund(EPF) Money with effect from tomorrow(27) according to the Ministry Of Lab our.Those workers who are having not less then Rs.300,000 in their EPF will be eligible for this concession the Ministry  has said.

The eligible workers can take 30% of their EPF Money for housing construction work and settling hospital bills.The applications for the concession will be issued from 10 a.m tomorrow(27) through the Labour Ministry according to the Minister Of Labour S.B Nawinne.

Earlier this concession of taking 30% of the EPF Money has been granted only to those who are over 55 years and to married women only.

President Sirisene's Jaffna Tour- President Has Pledged To Do Justice For The Case Of Gang Rape Victim School Girl

President Sirisene's Meething With the School Girl's Mother
President Maithripala Sirisene who have visited Jaffna this morning had pledged that all the accused suspects of  Gang Raping and killing of  a 18 year old School Girl of  Punguduthiv area in Kayets(Northern Province) will be severely punished trough a Special Court if need arise.

President has also met the mother of the deceased school girl and discussed on the situation.

The kidnapping,Gang Raping and killing of a 18 year old School Girl has triggered violence in Jaffna as a section of people gathered last Wednesday in front of the Jaffna Court Complex have stoned the court building , damaged public properties as well as assaulted the police officers when the nine suspects of the gang rape case have brought to the court.

Around 130 persons were arrested and remanded over engaged in an unlawful way of protests in front of the Jaffna Court Complex.

All the lawyers in Jaffna have launched a   Strike by opposing the attack on Jaffna Court Complex.

Secretary Of Bodu Bala Sena Ven.Galagoda Atte Thero Was Arrested And Later Released On Bail

The General Secretary Of The Bodu Bala Sena Venerable Galagoda atte Gnanasara Thero was arrested this morning by the Cinnamon Gardens Police after  his arrival from abroad  on a court order and later released on bail.

The Bodu Bala Sena secretary was produced before the Colombo Magistrate Court after arrested and released on bail.He was arrested due to the failure of appear before the courts after unlawfully assembled in front of the Bribery Commission when the former defense secretary gotabaya rajapakshe was appeared before the commission to give a statement.

Obesity Amongst Females And Males In Sri Lanka Is On The Increase-Colombo Chief Medical Officer

The Obesity among st Sri Lankan Males and Females above 40 years old is on the increase according to the Chief Medical Officer In Colombo Dr.Ruwan Wijemuni.An island wide  survey carried out recently has shown that 60% of the females above 40 years old and 40% of the males belonging to the same age group in Sri Lanka are obsessed Dr.Wijemuni has stated.
The wrong food consuming pattern including consuming food with more Sugar,Starch and Oil Have caused this situation he has stressed.due to this non communicable diseases like High Blood Pressure,Heart Diseases,Cholesterol,Diabetes and Kidney Diseases are also on  increase in the country he has revealed.

To avoid future generations  getting  obesity The  Colombo Public Health Department is planning to conduct an awareness campaign on Preventing  Obesity  among st the School Children in  all government and private schools in Colombo City beginning this Wednesday Dr.Wijemuni has said.

The public health department is expecting to cover around 140 public and private  schools in the city through this programme.

EDITED- Three Killed Due To A Fire At A Bakery In Colombo -Another Three Critically Wounded

Three persons were killed due to a sudden fire broke out at the up stair of a bakery in Maradana (In Colombo City)this noon .The fire was broke out when a person tried to switched on the Gas Cooker to prepare Koththu Roti it has been reported.

Another three critically wounded persons were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.All the victims are workers attached to the Bakery Police have said. 

It takes one and half hours for the fire brigade to doused the fire according to Police.The exploding of the gas tank was the reason for this sudden fire Police have further said.

Meanwhile due to the heavy traffic prevailed in the area at the time  the arrival of ambulances and the fire brigade to the scene  has been delayed sources said.

Women And Child Abuse Has Escalated During Last Few Years- State Minister Of Child Affairs

The State  Minister Of Child Affairs Rosy Senanyake has said today(24) that during last few years the abuse of women and children in Sri Lanka has escalated by twenty folds.This has been revealed through an island wide survey she has stressed.

The State Minister has revealed this at a ceremony held in Awissawella today.

Police Have Used Water Cannons To Disperse A Group Of Protesters At Meethotamulle Protesting Against Garbage Dumping Site

The Police have used water canons to disperse a group of protesters who were protested in front of the Garbage Dumping Site in Meethotamulle area in Kolonnawa(Colombo District) by requesting an assurance from the authorities that disposal of garbage at Meethotamulle Garabage Dumping Site will be halted.

Around 700 metric tonnes of Garbage collected from the Colombo City is disposed daily at the 16 acre  Meethotamulle Garbage Dumping Site  and the bad o dour coming from  garbage mountain at the site  has caused severe health threats to the residents of the area especially the  children sources said.

The residents of the Meethotamulle Area have continuously protested in the past also calling for the removal of  garbage dumping site from the area but the authorities still failed to give a solution for the request.


An Indian National Who Tried To Smuggle Out Rs.9.7 Million Worth Stock Of Gems Detained At The Air Port

An Indian National was arrested by the Sri Lanka Customs this morning  at  Katunayake Bandaranaike International Air Port when he tried to smuggle out  Rs.9.7 million worth stock of gems from  Sri Lanka .

The suspect who was arrested at the departure lounge while awaiting to aboard  the flight to  Dubai had concealed a stock of Sri Lankan Gems weighing 200 Carrots concealed inside a Cigarette Pack .

According to the Customs Officers the detained stock of gems due to be forfeited and action will be taken against the suspect Indian National.

A Candlelight Vigil Ceremony To Be Held In Colombo Tomorrow(24) On Behalf Of The Gang Raped Girl

The Ministry Of Child Affairs and Child Protection Authority have organized a Candlelight Vigil Ceremony at the Independence Square in Colombo tomorrow(24) evening to express sympathy and solidarity towards the family members of  18 year old School Girl in Kayets who was gang raped   according to the State Minister of Child Affairs Mrs.Rosy Senanayake.

The ceremony is scheduled to be held at 5.30 p.m tomorrow.

Minister Rosy Senanayake has said that some people are attempting to take a political advantage from the incident.Such gang rapes should be stopped and those who are responsible for the act should be severely punished to prevent such incidents happens  in future she has further said.

The Minister has appealed the public to come to Independence Square tomorrow evening with a candle to express the sympathy and solidarity towards the family members of the said girl.

Jaffna Magistrate Court Has Issued A Stay Order Banning All Forms Of Protests In Jaffna Town

The Jaffna Magistrate Court has issued a stay order today(23) banning all forms of protests in Jaffna Town .The court has also instructed the Police to arrest any individual who violates this stay order.

According to the Police the Jaffna Magistrate Court has issued the stay order to Northern Provincial Councilor Ananthi Sasidaren,Chairman of the Janata balaya Organization T.Kumaravelu and another individual of an Organization prohibiting them form organizing  and hold any protest campaign in Jaffna Town and breaking the peace .

The Jaffna Magistrate Court has remanded around 130 protesters few days ago for unlawful protests conducted near the Jaffna Magistrate Court Complex ,Damaging Public Properties and assaulting  of Police Officers .

The remanded protesters were launched protests when the nine suspects of the gang raping incident of a 18 year old School Girl in Kayets Area have been brought to the court .

A Sudden Fire Had Destroyed Matara To Colombo Private Bus Completely-Passengers Were Exit Through The Rear Door

A Private Passenger Bus travelling from Matara to Colombo had suddenly  caught fire at Samudra Road in Galle this morning and the bus was completely destroyed due to this according to the Police.

Around 60 passengers who were aboard at the time when bus was caught on fire have managed to exit  through the rear door of the bus.No casualties have been  reported due to the incident and the fire has been reported as erupted  in  front side of the bus.

The Galle Municipal Council Fire Brigade and the Navy Fire Brigade have rushed
to the scene and managed to doused the fire.

The Galle Police have conducting an investigation on the incident.

Four Member Committee Appointed To Investigate In To The Bribery And Corruption In Ports Authority

A four member committee headed by President's Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetti has been appointed today(22) to investigate in to the allegations of  bribery and corruption occurred at Sri Lanka Ports Authority during the previous government the Government Information Department Has announced.

Five Higher Police Officials In Jaffna And Kayets Have Been Transferred With Immediate Effect

The Inspector General Of Police(IGP)had transferred Five  Higher officials attach to the Police Stations in Jaffna and Kytes with immediate effect according to the Police Department Sources.

Accordingly the ASP,OIC and SSP of Jaffna Police Division ,HQI Of Kayets Police Station  and HQI Of Jaffna Police Station have been transferred and they have replaced with new appointees the sources said.

These higher officers have been transferred on service requirements according to the Police Department.

Police Officers in Jaffna and Kayets have became under heavy criticism of the public due to their poor handling on the situation   following the gang rape of a 18 year old school girl in Kayets .

Around 903 Foreign Nationals Arrived Sri Lanka Were Arrested For Violating Visa Requirements

Around 903 Foreign Nationals who arrived Sri Lanka last year (2014) on tourist visa were arrested  for violating visa requirements the Minister of Public Order and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunge has informed the Parliament today(22).

The said tourists have been engaged in employment,religious propaganda activities etc.by arrived here on tourist visa the Minister has said.

These foreign nationals were arrived here from Countries belonging to South Asia,Europe and America according to the Minister Amaratunge.The minister has informed these details to the Parliament in response to a question raised by the UNP MP Buudhika Pathirane.
