President Made New Military Appointments

President Mahinda Rajapaksha today appointed Army Commander Lt.General Sarath Fonseka who guided the Military Victory over LTTE as the New Chief Of Defense Staff,and other Military Chiefs involved in Battle field Major General Jagath Jayasooriya as the New Army Commander,Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda as an National Security Advisor to the President and Admiral Thisera Samarasinha as the New Navy Commander.

The Appointment of New Chief Of Defense Staff was made under the powers vested to the President under the Chief Of Defense Staff Act No.35 of 2009.All these Appointments will come to effect from 15th of July.All the New Appointees were handover their Appointments today at the President'S House in Colombo.

Meanwhile the Present Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army and Competent Authority for the Internaly Displaced Persons Major General G.A Chandrasiri appointed as the New Governor of the North Central Province and the Present Governor Mr.Dixon Dala is appointed as the Sri Lankan High Commissioner In Maldives with effect from today.

Sri Lankan Woman Boxer Nilmini Jayasinha won the Gold Medal in under 51 KG Catagory of the World W omen's Invitational Boxing Championships workout in Russia yesterday.In final she beets her Canadian counterpart.

Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patients Tally Increased To Thirty

Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patients tally increased to 30 as another Three Swine Flu patients who were returned from Australia were identified today.With these three patients Nine Swine Flu Patients are currently getting treatment at the Angoda Fever Hospital.

Due to the increasing number of Swine Flu deaths reported from Australia special attention is paying towards the people who are returning from there to the Island Director of the Angoda Fever Hospital Dr.Anura Senanayaka said.

UN To Stood Their Statements On Casualties During Ealam War

The United Nations Office in Colombo says they will stood their statements on Civilian casualties occurred during war against LTTE despite the Five Tamil Doctors who were charged on spreading false Information on casualties during war were said that they were doing that due to the amount of pressure of LTTE.

These Five Doctors who worked on Hospitals located in No War Zone during the Last stages of war are now under Police Arrest.During a Press Briefing held last Wednesday they stressed that LTTE forced them to exaggerating the number of Civilian Casualties and said the number of casualties reported were around 300 and not in thousands as they earlier predicted.

Five Tamil Docs Charged For Spreading False Information On War Declared They Were Under LTTE Preasure

Five Tamil Doctors who were charged by the Sri Lankan Government with providing false information to the International and Local Media on Civilian Casualties during the Fighting against LTTE says they done so due to the Pressure of the LTTE.
Addressing a Press Briefing in Colombo yesterday the five doctors,Satyamoorthy,Varatharaja,Illanchelliyan,,Sivapalan and shanmugaraja told that the civilian casualties during the Confrontation between Government Forces and LTTE in the last stage stands at around 300 and not in thousands as foreign media reported.Out of these Doctors Sivapalan and Shanmugaja are LTTE Medical Corps.

These Five Doctors were captured by the Sri Lankan Army in last may while they were trying to crossing over to the Government held Area from the then No War Zone soon after the War against LTTE Finishes.Since then they are under Police Arrest and the CID questioning them on their links with the LTTE.

Large Stock Of Expired Pethidine Injection Vials Still In The MSD Stores

Around 360,000 vials of expired Pethidine Injections are still in the Stores of Medical Supplies Division without destroying it Health Ministry Sources said.These Injection Vials were expired on January 31 this year and the whole stock is removed from the Government Hospitals in early February.

Thereafter the Health Ministry Officials said that the stock will be destroyed but still they didn't take any steps to do that according to the Officials.When contacted the Director General Of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis said that these Vials of Pethidine are not destroyed due to the ongoing Investigation by the Auditor General in this regard.

However Doctors said the Auditor General's inquiry on this matter should be over now as it started 3 months back.Pethidine is known as a powerful Pain killer prescribed for serious wounds and for the Pregnant Mothers.It is widely use Pain Killer in Sri Lanka.

Government Docs Called Off Their Token Strike

The Token One Day strike launched by the Government Hospital Doctors was called off this evening after President Mahinda Rajapaksha intervened and Solve the Doctors demand of re arranging the Post Internship Appointment List.The Strike which launched on 7 a.m this morning was called off around 2 in the Evening.

President Rajapaksha arranged an emergancy meeting with the officials of Government Medical Association(GMOA) and Helath Ministry this morning to look into Doctors demand.During the discussion President agreed to re arrenging the Post Interns List within a weak's time and ordered the Acting Health Secretary Dr.Nihal Jayathilake to presented him the re arranged list by this friday.This Meating last two hours and the result is encouraging according to the GMOA.

Meanwhile due to this morning's strike the OPD Clinics,Routine Surgeries and Treatment facilities are not performed amd large number of patients were faced hardships due to this.

Sri Lankan Cricket Team Having A Tough Time Witth Pakistani Counterparts

Sri Lanka were all out for 217 runs to day in the Third day of the First Test Match played against Pakistan at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium in Galle Sri Lanka.They are leading only 167 Runs as all out in the First Innings to 247 Runs.Pakistan scored 342 Runs all out in their First Innings.

Pakistan is chasing 167 Runs to win the Match with two days to spare was 71 Runs for 2 Wickets at the close of the play today.They further need 97 Runs to win the Match.

Government Doctors To Launch An Islandwide Token Strike Tomorrow

Sri Lankan Government Doctors are to launch an Islandwide one day token strike tomorrow demanding the cancellation of the Post Internship Appointment list prepared by the Health Ministry.According to the Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) there are irregularities happened when preparing this list and the list is politically influenced one.

The Assistant Secretary of the GMOA Dr.Upul Gunasekara said his Union appealed to Health Secretary last weak to cancel this Post Intern List but failed to getting a good response from him.Therefore there is no other option than launching a Doctors strike on this matter he stressed.

All Government Doctors except the Doctors attached to the Accident Service of the Colombo National Hospital.Lady Ridgway Children's Hospital,Castle Street Maternity,De Soyza Maternity and Cancer Hospital in Colombo will join tomorrow's strike he urged.The Doctors of these Hospitals are not join the Strike on Humanitarian Grounds he further added.

According to the GMOA Doctors will launch the Strike at 7 a.m tomorrow morning till 7 a.m on Wednesday morning.Emergency Services will functioning as usual during the Strike.

The Post internship List which is subjected to the Doctors Strike is prepared for the 232 Doctors who completed their Internship training in 04th of February this year.These Doctors are recruited to the IDP Camps in the North since last March.

A Viral Flu Similar To Dengue Is Spreading In The Western Province

Epidemiologists says that a Viral Flu which has similar Symptoms like in Dengue Fever is spreading throughout the Western Province these days.Around 50 Flu Patients suffering from this Flu were admitted to the Angoda Fever Hospital for Treatment.

A high fever lasted for few days,Headache and Body Pain are the main symptoms of this Flu and Patients may face difficulties like in Dengue due to the Body Pain doctors said.

Yaldevi Train Caught Fire

Sri Lankan Inter City Train Yal Devi which resumed it's operations to Northern Sri Lanka on last Month after absence of two decades caught a fire this morning while on their way to the North.The Fire damaged two Compartments of the Train and no one on the Board getting injuries according to the Railway Authorities.

The Fire was brought under control shortly after wards.The cause of the fire is not yet revealed.Yal Devi Train was not operating to the Northern Sri Lanka on last two decades due to the War prevailed there.

First Post War Military Casualty Of Sri Lanka Reported

One Sri Lankan Soldier was shot dead and two others were injured yesterday During a shootout with a LTTE Terrorist at the Eastern District of Batticloe.LTTE Terrorist was moving from a Boat to Kokkadicholai to Kirankulam in the Eastern Province through Batticloe Lagoon when the Soldiers ambushed him.

This is the first time that a Soldier was killed in Sri Lanka since the Government Forces had defeated LTTE Terrorism from the Island on last May.

LTTE Terrorist grabbed the Gun from the Soldier when they ambushed him and started shooting killing a Soldier and injuring another two. Terrorist too was got injured when the Army opened fire at him and taken him to custody afterwards.LTTE Cadre was identified as Neelarathnam Mohan.

A Confusion risen when the Sri Lankan Pace Bowler Chaminda Vaas and the Head Of the Cricket Selectors Asantha De Mel made different comments on the retirement of Vaas from the Test Cricket.Asantha De Mel said yesterday that theVaas told him on retiring of Test Cricket to concentrate more on One Day Cricket Matches.
Vaas the most experienced Pace Bowler in the Sri Lankan Team today, has denied that he was made any comment to the Mel regarding retiring from Test Cricket.Vaas was dropped by the Selectors for the ongoing Test Match Series here with Pakistan and also out looked during the Twnty-Twenty World Cup Tournment which ended recently.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi Giving Up The Concept Of An Ealam State In Sri Lanka

The Chief Minister of the Tamil Nadu M.Karunanidhi said today that establishing an Ealam State in Sri Lanka is not realistic Possibility anymore.He also urged the Tamils in Sri Lanka to work towards achieving Equal Status,Language,Equal Rights which are timely needs of them instead of fighting for an Ealam State.

He also appealed from the Political Parties of Tamil Nadu not to Criticize Sinhalese and caused unnecessary problems to the Tamil Community in the Island.

LTTE Backed TNA MP's To Support Government's Development programmes

Tamil National Alliance(TNA) who are charged as supporting the LTTE during Government's war against them was attending the Development and Reconciliation Committee Meeting for the first time when the Committee met today.Eight TNA members of the Parliament attended the Meeting headed by President Mahinda Rajapaksha.

The Committee was established few days ago and President urged all the political parties to cooperate to find a solution to the Ethnic Problem accepted by all the people.Development and Reconciliation Committee due to meet once a month

Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patients Tally is increased to 20 today as another Two patients returned to the Country from Australia are proved positive to the flu.These patients age 8 and 16 got admitted t the Angoda Fever Hospital yesterday and today after they developed Swine Flu Symptoms.

Now there are Six Swine Flu Patients getting treatment at the Hospital.

232 Docs Attached To IDP Camps To Stop Their Services Tomorrow

Around 232 Post Intern Doctors who are recruited to the IDP Camps in the Northern Sri Lanka decided to walk a way from their services tomorrow as a protest of Temporarily Suspending their Post Interns List.Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage Temporarily Suspended the List and till the Authorities taking steps to implementing it the Action will continue according to these Post Interns.

These Doctors are attached to the IDP Camps in the IDP Camps in Vavuniya,Settikulam and Manick Farm Areas since last March after they completed their Internship Training on 04th of February.Although walk away from Normal Services Emergancies will continue as usual they stressed.

Meanwhile when contacted the Deputy Director General (Medical Services 2) Dr.Wimal Jayantha says that the Post Interns List is not suspended but there are certain objections presnted by several Parties regarding this list.

Confusion Between The Government And It;s Allies Over The Implementing Of 13th Amendment

A Party in the Ruling Coalition Jathika Hela Urumaya(National Heritage Party) threaten to pull out from the Government if they are going to implement the muched talk about 13th Amendment of the Sri Lankan Constitution giving wide powers to the Provincial Councils including the Powers of Police and Land.

According to the Hela Urumaya party who are in the view that LTTE can defeeted Militarily and supported President Mahinda Rajapaksha to achieved it says they are opposing the Implementation of the proposed Amendment as it will affect the Soveriegnity of the Island Nation.

Even the Leftist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna(JVP) who also supported the Government towards defeeting LTTE Militarily are on the same view.Posters stating not to Implement the 13th Amendment fully for India's Favour pasted by the JVP are seen throughout Colombo City today.

Meanwhile it has been reported that President Mahinda Rajapaksha made angry remarks over the claims of the Jathika hela Urumaya saying that the Government will go ahead with the Implementation of the Amendment.Sri Lankan Delegation who went to New Delhi too promised their Indian Counterparts over the Implementation of the proposed Amendment.

Australian Police Arrested The Chief Suspect Of The Acid Thrown Case Over Sri Lankan Students

Australian Police today arrested the Chief Suspect of the Acid Throwing Case over two Sri Lankan Students reside in Sydney on last May.The Suspect a 25 year old name Amathepan Srikanthraja was arrested this morning after he made himself presence at the Maryylands Police as requested by the Police.

He will charged on attempting Murder and Ilegal Home Invasion according to the Australian Police.Around Five People including the arrested Suspect broken into the House in Sydney on the night of 17th of May,where the Two Sri Lankan Students Jayasri Watawala(22) and Chathurika Weerasinha(27) are reside in and thrown Acid on them.Due to this incident the two students suffering from Critical Burns on their faces and the ankle of one of the Studens was broken.Now they are recovering from the Injuries.


Australian Police launched an Investigation to Arrest other Suspects and also investigating on to find out whether the brawl between Sinhalese and Tamil Communities in Australia over the defeeting of LTTE led this incident.

Government Hospital Nurses To Wear Casual Cloths If Their Uniform Allowance Not Paid on Time

All Sri Lankan Government Hospital Nurses will giving up their uniforms and reported to Work from Casual Cloths if the Health Ministry fails to provide the Annual Uniform Allowance of Nurses by 10th of July The Government Nursing Officers Union said today.

According to the Union Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage promised them to paying the Allowance which was due to paid along with the Nurses Salary of March by 10th of July.If the Ministry fails to keep that Promise Nurses will wear Casual Cloths afterwards Union further stressed.There are more then 15,000 Nurses employed in the Government Hospitals.

Fuel Prices Are Increased From Midnight Today

Soon after the Revising of Gas Prices Government today announced a Fuel Prices hike effective from Midnight today.According to the New Price hike Petrol 90 Octane is increased by Rs.10 and 95 Octane by Rs.15.The Litre of Diesal is increased from Rs.3 and Kerosene and Furnace Oil are increased from Rs 1 .

Another Two Swine Flu Patients Identified-Total Number Of Patients Increased To Eighteen

Another two new Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patients were identified today raising the total number of Swine Flu Patients to Eighteen.The two Ten year old boys who were returned to the Island from Australia and Canada were admitted to the Angoda Fever Hospital yesterday after developing Swine Flu Symptoms according to the Director of the Hospital Dr.Anura Senanayaka.

According to the Blood Tests They were proved as suffering from the Swine Flu he said.Aso Another two Suspected Swine Flu Patients were admitted to the hospital today he stressed.
