A Lorry Driver Was Killed Due To A Misfired Gun Shot Of A Police Officer

 A driver of a Lorry was killed due to misfired gunshot of a Police officer at Narammala   area yesterday (18) according to the Police.The incident occurred whilst   chasing  after the Lorry  which was driven by the driver without considering police orders to stop the vehicle it has been revealed.


Whilst chasing after the vehicle a gun carried by one of the Police officers misfired when pointed towards the driver it has been reported.The Lorry drivet was killed due to the incident and as a result  angry residents of the area surrounded   the Narammala Police ,breaking the gates  and damaged the  Properties of the Police station   in a protest against the killing.

A tense situation  was occurred due to the incident and A special Police Team was sent to the Narammala Police to control the angry crowd  according to the Police Department.

Health Sector Strike Crippled The Hospital Services

 The 24 hour long islandwide strike launched by the 72 Health Trade Unions in the country since last morning  (16) crippled the patient care services of Government hospitals including Outdoor patient department Pharmacies and X ray department services 


The strike was launched by the 72 Health trade unions representing Professions Supplementary to the Medicine(PSM) and  para medical  service personal.The strike was launched demanding the Rs.35,000 DAT allowance given to doctors for other health personal .The strike has ended this Morning.

Meanwhile a section of Gocernment nurses had  launched a strike action today (17) demanding the same allowance .

Vegetable Prices Skyrocketed Yesterday(16)

 Vegetable Prices in the local Market skyrocketed yesterday (16) as a redult of short supply according to the sources.


Accordingly a Kilo Gramme of Carrots was sold  at Rs.2000 for the first time in recent history.A kilo gramme of Green chillees had risen to Rs.800 it has been revealed.Many economic  centers in the country received a short supply of upountry vegetables including carrots due to the crop destruction as a result of rainy weather.


  

A Tense Situation Occured At The Health Ministry Yesterday(16) Due To A Protest

 A tense situation occurred due to a protest held in front of the Ministry of Health last morning (16) against former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella Who is charged over his involvement in controversial Human immunoglobulin injection vials case  .


The protest was held with the presence of Civil society representatives, Mass Organization leaders and Social activists .Police had blocked the protest march of the Protesters scheduledto be held towards the Cinnnamon Gardens Police station.


Imprisoned Former DIG Released On Bail

The Former Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG) Lalith Jayasinghe who was remanded over interfering on the Police investigations  into the  shooting taken place in Kahawatte area in 2015 which caused a death of a person ,was released on bail by the  Ratanapura High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne yesterday(16).


Thr  Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe  was remsnded  over the charges of intetfering the Police  in view of  Preventing the arrest of  former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekare  who was the main susoect of the crime.
