Around 40 Wild Elephants In Villages At Hambanthota Were Chased Away To A Reserve

During a special mission carried out in Katuwewa and Port Village in Hambanthota District from last friday evening(13) to Saturday evening(14)  around 40 wild elephants entered in to villages have been chased away to newly created Wild Elephant Management Reserve in Hambanthota.


Various methods including the building of the Elephant fence were adapted to chased away the Wild Elephants to the reserve.

Wild Life officers belonging to Lunugamwehera,Bundala and Hambanthota areas along with the Deputy Minister of Wild Life Palitha Thewarapperuma have been participated for this mission.

Two Persons Have Been Arrested While Transporting Illicit Liquor "Kasippu"

Police have arrested two persons while transporting 200 Bottles of Illicit Liquor "Kasippu" in a Motor Car early this morning(15) at Biyagama-Paliyagoda area.

The suspects who are residents of Balangoda and Ranala areas were arrested while transporting 200 bottles which containing 150,000 mili liters of  Illicit Liquor "Kasippu" it has been revealed.

The two suspects are  involved in transporting "Kasippu" to many areas since long time according to reports.

They are due to be produced before the Hulftsdorf Magistrate Court .
