Health Minister To Submit A Cabinet Proposal On Using Newly Introduced "Wolbachia" Bacteria Here To Control The Spreading Of Dengue

Image result for wolbachia bacteria injected aedes aegyptiHealth Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne is due to submit a Cabinet Paper to the Cabinet to get an approval to use the "Wolbachia" Bacteria   discovered by a group of scientists in University Of Monash in Australia to prevent spreading of Dengue Virus   here soon.

Releasing of the  Dengue Mosquito "Aedis Aegypti "  injected with "Wolbachia" Bacteria  in to the environment in view of preventing the spreading of Dengue is currently underway successfully in countries like Australia,Vietnam,Brazil,Indonesia and Colombia according to the Ministry Of Health.

To implement a pilot project in selected areas of the island regarding the releasing of "Wolbachia" Bacteria injected "Aedis Aegypti  "Mosquitoes due to be done with the technical assistance of the Monash University,Australia and the Australian Government is providing Australian Dollars one million for this project the Ministry has stated.

A Person Was Arrested With A Stock Of An E Cigarettes For The First Time In Sri Lanka

Excise Department Officials have arrested a person with a stock of E -Cigarettes(Electronic Cigarettes) for the  first time in Sri Lanka at Paliyagoda area (Western Province) today(13).

The estimated value of the stock of E Cigarettes taken into custody in possession of the suspect is around Rs.800,000 it has been revealed.The arrest was made after investigating on an advertisement appeared in the internet .

An electronic cigarette or e-cigarette is a handheld electronic device that tries to create the feeling of tobacco smoking. It works by heating a liquid to generate an aerosol, commonly called a "vapor", that the user inhales. Using e-cigarettes is sometimes called vaping. The liquid in the e-cigarette, called e-liquid,is usually made of nicotinepropylene glycolglycerine, and flavorings.Not all e-liquids contain nicotine.

The health risks of e-cigarettes are uncertain, Their long-term health effects are not known. When used by non-smokers, e-cigarettes can lead to nicotine addiction, and there is concern that children could start smoking after using e-cigarettes.  Adverse effects include throat and mouth irritation, vomiting, nausea, and coughing have been reported.

A Motorcyclist Was Killed Due To A Road Accident

A 39 year old Motorcyclist was killed after the Motorcycle he was riding veering off the road after been slipped and colliding with two lamp posts at Thorana Junction in Pundaluoya on Thalawakale main road this morning(13).

The Critically injured Motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries after admission to the Kothmale Hospital.

The accident was occurred while the hig speed Motorcycle was traveling from Pundaluoya to Thalawakale area it has been revealed.

Pundaluoya Police are conducting an investigation over the incident.

Seven Former LTTE Members Have Been Sentenced A 56 Year Rigorous Imprisonemnt Over Killing Seven Persons In 2006

Image result for court orderAnuradhapura Special High Court Judge has today(13) sentenced seven former LTTE members a 56 year rigorous  imprisonment  over the killing of seven persons including a Doctor at Wilpattu National Wild Life Park by throwing  a Claymo Bomb  in to their Cab Vehicle on 27th of May 2006.

Accordingly the Special High Court Judge  Mahesh Weeraman had sentenced the accused who are residents of Chavakachcheriya,Mannar,Puttalam and Vavuniya who found guilty over the eight charges indicted against them by the Attorney General.
