President Issued A Special Gazette Declaring 82 Sri Lankan Freedom Fighters As Patriots

President Maithripala Sirisena has today(01) signed and issued a
special gazette notification declaring 82 Sri Lankan freedom fighters of the British Colonial era as Patriots .

President signed and issued the gazette notification at a function held today in the temple of the sacred tooth relic in Kandy.

Kappetipola adikaram (Adigar)who led the Uva-Wellassa freedom Struggle in 1818 against the British rulers and received death sentence from Rulers and Pilimathalawe Adikaram who was deleted to Mauritius island were among  mong those declared as Patriots through the gazette notification .

Members Of Presidential Commission Investigating The Bond Scam Issue Visited Central Bank

Members of the Presidential Commission Investigating the
controversial central bank bond scam issue had  today(01)visited the Central Bank and viewed the issuing of RS.24,000, million worth new bonds to the local market .

Accordingly three members of the commission visited the Central Bank around 8.30 a.m today and stayed there for three hours it has been revealed.

Representatives of the Attorney Generals Department were also present there To view the issuung of bonds.

Cabinet Granted CWE(Sathosa) To Import 20,000 Metric Tonnes Of Rice Monthly

The Cabinet has approved a proposal to allow state owned  Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE)-("SATHOSA") 20,000 Metric Tonnes of Rice per month to fill the shortage of Rice supply in the local market.

The Rice imported by CWE will be sold through Lanka Sathosa outlets and open market according to the Government.The aim of importing Rice through CWE is to keep a reserve stock in the government to utilize during  a Rice shortage and a price hike of Rice in the local market  it has been stated.

Government has recently allowed the  Private Sector to import Rice as well in this regard.


A Student Was Drowned And Disappeared While Bathing In Benthota Sea

One student was drowned and disappeared and two other students were rescued  after drowning while bathing in Benthota Sea area (Southern Province) this noon(01).

The two rescued students were admitted to the Balapitiya and Benthota hospitals for treatment.

The drowned student has been identified as a resident of Dharga town .Police along wit the fishermen in the area had launched a rescue operation in search of the disappeared student.

 

 

One Person Was Killed And Five Others Injured Due To A Road Accident

One person was killed and five others including the driver were injured and hospitalized after the Van they were traveling in fallen a precipice in Raththota in Riverstan area(Central Province) last night (28).

The injured were admitted to the Raththota Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Matale Hospital for further treatment.

The deceased has been identified as a 36 year old resident of Aparekka-Matara.
