Government Has Decided To Name 900 Sri Lankan Historical Heroes Who Led Uva-Wellassa Struggle As Patriots

uva wellassa heroes සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලGovernment has decided to name 900 Sri Lankan Heroes who led the Uva Wellassa struggle in 1818 against the British rule and labeled as traitors, as patriots .

President Maithripala Sirisean is due to sign a new gazette on 01st of March this year at the historical sacred tooth relic temple "Dalada Maligawa" in Kandy  cancelling the previous gazette issued by British Colonials in which  named the above mentioned Sri Lankan Patriots as traitors it has been reported. 

Earlier President has issued a gazette notification  naming  another 19 Sri Lankan Heroes who led the Uva Wellassa struggle including Keppetipola Adikaram as patriots. 

A Swedish Research Team Arrived At Sri Lanka To Carry Out A Joint Reseach On Spreading Cancer

A Swedish Research Team arrived at Sri Lanka to carry out  a joint research with Maharagama Apeksha Hospital on spreading Cancer in the country the Ministry Of Health has stated.

Members of the Swedish Research Team had met with Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne and discussed on the research work according to the Ministry.The Joint Research will be mainly focused on spreading of Leukemia it has been revealed.

A Body Of A Ten Year Old Child Recovered From A Water Tank

Police have recovered a body of a 10 year old boy floating in a water
tank belonging to a Cement Factory in Kankasanthuraipotti area(North) last morning (05).

The body was recovered following a complaint made by the parents of the deceased boy to the Police stating their child not returned home after playing with his friends last Saturday (04) evening.

Police are investigating on the incident.

Two Youths Drowned In Kosgoda And Ambalangoda Sea Coasts

Two youth had drowned in the sea coasts of Kosgoda and Ambalangoda
 (Southern Province)while bathing with their friends yesterday According to Police.

The deceased had been identified as 22 and 26 year old residents of Peradeniya (Central Province)and Negambo(Colombo) areas respectively.

Indian National Arrested Over Taking Photographs Of Temple Trees Has Been Released

The Indian national arrested by the
Colpetty Police yesterday (04) over taking photographs of prime minister Ranil Wikramasinghe's official residence "Temple Trees" has been released on bail today(05) by the Police.

The 36  year old Indian has been released on bail after recording a statement from the suspect on taking photos it has been revealed .

The suspect was informed the police that he has taken the photos of Temple Trees due to the beautiful surrounding in the area and the colorful decorations of the  69th Independance Day celebrations held in Galle Face green .

Drug Dealer Kudu Roshan Has Been Stabbed To Death near Wanathamulle Grounds

A narcotic drug dealer and a murder
suspect Chamara Sandaruwan allias Kudu Roshan has been stabbed to death today (05) by an unidentified individuals with a  sharp object near the wanathamulle grounds in Borella .

The 30 year old victim was stabbed from behind when he attempted   to enter the grounds to play football it has been revealed .

The victim was a suspect of the four murder s occured in October 2016.

Police are investigating on the incident .



Ministry Of Health To Import A New Cardiac Drug Which Helps To Recover From Heart Attacks

Ministry Of Health has decided to import a new western cardiac  drug
 given to cardiac patients to recover from heart attacks effectively within three hours after an attack occurred .

Minister of Health Dr.Rsjitha Senaratne has instructed the Health Ministry officials to take steps to import this effective drug which can be given to cardiac patients through hospitals and mobile clinics.

Represrntatives of College of Cardiologists  who met with the Health Minister recently informed him of this new drug according to the Ministry .

As this drug costs around RS.120,000 in the market ,negotiations will be held with relevant authorities to import this drug to Sri Lanka for a lower price Minister has stated .

A Person With More Than Seven Kilo Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis Arrested In Mundalama

A person was arrested while transporting 7 kilo
grammes and 30 grammes of Kerala Cannabis brought from India  by special police task force personal of  Rajagiriya  at Mundalama-Madurankuliya area (North Western Province)last night (04)

The 41 year old suspect who is a resident in Koththanthivu area was arrested while transporting the stock of kerala cannabis in a cab.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Puttalam magistrate court.

A Jailor Was Attacked In A Bus At Galle

A jailor attached to the Galle Prison had received
serious injuries to one of his eyes after being assaulted by a group of underworld gang in a bus at Unvatuna ,Galle (Southern Province) it has bern reported.

He is due to  undergo a surgery for his eye injury sources said.

The Jailor had been assaulted by six persons  while on  his way to duty.Although the whereabouts of the attackers had been revealed ,no one was arrested regarding the incident so far sources revealed.

After the arrival of the Ship it's commander Muhammad Hassan Tariq has been welcomed by the Eastern naval command.

An Indian National Was Arrested While Photographing Prime Minister's Official Residence

Police have arrested an Indian National while
photographing prime minister Ranil Wikramasinghe's official residence "Temple Trees"in colpettty  (Colombo)on suspicion last noon.

According to the Police Media Spokesman's  Office the suspect has been identified as a 36 year old resident of Tamil Nadu ,India who lives in Wellawatte .He has been detained by Police for further questioning .

More Than 20 Acres Of Land In A Forest Reserve At Ginigathhena Destroyed Due To A Fire

More than 20 acres of land has been destroyed due to
a sudden fire erupted in a forest area near the Water Board office in Gibihathhena (Central Province).

Due to the dry weather condition prevailing at present  and the winds ,controlling the fire which reported as spreading rapidly towards norton bridge area has become difficult.

Matara-Wellamadama premises of University of
Ruhuna has been closed down indefinitley today (04) following a clash occurred between a group of University Students and villagers.

Accordingly faculties of Agriculture,Humanities,Science ,Social Sciences ,Fisheries,Marine Sciences and Management located within the wellamadama premises have  closed and the administrators informed the students to vacate the hostels by this afternoon.

A Group Conducted A Protest Campaign While Official Independence Day Celebrations Were Being Held

While an official Independence day celebrations held
in Colombo and District Secretariat in Jaffna today (04) a group of persons conducted a protest rally in Jaffna this morning over several demands including  the removal of Army from Northern Province , findout the missing persons and release of  tamil political prisoners.

The group including Northern Provincial Councilors Anandee Shasheedaren and M.K Sivajilingam conducted  the protest campaign on A-9 Road in front of the District Secretariat premises where the Independence day celebrations were held.

A tense situation has occurred during the protest after police have informed the protesters  to refrain from protesting based on a court order issued by Jaffna Magistrate Court.


President Has Converted Death In Row Sentences Of 60 Prisoners To Life Imprisonment

President Maithripala Sirisena has today
(04)converted jail sentences of 60  Prisoners in Sri Lankan jail's who were sentenced to death in row to life imprisonment to mark 69th Independence day of the country which falls today(04).

President has implemented this according to the recommendations made by Minister Of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakshe based on a report of an expert committee appointed to look into converting death in row sentences to life imprisonment .

A young motor cyclist was killed after colliding with
an iron fence near the Mahawa Railway Station today (04) according to Police Headquarters.

The deceased met with the accident as unable to control the speed of the vehicle.He was on his way to madalgama from daladagama at the timeit has been revealed.

Leprosy Still Not In The Elimination Stage ?

Although Sri Lanka is planning to eliminate Leprosy
from the country by 2020 annually around 2000 Leprosy Patients have been reported from the country according to the Anti Leprosy Campaign.

During the last year (2016) 1853 Leprosy Patients were reported from the country the Campaign has stated.

Around 9- 10 percent of the Leprosy Patients reported from the country have been identified with deformaties related to the disease and that percentage is higher when comparing to other countries in South Asia consultant dermatologist attached to the Central Leprosy Clinic has stated during a media seminar held yesterday (03) regarding Leprosy .

According to him child Leprosy Patients in the country is on the increase and around 9 -10 percent of the Leprosy Patients reported from Sri Lanka are  Children .

To avoid Leprosy becoming an epidemic here public as well as the community physicians and dermatologists need to be well informed of the disease Dr.Amarathunge has stressed.
