CEO Of A Financial Institution In Padukka Was Shot Dead In Horana

Image result for shooting clipartThe chief executive officer (CEO)of a Financial Institution in Padukka area (Colombo) was shot and killed by an unidentified person in Ilimba Junction at Horana this morning(03).

The assassin arrived on a Motor Cycle and shot the CEO and fled the scene it has been reported.

The victim was 48 year old resident of Ingiriya area Police have stated.According to the Police T-56 gun and a 9 mili meter firearm had used for the shooting.

Due to the shooting a salesman attached to a nearby shop too got injured and hospitalized .

Horana Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.

A 40 Year Old Person Died After Colliding With A Tipper Truck

A 40 year old person has died after colliding with a Tipper Truck in Hungama-Pallerota area yesterday (02)it has been reported.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Mamandala area.

Police have arrested the driver of the Tipper Truck regarding the accident.
 

Five Parachutists Had Fallen Into The Sea While Involving In Independent Day Rehearsals

Five Parachutists have fallen into the sea during Independent Day Celebration rehearsals today(03) it has been reported.

However Vessels belonging to Sri Lanka Navy have rescued the Parachutists.

The 69th Independence Day Celebrations due to be held at Galle Face Grounds tomorrow(04). 

Around Fifteen Acres Belonging To Pinus Forest Reserve In Upcountry Destroyed Due To A Fire

Image result for hatton pinus reserveAround fifteen  acres belonging to  Pinus forest reserve near the Watawala Tamil School and Hatton Railway track (Upcountry) had been destroyed due to a sudden fire broken out in the reserve this evening.

Accordingly Ten acres near the Tamil School and another five acres near the Hatton Railway track destroyed due to the fire it has been reported.The authorities have controlled the spreading of fire at present according to reports.

Twenty One Medical Students Arrested During Yesterday's Protest Released On Bail

Twenty one medical students arrested by the police
last evening (02)during the medical students ptotest march held in Colombo ,had been released on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court last night .

After being produced before the court the group of medical students released on person  bail of Rs.200,000 each.

Colombo Fort Magistrste has ordered them to appear before the court on 15 th of Febtuary.

An Illegal Vehicle Assembling Plant Was Raided In Minuwangoda

More than fifty vehicles illegally assembled locally had been
 seized by Panadura-Walana anti vice squad during a raid carried out in a vehicle assembling plant situated at industrial zone in Minuwangoda area last evening (01).

Twenty nine cars and twenty two jeeps are among the assembled vehicles seized by the Police according to reports.

Due to the illegall assembling plant government has incurred RS.325 million  loss it has been revealed.

Sri Lanka customs and Panadura-Walana anti vice squad are conducting an investigation on the incident.

Wild Life Officials Arrested A Person Illegally Breeding And Selling Local Birds

Wild Life officials have arrested a person who was breeding
 and selling local species of birds illegally by violating  fauna and flora protection  ordinance ,in his house in Obeysekerapura ,Rajagiriya (Colombo) .

The officials have taken into custody 14 parrots,4 wild owls and two black turtles in suspects house during the raid

The suspect is due to produce before Magistrate Court . 

Doctors To Lainch A Four Hour Island Wide Token Strike Tomorrow(03)

Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA)has
decided to launch a four hour island wide  token strike tomorrow (03 )from 8 a.m to 12 noon demanding the release of 12 Medical Students arrested by the Police this evening during the protest against Malabe Private Medical Collage.

Accordingly if the authorities fail to release the all arrested medical students by tomorrow (03) doctors will expand their trade union action further GMOA has announced.

Police Used Tear Gas And Water Cannons To Disperse Medical Student Protestors In Lotus Road

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest
  March of Medical students organized by the Medical Faculty Students Action Committee against the court decision in granting permission to students of Malabe Private Medical Collage to register with Sri Lanka Medical Council   at Lotus Road roundabout in Colombo Fort  this evening (02).

Police have also arrested 12 protesting Medical students over violent behaviour  it has been reported .

Police fired the tear gas and water cannons towards  the student protestors when they attempted to march towards presidential secrerariet .

More than two thousand medical students had  participated the protest March started at Colombo Medical Faculty premises. Then members of Inter University Students Federation have also joined the protest march which  caused heavy traffic in Colombo Fort.Maradana and Punchi Borella  areas.

Meanwhile Colombo Additional Magistrate Ranga Dassanayake had earlier rejected the motion filed by police seeking an issuing of  injunction order  to  prevent  the protest march.

Twelve Thousand Dying From Cancers Annually In Sri Lanka

According to the latest statistics  available in
 82.1 per 100,000 population in Sri Lanka suffering from cancers the National Cancer Control Programme has stated.

Around 12,000 persons suffering from cancers are dying in Sri Lanka annually according to the programme.

Oral cancer is the number one cancer spreading among Sri Lankan males and Breast Cancer is number one among females Dr.Suraj Perera attached to the Cancer Control Programme has stated during a media briefing held in Health Education Bureau in Colombo yesterday (01).

Free screening tests for cancers are available in National Cancer Control Programme in Colombo and could obtain further details on this through http://www.nccp.health.gov.lk

Health Ministry Has Ordered To Import Around 100,000 Cataract Lenses This Year For Cataract Surgeries In Government Hospitals

Ministry Of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine
has ordered to import around 100,000 cataract lenses required for Government Hospitals including Eye Hospital In Colombo this year  in view of preventing government hospital cataract patients purchasing lenses from private sector according to the Director General  Of Health Services Dr.Jayasundara Bandara.

The imported stock of cataract lenses due to arrive in Sri Lanka within next  three month Dr.Bandara has stated.."Till then Health Ministry has advised the Government Hospital authorities to purchase cataract lenses needs for cataract surgeries from outside and supply to the patients " he has stressed during a media briefing held in Health Education Bureau in Colombo yesterday (01).

However it has been reported that some eye surgeons in Eye Hospital,Colombo have  suspended cataract surgeries after the Health Ministry has ordered not to recommend patients to purchase cataract lenses from their own expenses .

Central Committee Of GMOA To Decide Whether To Go For A Strike Or Not Against Court's Verdict On SAITM

The central committee of the Government Medical
Officers Association (GMOA)will  decide today (02)whether to go for an island wide strike action or not and other possible alternative actions should be tsken against the  Appeals Court's decision in granting permission to Medical Graduates of Malabe Private Medical Collage(SAITM) to register with Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC)according to the spokesman of GMOA Dr.Samantha Ananda.

The Central Committee of the GMOA is due to meet this morning to decide future course of actions that ould  be taken against the  court's decision.

GMOA alleges that the  Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne is responsible for the court's verdict on Private Medical Collage in Malabe as he didnt't provide proper  evidence to the Appeals Court as a respondent of a case filed by Private Medical Collage student requesting SLMC Registration for them.

Sri Lanka Medical Council has submitted a full report on lapses and shortcomings of SAITM to the current Health Minister Dr.Senaratne in 2015 ,but he failed to submit the facts in that report to the court ptoperly GMOA has stated.

Astrologer Who Made False Prediction On President Released on bail

Colombo Chief Magistrate has today
(01)granted bail for the Astrologer Vijitha Rohana Wijemuni who was arrested due to made a wrong Astrological prediction  that the president's life is in danger before 26th of January .

However later he has been taken back to prison as he fails to fulfil bail requirements .

The suspect has been released on a cash bail of RS.10,000 and two personal bails  of one million rupees each.

He has been also  banned from leaving the country.

Police have arrested five persons believed to be members
Of the sword armed gang in Jaffna(Northern Province)"Ava"group today(01) in Jaffna.

These suspects had been arrested over assaulting two persons and damaging a shop in Nallur,Jaffna yesterday (31).

Ten Females Had Been Arrested During A Raid In A Brothel House In Colombo

The Police Officers attached to the  Colombo Central Divisional Law Enforcement Unit had been arrested ten females involved in Prostitution during a raid carried out in a Brothel House in Malay Street,Cololmbo last evening(31).


The arrested females are in the age group 29-45 it  has been revealed.During the raid Police Officers have also arrested a male and a female who owned the Brothel House.

The raid was carried out according to a search warrant issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate and the arrested females were brought to the Brothel House Ragama,Mathugama,Aluthgama,Handapangoda ,lindula ,Middeniya,Kirulapona  and Thissamaharamaya areas it has been revealed.

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest march launched by Colombo Harbor workers in Colombo Fort this evening(01) demanding to suspend the handing over of  Eastern Jetty in Colombo Harbor to an Indian Company.

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons  at the protestors when the Protest March which began from entry point of Colombo Harbor near the Khan Clock Tower arrived near the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo Fort  .

Due to the Protest March organized by National Trade Union Center the entry point  to Galle Face from Lotus Roundabout has been temporarily closed .
