Annual Budget -2017 Proposals

*Loans for Journalists to purchase Journalistic Equipment with 50 percent concessionary interest rate

*Five year visas for foreign investors who are willing to invest in Sri Lanka.

*Excise (Special Provisions)Duty to be imposed on Beer Cans and any Lottery Ticket
Accordingly Rs.10 per can Excise Duty will be imposed for Beer Cans not more than 350 mili liters and Rs.15 per can will be imposed on Beer Cans more than 350 mili liters.

Also Excise (special province) Duty will be imposed on any Lottery Ticket at Rs.5 per Lottery Ticket.
Excise Duty will be introduced to imported non port able Alcohol at Rs.25 per liter .


Budget Proposals -2017: Continues

*Rs.200 million allocated for introduction of Electric Cars as an alternative for Three Wheelers.
Three Wheelers and School Vans to be regulated.

*Samurdhi Programme to be renamed as Jana Isuru Programme

*Pre paid card to be introduced for Train Services

*The fee charged for withdrawing money from a  teller mechine to be increased to Rs.10

*Four Commercial Banks to be built throughout the island

*A pension Scheme to be introduced for Bus Drivers,Conductors and cleaners

*Budget Air Line "Mihin Lanka" to be converted into a profitable institute

Rs.3000  million to be allocated to pay compensation for Golden Key depositors


President's Counsal Sarath Jayamanne Has Been Appointed As New Director General Of Bribery Commission

President Maithripala Sirisena has today (10)  appointed President's Counsal Sarath Jayamanne as the new Director General of the Bribery Commission.

The new Director General of Bribery Commission who is currently serving as an additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General's Department has received his appointment letter at the Presidential Secretariet in Colombo.

The Director General post of the Bribery Commission has  become vacant with the resignation of former Director General Dilrukshi Wikramasinghe.

Annual Budget Proposals-2017

*Five Hundrad Thousand new houses for low and middle income groups from  next year


*Rs.25 million allocated to esrablish Amaradeva Music Acadamy in memory of late pandith W.A.D Amaradeva

*New Domestic  Air Line to be established from 31 st of March

*Telecommunication Levy to be increased by 25 percent.Corporate income tax revised.

+Ceylon Tobacco  Company requested  to donate Rs.500 million to Presidential Fund to be utilized  for the Anti Smoking campaign

*Levy imposed on foreign films and tele dramas dubbed into Sinhala and Tamil to be incteased from Rs.90,000 to Rs.300,000 per 30 minutes

*Cess Tax imposed on 100 items to be removed with imediatte effect

*PAYE Tax will be excluded upto Rs.Rs.100,000 per month


Annual Budget-2017: More Concessions- 1

*CattleFarming Zones to be established

*The Expressway fees have been reduced by Rs.50 from 9 p.m to 5.a.m

*Monthly allowance of Rs.2500 recommended for Pirivena (Temples) Students

*Twenty Five Essential Commodities will be provided for concessionary prices through Lak Sathosa outlets island wide

*Rs.50 million allocated to recognized new talents in sports field and developing their talents

*Rs.50 million allocated to establish a film preserve preserving unit to preserve  award winning films of local cinema legend Sir Lester James Pieris like "Gamperaliya" and "Nidanaya"

Rs.one milion with One hundrad percent tax concession will be provided to University Graduates who will be forming new companies

Prices Of Several Essential Commodities Reduced Through The Budget

essential commodities සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලThe prices of several  commodities are being  reduced through the 2017 Annual Budget, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake had announced  during his budget speech.

Accordingly  the price of White Sugar has been reduced by Rs.2 per Kilo Gramme,Dhal by Rs.10 per Kilo Gramme,Sprats by Rs.5 per Kilo Gramme,Green Gram by Rs/15 per Kilo Gramme,Potatoes by Rs.5 per Kilo Gramme ,Kerosene by Rs.5 per Liter and Domestic Gas Cylinder by Rs.25.
