Sri Lanka Navy Personal Arrested Three Local Fishermen While Illegally Fishing In Eastern And Northern Seas

Image result for illegal fishing in sri lankaSri Lanka Navy Personal have arrested three local fishermen while engaging in illegal fishing with  banned fishing nets in Kaththankudi(Eastern Province) and Waleipadu (Northern Province) Sea Areas according to the Navy.

Accordingly Navy Personal have arrested two local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing with banned mono filament fishing nets in the seas off Kaththankudi and the arrested fishermen along with their equipment were handed over to the Batticaloe Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.

Navy Officers have arrested another fisherman while illegally fishing with banned fishing nets in sea area of Waleipadu and handed over to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.

World Health Organization Has Named Sri Lanka As A Malaria Free Nation

World Health Organization(WHO) has named Sri Lanka as a country free from Malaria Disease and awarded the Malaria Elimination Certificate short while ago at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo during the ongoing South East Asia Regional Health Minister's Summit.

The Director General of WHO Dr.Margret Chan had presented the Malaria Elimination Certificate to the Si Lanka's Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne .

Sri Lanka has made a request from WHO to name the country as a Malaria free nation as during last three years no Malaria Patient who contacted the disease locally reported from the country. 

Three research teams attached to World Health Organization has visited Sri Lanka in three occasions during last three years to inspect the local Malaria Control Activities the Ministry of Health has announced.

Eleven Health Ministers who are participating the on going World Health Organization's South East Asia Regional Health Ministers Summit in Colombo had participated a Yoga Exercise Programme along with President Maithripala Sirisena ,Director General Of WHO Dr.Margaret Chan and  other WHO and Health Ministry Officials at the Galle Face Hotel Garden in Colombo early  this morning.

President Maithripala Sirisena Has Received WHO's Excellence In Public Health Award

The Director Of World Health Organization for South Asia Region Dr.Poonam Ketrapal Singh has today (05)presented the Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena the Excellence In Public Health Award by the WHO South East Asia Region for his Remarkable Role In Public Health Gains. 

According to the WHO Office in Colombo the award has been presented to the President Sirisena at a ceremony held at the President's House in Colombo this evening.

'President Sirisena has been awarded for his outstanding visionary contributions and tireless pursuit of good health for the people of his country. He has been instrumental in strengthening health system and services and has made commendable contributions to tobacco control, drugs regulation, health of migrants and control of chronic kidney disease,” Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia Region, said here after honoring the President with the WHO award.

WHO has also presented “the same award to the Ministry of Public Health of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(North Korea).The Ministry is being awarded for safeguarding and strengthening the traditional medicine system and using it to provide effective health care to people,” the Regional Director said..
