During The Island Wide Raids Carried Out On Monday And Tuesday 6009 Varieties Of Soft Drinks Without Newly Introduced Sugar Indicator Were Recovered
During the raids carried out at trade centers and eateries island wide on Monday (22)and Tuesday(23) under the National Food Safety Week the Public Health Inspectors had been recovered 6009 varieties of soft
drinks which didn't indicate the contained sugar level through the color
code system introduced by the Health Ministry it has been reported.
According to the Public Health Inspectors Association around 1722 soft drink varieties had been recovered during the raids carried out on Monday the first day of the National Food Safety Week and 4287 varieties of soft drinks were recovered during the raids today(23).
All these varieties of Soft Drinks are due to be sent back to the manufacturers as they are unable to implement color code system to indicate sugar levels
In their products according to the Ministry Of Health.
Food and Drinks not suited for human consumption had been destroyed 5902 instances and legal cases filed against 293 traders for selling unsuited food items during the raids carried out in last two days the president of the Public Health Inspectors Association Upul Rohana has stated.
During the raids carried out yesterday night notices were issued to 52 eateries attached to long distance bus stops in the island which are selling food and drinks not suitable for human consumption he has stressed.

Hulftsdorp Magistrate Court Had Sentenced A Drunken Bus Driver Three Month Imprisonment
The Hulftsdorp Magistrate Court has today(23)sentenced a Private Bus Driver three month imprisonment and fined Rs.7500 over driving a Bus under liquor influence.
The court has also suspended the driving license of the driver for a six month period it has been reported.
The driver who drove a Private Bus traveling from Colombo Fort to Homagama (138 route)this morning had been reported as driving the Bus by blocking the road near Lipton Roundabout in Colombo according to the Police Headquarters.
As per the information received, the Cinnamon Garden Police Officers had stopped the Bus and detected the driver was under liquor influence at that time.Afterwards the police had detained the driver and being produced before the 07th Magistrate Court at Hulftsdorp this evening it has been reported.

A 61 Year Old Russian Had Drowned To Death While Sea Bathing In Koggala
A 61 year old Russian had drowned to death while sea bathing off the Koggala Sea at Habaraduwa(In Southern Province) area according to the sources.
The life saving guards have managed to rescue the drowning Russian and he was later declared as dead upon admission to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital the sources have stated.
The body of the deceased is snow lying at the Karapitiya Hospital for post mortem.
Habaraduwa Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.

Speaker Has Signed The Bill Establishing Office Of Missing Persons
The Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has short while ago signed the bill establishing the office of missing persons at the Parliament.
Parliament has passed the office of missing persons act on 11th of August without a vote amidst protests of the Joint Opposition Group MP's led by former president Mahinda Rajapakshe.
After speaker's signature the bill establishing the office of missing persons will become a law with immediate effect.
The office of missing persons is due to help and search to trace the missing persons.submit recommendations to the authorities to take measures on missing persons , protect the rights of missing persons and their relatives and identifying the ways that missing persons and their relatives can obtain relief .
The office after establishing is due to trace those who had disappeared during the 26 year old war against LTTE Rebels and the armed revolution launched by Marxist JVP against the government between 1987-89 period.

Health Minister To Submit A Cabinet Paper To Ban Importing Areca Nut Based Products To Sri Lanka
