Government To Close Down The All 31 IDP Camps In Jaffna District By 15th Of August

The Sri Lankan government has planned to resettle 971 Internally Displaced Families residing  in 31 Camps situated in Jaffna District (In Northern Province) and close down all the camps  by 15th August according to sources.

The Cabinet has approved last Wednesday Rs.971 million to build houses for Internally Displaced Families at a unit cost of Rs.1 million.

Building of 204 houses for IDP families  at palai and kankasanthurai areas is due to be completed in few months time and identification of suitable land to build houses for remaining 767 families is currently underway the sources have further stated.

A Heavy Traffic Has Been Reported Along Flower Road DueTo A Protest Match Of Teachers

A heavy traffic has been reported along flower road  in Colombo for a long period this noon due to a  protest march staged by teachers.

The Ceylon Teacher's Union has organized this protest march which went towards Prime Minister's Office in Colombo by demanding placement of the graded school principals in their relevent positions.


Water Board To Implement An 11 Hour Water Cut In Several Areas In Colombo Tomorrow (23)

The National Water Supply And Drainage Board is due to implement an eleven hour water cut tomorrow (23) from 12 noon to 12 in the midnight in around ten areas in Colombo District including Malabe,Maharagama and Battaramulla due to an urgent repairs the Water Board has announced.

Accordingly the water supply to Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council Area ,Maharagama,Koswatte,Battaramulla ,Malabe,Thalawathugoda,Boralesgamuwa Urban Council Area,Hokandara,Jayawadanagama and Kalapaluwawa areas will be temporarily suspended.

The water  to Colombo-06 and Colombo-08 will be supplied at low preassure during the water cut  it has been reported.

The Water Board has requested the public to store water in advance to avoid inconvenience during the water cut.



Government To Limit The Importation Of Three Wheelers To The Country.

The Minister of Transport and civil aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva has stated today (22) that the government would limit the importation of three wheelers popularly known as "tuk tuk" to the country as there are more than enough three whealers on the roads.

Addressing a function held in Colombo today (22)to introduce a new three wheeler improvedwith safety features,The minister says a bill will be submitted to the parliament in future to implement laws to fixing seat belts in  three wheelers for the safety of it's passangers .

It is estimated that around 1.5 million three wheelers are there in sri lankan roads at present the transport minister has stressed.

The Newly Revised Bus Fares Have Announced

The Ministry Of Transport and Civil Aviation along with the National Transport Commission had today(22) announced the Revised Annual Bus Fares due to be granted with effect from 01st of August this year.

Accordingly both Private and Sri Lanka Transport Board buses are allowed to increase the bus fares by 6%.

Meanwhile the expressway bus fares too are due to be increases with effect from 01st of August.The new bus fares for expressways are as follows.

Kaduwela to Mathara- Rs.490
Maharagama to Mathara-Rs- 470
Maharagama to Galle- Rs- 390

The National Transport Commission has stated that stern action will be taken against those bus operators who have charged bus fares more than the approved rates.
