Australian Government Deported Nine Sri Lankan Illegal Immigrants

Australian Government yesterday deported 9 Sri Lankans who were held in Christmas Island after been captured while trying to enter to the Country Illegally.All  9 People  deported are Sinhalese according to the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Australia Mr.Senaka Walgampaya.

These Sri Lankans along with another large number of persons travelling through a Boat towards Australia when the Australian Authorities captured them in last November.They are all related to the Fishing Industry and came from coastal areas of Negambo,Marawila and Kochchikade and they are seeking Refugee Status in Australia it has been revealed.Another large Number of Sri Lankan Illegal Immigrants who were captured by the Australian Authorities are currently undergoing a Screening Process in the Christmas Island.

National Drug Policy Is To Be Submitted To Parliamentary Select Committee Next Weak

Much talked about National Drug Policy is due to be presented to the Parliamentary Select Committee on 8th of October to get required  Amendments Ministry Of Health had Announced today.After getting necessary Amendments The Drug Policy which was approved by the Cabinet by  October 2005 will Published in National News Papers before 01st of November to get Public Opinion Ministry Sources said.

After going through this Process the Policy is due to submitted to the Parliament for approval.

No Tsunami Warnning After The Indonesisan Quake

Although Indonesia had experienced a huge Earth Quake this Evening marked 7.9 in the Richter Scale,there will be no Tsunami Threat to  the Island according to the Sri Lankan Meterology daepartment.However the Met Department requested the Public to stay away from Beeches as a precautionary measure.

EU Commission To Decide GSP Plus On Sri Lanka i

The Commission  on The European Union is to meet on 15th of October to discuss on the GSP Plus Concession for  Sri Lanka.The final Decision on granting of GSP Plus to Sri Lanka is to be taken at the end of the year according to the EU Sources.

Health Secretary To Appoint An Inquiry Committee To Probe 38 Blood Bank Officials

The Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage is due to appoint a Special Inquiry Committee to probe a Formal Disciplinary Inquiry against the 38 defendants of the Issuing Of Expired Blood Kits Case.These Defendants were already received Charge Sheets to explain there positions regarding the Charges leveled against them within two weak's  time.

After they make out  there explanations  the Committee will begin the Inquiry Health Ministry Sources said today.The defendants who were issued Charge Sheets included  the former Director of the National Blood Centre in Colombo Dr.Mangalika Bindusara.Due to the Public Services Commission(PSC) delays the issuing of Charge Sheets to the above defendants the Powers vested to the PSC were transfer to the Health Secretary through  a Special Cabinet Order last weak..

Ten Suspects Of The IT Student Assault Case Were Further Remanded

The Colombo Magistrate Court today refused Bail and further remanded the 10 Suspects including the Son and Wife of the Former SSP Vaas Gunawardena who are taken into Custody regarding the assault over IT Student Nipuna Ramanayaka..The Court also instructed the Police to get an Information from another Police on one other  Suspect involved in the Incident.

Health Minister Submitted The Cuban Dengue Report For Cabinet Approval


Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva submitted the Cuban Epidemiologists Report on Using the Cuban Methodology into the Sri Lankan Dengue Control Programme to the Cabinet on last Wednesday.This Report was later Prepared again to suit Sri Lankan standard and with this Report the Estimated Cost Report to implement the above Report too was submitted to the Cabinet Approval.
A panel of Sri Lankan Professors and Experts made changes in the original Report which was submitted by the two visiting Cuban Epidemiologists.
