Medical Faculty Students To Boycott Lectures Tomorrow

All the Medical Students attach to the Six Medical Faculties in the Island will launch an One Day Boycotting of Lectures tomorrow to protest against the Government's decision to allow A Private Medical Collage to be set up in the Country The Medical Faculty Students Action Committee said today.Government allowed to set up a Private Medical Collage at Malabe in the Colombo Suburbs few months back.

According to the Committee around 6000 Medical Students studying at the Medical Faculties of Colombo,Peradeniya,Karapitiya,Sri Jayawardanapura,Ragama and Anuradhapura will join this one day boycott to be stage tomorrow against what they said the Privatising of Medical Education in Sri Lanka.

UN Human Rights Rep.Walter Kalin Arrives The Island

The Representative of the United Nations Secretary General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Mr.Walter Kalin arrived Sri Lanka last morning on an invitation of the Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management Mahinda Samarasinha.

He is due to tour the IDP Camps in the North to witness the situation there especially the Demining,Reconstruction and Developmnt Programmes there Minister Samarasinha said.

Doctor Attempt To Sexually Abuse Pregnant Mother Was Interdicted

The Doctor who is charged for attempting Sexual Abuse of a Pregnant Mother at the Sri Jayawardanapura Teaching Hospital was Interdicted by the Director General of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis yesterday.The Doctor who is an Intern was interdicted for a period of one month according to the recommendation made by the Report of an Inquiry held on the incident.

Director General Of Health Services also submitted the Report to the Sri Lanka Medical Council to take a Stern Disciplinary Action against the accused Doctor.The Director of the Jayawardanapura Hospital has been carried out the Inquiry and handed over the Report to Director General Of Health Services on last Saturday.

IMF Says No Secret Conditions For Sri Lanka's Loan

International Monetary Fund(IMF) today says that there were no secret conditions apart from the Technical formalities and fiscal obligations for the approval of the loan to Sri Lanka.

IMF Official said today that they are planning to open an IMF Office in Colombo in two weeks time.

Southern Provincial Councilor Arrested Over Criticizing IGP Was Remanded

Southern Provincial Councilor Nishantha Muthuhettigama who was arrested yesterday over accusing against the IGP and the Police was remanded till 28th of September after produced to the Court today.He was remanded a week ago too due to a complaint filed by the contestant of the Governing Party for the Forthcoming Southern Provincial Council Elections Actress Anarkali Akarsha .

14 Percent Of Sri Lankan Primary School Children Are Obessed

The recently conducted survey reveals that 14 percent of the Primary School Children in Sri Lanka are Obessed the Director of Non Communicable Diseases Unit of the Ministry of Health Dr.Lal Panapitiya said today.The Bad Food Habits and Malnutrition are the main causes behind this situation and Childhood Obesity will cause a Serious Health Problems including Cardiac Problems in Future he stressed.

He make these remarks during a Media Seminar on World Heart Day held at the Health Education Bureau at Colombo this morning.The World Heart day falls on the 27th of September.

Addressing the Seminar Dr.Gamini Galapaththy a Cardiologist attached to the Cardiology Unit of the Colombo National Hospital said that unlike in the past where old aged people are suffering from blocks of the Arteries the Cardiac Problems among the Young and middle aged people are in increase nowadays.Cardiac problems are caused due to the five factors Diabetes,High Blood P reassure,Cholesterol,Smoking and Obesity.So people should lead a Healthier life style with full of Physical Activity and Good Eating Habits to avoid Non Communicable Diseases like Cardiac Problems Dr.Galappaththi further added.

The Inquiry Report On Sexual Harassment Against A Pregnant Mother handover

The Inquiry Report on Attempted Sexual Harassment by a Doctor attached to the Sri Jayawardanapura Hospital over a Pregnant Mother at the Hospital was handed over to the Director General Of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis on last Saturday.According to the Dr.Mendis he will examine the Report and refer it to the Sri Lanka Medical Council to take a Disciplinary Action against the Doctor if he has found guilty on the incident.

The Director of the Sri Jayawardanapura Hospital Dr.D.L.D Laneroll was carried out the Investigations on to the Incident after Husband of the Victim was made a complaint on the incident two week's ago.
