A Group Of Protesters Begun Fast Unto Death Campaign In Front Of Temple Trees

 Members of Inter university students federation (IUSF) had begun a fast unto death campaign with the support of  Galle Face protestors yesterday (15) in front of the Prime Minister's official residence "Temple Trees" demanding the   resignation of Acting President Ranil Wikramasinha and the government ,


Protesters had named the protest site in front of Temple trees as "No dealgama ",

Supreme Court Had Issued An Interim Order Preventing Five Including Former Premier Mahinda Rajpakshe

 Supreme Court had today (15) issued an interim order against Former Prime Minister MP Mahinda Rajapakshe and Former Finance Minister Basil Rajapakshe preventing them Going abroad without the permission of the court until 28th of this Month .


The five bench Judge board headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya had issued this Interim order after proceeding the petition  filed at court by three persons including social activist Chandra Jayaratne and former Swimmer Julian Bolling requesting to issue an interim order preventing five officials including Basil and Mahinda Rajapakshe from going abroad .

The other three respondents mentioned  by the petition,  former Central Bank governors Ajith Nivad Cabral and Professor W.D Lakshman as well as the former Secretary to the Ministry Of Finance S.R Atygala had informed  the court through their lawyers they will not  going abroad as ordered by the Supreme Court ,

The petitioners who filed this motion had requested the Supreme Court to investigate on  those who are responsible for the current economic crisis and take an action against them ,

Prime Minister Had Sworn In As Acting President

 Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe had sworn in as acting Executive President of Sri Lanka this noon before the Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya .


Acting President had sworn in accordance to the provisions of the Constitution and a new President is scheduled to be appointed on 20th of July through a vote in Parliament .

Speaker Officially Announced The Resignation Of 08th Executive President

 Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had officially announced the resignation of President Gotabhaya Rajapakshe who is currently in Singapore ,this morning (15).


Briefing  the media this morning  regarding the resignation of former President ,Speaker has told that Gotabhya Rajapakshe who was the eighth executive President Of Sri Lanka had officially resigned with effect from 14th of July 2022 and the resignation letter he had sent through the Sri Lankan embassy in Singapore last night is legally valid ,

Under the  clause 38 (1) of  the Constitution in Sri Lanka the executive president can resign before end of his  term through a .letter send to the speaker ,

Former President became the first executive president in Sri Lanka who had resigned before the end of his full term of five years. He was elected as president in 2019 ..

The new President is due to be selected through a Parliament vote on 20th of July and Prime Minister Ranil Wikramaisnghe is currently  appointed as the acting President until the appointing of a  new president ,He is due to sworn  in as the acting president today ,




Protesters Handed Over The Captured Buildings

 Protesters who had captured an important buildings in Colombo recently during the protests had handed over the buildings to the authorities and left from there ,


Earlier Protesters have stated that if the President and Prime Minster are  resigning from their posts they will vacate the buildings ,

Except the  Presidential secretariat  ,Protesters had handed over Prime Minister's office and  Temple trees they have captured few days back .Protesters still remain in Presidential Secretariat and the Galle face site .

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe To Be Sworn In As Acting President Tomorrow (15)

 Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe is scheduled to be sworn in as acting President of Sri Lanka tomorrow Morning (15) according to the Government sources .




Premier Wikramasinghe is due to be sworn in as acting President accordance to the provisions of Sri Lanka's constitution after announcing the resignation of Gotabhaya Rajpakshe as president the sources have added .

According to the local constitution If the President's post is vacant before the end of his term ,Prime Minister of the country will automatically elected as the next president .Ex  President Rajapakshe had issued an extra ordinary gazette notification yesterday (13)to declare Premier Wikramasinghe as acting president of the country . 

However Galle face protesters want Ranil Wikramasinghe to resign from premier post along with the government .
