Two Corona Deaths Reported Yesterday (30)

 Two more Corona Deaths had been reported yesterday (30))increasing the total number of Corona deaths in the country to 118 according to National Covid -19 Prevention Center .


Accordingly a 72 year old male in Galaha,Peradeniya  at the Central province and 81 year old female in Ataluwagama in Kalutara District had died due to corona infection .

Dr Sudarshani Fernandopulle Had Been Removed From The State ministerial Post On Prison Reforms Following The Mahara Prison Incident

 President Gotabaya Rajapskshe had yesterday (30)removed the State Minister of Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation of Prisoners Dr.Sudarashani Fernanfopulle from her prortfolio and appointed her as the new State Minister of Primary healthcare ,Infectious Diseases and Covid -19 prevention .


Dr Fernanfopulle had sworn in ,in her new portfolio last evening before president .

Dr Fernanfopulle had been removed from her previous portfolio following riots held at Mahara prison last Sunday .A new Minister to handle the. prisons is scheduled to be appointed by the government soon according to reports .

503 Corona Positives Were Reported Yesterday (30)

 A total of 503 Corona Positives had been reported in the country yesterday (30)increasing the total number of Corona positives reported so far to 23,987 according to National Covid -19 prevention Center .


Accordingly 496 positives were reported from locally and seven were foreign arrivals with a Sea Marshal .Majority of the Corona positives reported yesterday (30) which was 146 were reported in Colombo district and 130 positives  had been reported  in Gampaha District .

At the moment 6309 Corona positives are being treated at government hospitals and treatment centers .


08 Prison Inmates Were Killed And 109 Hospitalized Due To Riots In Mahara Prison -More Inmates Tested Positive For Corona

 Due to the tense situation occurred in Mahara Prison on last Sunday evening   08 Prison inmates had died and 109 others including 107 prison inmates and 02 prison officers had been injured and admitted to Ragama Teaching hospital for treatment upto now according to sources .

Accordingly 61 out of the 107 injured prison inmates of Mahara prison who were admitted to Ragama Teaching Hospital yesterday (30) were tested positive for Corona virus through Rapid Antigen test performed on them at the hospital yesterday. .


The condition of some of the injured Prison inmates at the hospital is critical and they were undergone surgeries yesterday it has been revealed .

Meanwhile prison authorities had transferred another 187 prison inmates at the Mahara Prison to Colombo remand prison and they were also tested positive for Corona virus .Now these prison inmates are being located at a separate prison cell in the remand prison .

Four Prison Inmates Were Killed -Twrnty Five Were Injured Due To A Tense Situation At Mahara Prison

 Four prison inmates attached to Mahara prison were killed and twenty five inmates had been injured and hospitalized as a result of the gun shots fired by prison officials to control the tense situation occurred  among inmates on Sunday (29) evening .


The injured inmates were admitted to Ragama Teaching hospital for treatment.

The incident had occurred when a group of prison inmates at Mahara prison had attempted to escape from prison by breaking the main door of the prison .

A fire occurred inside the prison after the gun shooting and fire brigade  also arrived at the scene .

Department of police had deployed police teams and special task force personal to control the situation it has been reported .

Meanwhile a group of relatives of some prison inmates  arrived at the prison premises to check on whether their relatives also affected due to the incident .
