At A Time When World has Banned Large Gatherings Amidst Corona Pandamic, Colombo International Book Festival Is Going To Be Held As Planned?

As rest of the world has banned large gatherings due to the second wave of Corona virus spread ,organisers of Colombo International Book festival had decided to hold their annual Book exhibition as planned at Bandaranaike Internatonal Conference hall in Colombo -07 from  18- 27 th of  September this year it has been announced .

The Colombo International Book festival is known as a  crowd puller and at this point of time organizng a  large gathering may have created  an unnecessary health problems according to Health circles.

However the organisers of the Book festival Sri lanka Book Publishers Association has stated recently that it will organize this event the 21st edition   according to Corona prevention Health guidelines but did   not announce   the way they have planned to admit public to this event as it is scheduled to be held this time amidst corona pandamic.

According to the World Health Organization Corona virus is not a seasonal virus like other flu viruses and can bounce back at any time .The Organization has last Monday requested the countries to put preassure against the virus as much as they can to curb it .

The 16 Year Old School Student At Rajanganaya Area Had Tested Positive For Corona Virus

The 16 year old School boy in
Rajanganaya, Anuradhapura District who was tested positive and negative for Corona virus in first  two "PCR "Tests performed yesterday (13), had tested positive for the virus in the third test it has been confirmed by Health Authorities today  (14).

The Corona positive student had been hospitalized and 50 students and 06 teachers of his school who were close contacts of the student are being self quarantined at present alomg with another 40 persons living around his house it had been announced.

The student who is a resident of yaya -05 in Rajanganaya area had identified as a Corona positive when the Officials of the Regional MOH Office at Rajanganaya had performed "PCR "test for selected 102 persons from the society.

Due to the Corona positive student no student as well as treachers had attended school both yesterday and today although the school is still not closed down by the Education authorities .

Twelve Corona positives Had Been Discharged From Hospitals Today (14)

A total of 12 Corona positives had been
discharged from hospitals today  (14)after full recovery ,increasing the total number of Corona positives discharged from hospitals to 2658 according to the Epidemeology Unit .

Meanwhile at the moment 92.1 percent out of the total number of Corona positives reported in the country had been recovered and the Corona death rate of the country too had dropped to 0.38 percent it has been reported.

However as a risk of spreading Corona virus in the country still prevails in  ,people are being advised by EpidemeologIsts  to follow corona prevention health guidelines including wearing a mask when using public transport and going to public places, further. 

Four Corona Positives Had Been Reported Today (14)- Epidemeology Unit

Four Corona Positives had been
reported  in the country today (14)according to the Epidemeology Unit.


  • Accordingly three arrivals from United Arab Emirates (UAE) and another and arrival From Japan had tested positive for Corona virus whilst on quarantine at quarantine Centers ,increasing the total number of Corona positives reported in the country to 2886 the Unit has stated.


At the moment 217 Corona positives are being treated in Government  Hospitals. 

Secretaries Had Been Appointed To 28 Cabinet Ministries

New Secretaries had been appointed to
28 Cabinet Ministries by the  President Gotabaya Rajapakshe Yesterday (13) and today  (14).

Accordingly  25 Ministry Secretaries had been appointed yesterday and 03 were appointed today .The biggest change made by the President when appointing Ministry Secretaries is appointing Director General of Health Services Dr.Anil Jasinghe as the Secretary to the Ministry of Enviornment.

Among those Ministry Secretaries that had been appointed are Retired Admiral Jayanath Kolambage as Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Retired Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe as the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Professor Kapila Gunawardane has been appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry  of Buddhasasana and religious Affairs     and Retired Major General Kamal Gunaratna as the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense.
