Prime Minister Elect Mahinda Rajapakshe Received Highest Number Of Preferential Votes In The Election -SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa And Former Army Commander Field Marshal Fonseka Also Received Large Number Of Preferential Votes

Mahinda Rajapakshe of the ruling Sri Lanka People's Progressive Party (SLPP) had secured highest number of preferential votes at the Parliamentary Election held last Wednesday according to the National Election Commission. He had received 527,364  votes from Kurunagala District  and became the Candidate who had received  the highest number of preferential votes in an Election of Sri lanka's Parliament history.

Earlier the record was held by United National Party (UNP ) Leader Former Prime minister Ranil Wikramasinghe.

Meanwhile leader of the newly formed Samagi Jana Balaya (SJB) party Sajith Premadasa who is tipped to become the Opposotion leader of the 09 th Parliament had secured 305,744 preferential votes from Colombo District.

result of Galle district has been released  shortwhile ago.Accordingly -

Sri lanka peoples progressive party (SLPP) - 27,682 votes

Samagi Jana Balawegaya Party (SJB) - 5,144 votes

Jathika Janabalawegaya  Party (JJB)- 3,135 votes

United National Party (UNP) - 1,507 votes

Counting Of Ballot Papers Had Begun In 77 Centers

The counting of ballot papers of the
parliamenrary Election held yesterday (05) had begun at 8 am this morning (06)in 77 Counting Centers according to the National Election Commission .

All Ballot boxes of yesterday's election had been brought to the counting Centers amid security last night and they were opened this morning to count in the presence of political party representatives the Commission has stated.

Election Commission is expecting to release the first official election result around 2.30 -3 p.m this evening and the final All island results by midnight tonight. Preferential vote results are scheduled to be announced tomorrow (07).

At yesterday's election 71 percent out of the total number of registered voters had  cast their  votes it has been revealed .

According to the police the Election was held in peacefull manner by adapting Corona Control Health Guidelines. However 34 persons were arrested by the police yesterday over breaking election rules .
