University Students Protest Caused Heavy Traffic In Lotus Road And Town Hall

Heavy traffic has been reported in and
around Lotus Roundabout and Town Hall this evening (12)for hours due to a protest march conducted by A group of University Students attached to Kelaniya University.

Due to the Protest march entry road to  Galle Face had closed down from Lotus Road  by the Police .Motorists have been advised to use an alternative routes to travel.

The protesters had begun their protest march from Colombo Fort Railway station and marched towards University Grants Commission Buidling at Ward Place, Colombo -07 and held a protest there.

The Protesting students demanded to construct the proposed building scheme for the faculty of Computer and Technology at Kelaniya University and resume the activities  of Gampaha Wikramaarachchi Ayurveda Collage . 

Thirteen Fundemantal. RIGHTS Petitions Filed At Supreme Court Against Dissolving Parliament -Supreme Court Had Commenced Hearing Petitions -Verdict Likely To Be Delivered By Tomorrow (13 )

Thirteen Fundemantal Rights petitions
filed at Supreme Court Today (12) by Many  political parties representing Parliament including United National Party  (UNP),Tamil National Alliance  (TNA),Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna  (JVP),Sri Lanka Muslim Congress  (SLMC),All Ceylon People's Congress, Democratic People's Front and others including Civil activists ,Center for Policy alternatives and a member of Elections Commission against Dissolving Parliament .

All petitions have named President,Newly appointed Premier and Election Commission as respondents.

The Petitions filed by majoroty of political patties ,Civil activists ,A member Of Elections Commission ,Civil organization's have requested the Court to issue an order srating The dissolvement of Parliament is illegal and issue an order to abolish the president's Gazette Notification.

The Tribunal Judge Panel Comprising of Chief Justice Nalin Perera, Judges Prasanna Jayawardana and Priyantha Jayawardana had taken into consideration the Petitions from 2 p.m. today  .

Although Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has requested the court to provide another date to give  necessary details before court  regarding the petitions behalf of the Government   ,Three Member  Judge Panel has decided to call explanations regarding  petitions from today .

However after producing explanations by the lawyers behalf of petitioners Three member Judge Panel has decided to postpone the hearing of petitions until 10 a.m tomorrow (13).

Attorney General is due to provide explanations to the court tomorrow regarding the petitions behalf of the Government. The verdict regarding the Petitions filed at Supreme Court expected to be delivered by tomorrow .

During the hearing 10 petitions out of 13 petitions filed had been considered by the Three member Judge Panel today .

A large number of Parliamentarians, their supporters ,Local and Foreign media personal. ,representative of the United Nations office in Colombo and Foreign Embassy Officials had arrived  at Supreme Court to witness the hearing of petitions today .

UN Secretary General Urged Sri Lankan Leaders To Respect Democratic Institutions

United Nations Secretary General
Antonio Guterres  has again requested Sri Lankan leaders to respect Democratic institutions and process  and solve the present political conflict through a legal process .

UN Secretary General has issued a statement earlier urging the Sri Lankan President to convene the Prorogued Parliament soon and held a telephone conversation in this regard with President Sirisena on 01st of Nobember .

It is important to restore democracy and protecting People's rights when solving problems UN Secretary General has said.

President Has Said There Were Two Reasons Led Him To Dissolve Parliament During His Address To Nation

President Maithripala Sirisena has
revealed fixing Rs.100 to 500 million for a MP to get a majority of Support in Parliament and biased behaviour of Speaker led him to dissolve Parliament and calling a fresh election last friday (09) during his  address to the  Nation  last night (11).

The dissolved Parliament was the most corrupted in the history he has said .

There's no Parliamentary tradition as such to go for a vote to prove parliamentary majority after appointing a New Premier and even parliamentary standing orders it's not included President has stressed.

All MP's should have handed over their official vehicles to Ministry Secretaries and if not will take legal action against them. if the Parliament Is  convened on 14 th of November there will be a  bAth.  I am requesting the Public to help to conduct a peaceful election under the law "he has further said. 

Leaders Of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress And All Ceylon People's Congress To File Fundamental Cases At Supreme Court Against Dissolvement Of Parliament

Rauf Hakeem and leader of All Ceylon People's Congress  Rishsd Baduideen are   due to  file fundamental rights  cases  at Supreme Court today (12)against the dissolvement of Parliament .

The two Party leaders along with their Party MP's had gone to Mecca last week on piligrimsge and soon after the dissolvement of Parliament they have returned to the country yesterday  (11).

Both Party leaders have stated the appointment of former President Mahinda Rajapakshe as New premier and the dissolvement of Parliament were  unonstitutional .
