Eight Prison Officers Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Clash With A Group Of Female Prisoners At Welikada Prison

Eight Prison Officers attached to the
Welikada Prison had been injured and hospitalized after clashing with Female Prison inmates of the Prison this evening  (20)when attempting to prevent a protest campaign launched by a group of female Prison inmates.

Around 52 female Prisoners involved in the protest campaign and clash were transferred to another Prison it has been revealed.

The clash between Prison Officers and Female prison inmates had occurred when a group of female Prisoners launched a protest campaign in Prison and roof top of the prison building. The Group of female Prisoners has launched the protest campaign against transferring anither group of female Prisoners involved in Drug Smuggling to another Prison.

During the clash three female Prisoners were also Inured.

This is the second protest campaign launched by Female prison inmates at Welikada Prison since last week.

Meanwhile a group of relatives of some prisoners attached to Welikada Prison had complaint to the Borelle Police that Prison Officers had attacked the prison inmates.

Four Persons Injured Due To A Road Accident In Anamaduwa

Four Persons Have been injured two of
them critically after the Motor Car they were travelling in veering off the road at Thalgaswewa area in Anamaduwa this evening (20).

The injured were admitted to Puttalam Base Hospital for treatment .Motor car was severely damaged due to the incident.

Anamaduwa Police are conducting an investigations over the incident.

Former President Mahinda Rajapakshe Cannot Contest For A Third term

Former President Mahinda Rajapakshe cannot contest for presidency for a third term according to the Sri Lankan Constitution  according to the Minister Of Higher Education Wijedasa Rajapakkkshe .

It has been clearly stated in the 19  th Constitutionl Amendment 
 he  has stated.

As the Joint opposition MP's making statements that they will  seek the opinion of the Supreme Court on whether the Former President Rajapakshe can contest for a third term of Presidency , Minister has said only the current President can seek opinion of the Supreme Court in this regard.
