Around Nine Families In Nuwara-Eliya Have Been Evacuated Due To A Landslide Risk

Around nine families located in

Nuwara-Eliya -Kirimatiyana area have been evacuated from their houses and moved to safe places due to a Landslide risk in the area according to the Disaster Management Center.

The evacuated families have been moved to a nearby camp the Center has stated.

Heavy showers are being experienced in Western slope areas of Central hills at present  it has been reported. .

A Soil Mound Collapsed In To The Upper Kotmale Reservoir

A Soil Mound had  collapsed in to the Upper Kotmale Reservoir from Wanigasekarapura area at Thalawakale as  a result of the heavy showers prevailing in the area at present  it has been reported.

The Soil Mound located under a group of houses in Wanigasekarapura area had collapsed in to the Reservoir. As a result a Landslide risk likely to  occurr in the village nearby according to reports.

Roof Top Protest Campaign Of Female Prisoners Has Called Off

attached to Welikada Prison who had launched a protest campaign on the roof top of the Welikada Prison building since last morning (13 )has called off their protest shortwhile ago after discussions held with Minister Of Justice and Prison Reforms Thalatha Atukorale at the Ministry.

Five protesters had participated for the discussions and after the Minister had agreed to look in to the demands of Female Prison inmates and provide solutions in future  the protest was called off it has been reported.

Security In And Around Welikada Prison Strengthened

Prison Authorities have strengthened
the security within Welikada Prison premises and roads around the prison including Seevali Road and Wanathamulla after recovering 15 Narcotic parcels thrown in to prison premises yesterday (13).

Meanwhile some Prison inmates inside the Welikada Prison also refrained from entering to Wards in the prison as a support to the roof top protest launched by a group of Female prison inmates  it has Been reported

The Ministry Of Justice and Prison Reforms had begun an investigation to find out how a group of Female  prison inmates managed to go to the roof top of the prison building and stage a protest there.

A New Post Master General Has Been Appointed

Polonnaruwa District Secretary Ranjith Ariyaratne has been appointed as the New Post Master General with effect from today (14).

He has been appointed as the New Post Master General after the Post became vacant as a result of transferring the former Post Master General D. L.P Rohana Abeyratne to the Presidential Secretariat over his unsuccessful handling of the recent Postal strike .

Five Roof Top Prison Inmate Protestors Arrived At The Ministry Of Justice For Talks -Prison Inmate Protest Continues For The Second Day

As the roof top protest campaign launched by a group of female prison inmates attached to Welikada Prison continues today  (14) for the second day  it self Prison Authorities have completely suspended bringing food for the inmates of the prison with effect from today after finding around 15 Narcotic parcels thrown inside the prison premises by an unidentified persons yesterday (13).

Around 30 female prison inmates had began the protest campaign on the roof top of Welikada Prison building since  last morning (13)by demanding solutions for few demands of them including speeding up their court cases ,Allow their relatives to bring food for them and increased facilities in prison.

However the Secretary to the Ministry of Prison Reforms and Justice Mangala Adhikari has stated that if the Protesting Prison inmates are willing to attend talks by suspending their protest she will send two Ministry Officials to negotiate with them on their demands.

Meanwhile it has been reported that five protesting Prison inmates had arrived at the Ministry this evening for the talks over their demands.

Meanwhile four female prison inmates injured during a clash occurred with few of the protesting Inmates yesterday are still receiving treatment at Prisons Hospital it has been reported.
