Four Persons Including An Army Doctor And Two Captains Were Arrested Over Gang Raping A Female Nurse

Narahenpita Police have arrested four persons

including a Army doctor,Two Army captains and an Engineer over gang raping of a young female nurse attached to a private hospital in Narahenpita.

The suspects had gang raped the female nurse in four occassions since 2016 and it was done as per the instructions of the former lover of the nurse who is a doctor attached to the Army according to the complaint made by the victim to the Narahenpita Police.

The gang rape was done after the nurse stopped the love affair she had with the Army doctor as she found that the doctor is a married man it has been revealed.

Two of the suspects arrested over the gang rape incident were remanded until 16th of february after being produced before the Hulftsdorf Magistrate Court.

A 17 Year Old Youth Was Drowned In Polathumodara River

A 17 year old youth has drowned and killed while
bathing in Polathumodara River in galle last evening (13).

The deceased who sat for the G.C.E Ordinary Level examination held last december has drowned while bathing in the river with few of his friends.He was a resident of Kosgahahena area.

Few persons had earlier drowned in the same river area where the youth was drowned due not displaying any warning board near the river according to the residents.

UPFA Also Requested President To Give Permission To Form A New Government

While the ruling United National Party(UNP) is
preparing to form a unitary government after the election defeat ,United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA)which is an allied party of the current national government has today (14) requested the permission from President Maithripala Sirisena to form a govetnment with a Prime Minister appointed from Sri Lanka Freedom Party chaired by president.

This request was made by the General Secretary of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance Mahinda Amaraweera and the national organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Thilanga Sumathipala during a meeting held today with the president sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

During the meeting the UPFA Parluamentarians had stated that they will submit a letter to the president within next two days with the support of more than 113 MP's which is the majority of 225 member Sri Lankan parliament .President who had earlier accepted the UNP 's decision  to form a unitary government by the party had also accepted  the request made by UPFA.

It has been believed that the senior SLFP Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva tipped to be appointed as the Prime Minister if the UPFA formed a new government.The Joint Opposition parliamentary group belinging to the Sri Lanka Podu jana peramuna led by former president Mahinda Rajapakshe had agreed to give a conditional support to the UPFA if the party form a new government it has been reported.The podujana peramuna's condition made to the UPFA to support the new government  is to hold a fresh parliamentary election according to reports.

However UPFA along with SLFP had suffered the most humiliated defeat at the last local government more than the UNP.

Meanwhile UNP Parliamenrary group too met with Prime Minister Ranil Wikeamasinghe at the Temple Trees to discuss the future of the current government.

Former Retired DIG Prasanna Nanayakkare Was Arrested Over Concealing Evidence Of Late Sunday Leader Editor's Murder

The Criminal Investigations Department(CID) had arrested the retired former Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police(DIG) Prasanna Nanayakkare last night(13) over concealing evidence of the murder of late Sunday Leader Newspaper Editor Lasnatha Wikramathnge.

He is due to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court today(14).

The former Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wikramathunge was killed at Aththidiya area,Rathmalana  on 08th of January 2009 while on his way to office.
