Sri Lanka Peoples Front Won 239 Out Of 342 Local Councils In Local Government Election

The newly formed Sri Lanka Peoples Front had won
239 councils out of 342 Urban,Municipal and Pradeshiya Sabha council which the election was held yesterday (10) according to the latest results.

The Governing United National Party had won 42 councils and main opposition Tamil National Alliance won 38 North and East councils.Sri Lanka Freedom Party led by President Maithripala Sirisena and United Peoples Freedom Alliance won 07 councils.

Meanwhile United Peoples Freedom Alliance who secured 04 seats in Hambanthota Municipal Council had decided to take the power of the Council won by United National Party with 09 seats ,by colliding with Sri Lanka Peoples Front which received 07 council seats.Due to this situation United National Party is at risk for loosing the Council which is the only Council the party had won in Hambanthota in this election.

The salient festure of today's events is after won majority of the councils MP' s belongs to Sri Lanka Peoples Front like Udaya Gammanpila,Wimal Weerawansha ,Pavithra Wanniarachchi,Johnston Fernando,G.L Pieris ,Namal Rajapakshe and other MP' s who were Ministers during previous regime and charged over fraud and corruption by present government urged the government to resign after the defeat in local government election.

United National Party Decided To Carry On Present National Government Until 2020- Also To Make Strong Decisions On Fraud And Corruption And Several Issues Soon

One of the major parties in present National
Government chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena ,United National Party (UNP)has decided to carry on the present national government until 2020 during a meeting held among senior leaders of the UNP at Temple Trees this noon(11) under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe .

The party had informed this decision to  leaders of other parties attached to the United National Front and due to inform this to other party leaders of the National Government it has been announced.

To inform this decision Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe is scheduled to meet President this evening .

During the meeting held today the senior leaders of UNP had decided to make strong decisions during next few days over fraud and corruption, Unemployment, and Rising cost of living  as the local government election results had given a clear message to the government to fulfill election promises related to these issues.

Meanwhile leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna (JVP) too had stated that the majority of the people who voted in this election had rejected government over not fullfiling promises made during presidential Election in 2015.


President To Make A Major Change In The Government After The Election Defeat

President Maithripala had stated that  he is expecting
to make a major change during next few days during the meeting held with Ministers,Deputy Ministers and State Ministers representing His party the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today (11)at president's house in the wake of the election defeat faced by the party at yesterday's local government elections.

President had recalled all the SLFP ministers to Colombo to discuss the situation arises after the election which the newly forned Sri Lanka Peoples Front won majority of the councils in 19 Districts.

During the meeting the SLFP Ministers had requested the Presifent to negotiate will all other parties to form a coalition or a national government for remaining years of present government.

Rosy Senanayake To Be Appointed As First Female Mayor Of Colombo

Former state minister Rosy Senanayake has been
elected as the first female mayor of Sri Lanka's biggest Municipal Council the Colombo Municipal Council as the governing United National Party(UNP) which she represented  had won the Municipal Council with 131,353 votes .

After the result was announced the new Colombo Mayor to be appointed has stated that she will work for the betterment of people and make the Colombo Municipal Council the best council among other Municipal Councils.All together UNP had secured 60 seats of the council .

The Sri Lanka Peoples Front had received 23 seats ,United Peoples Freedom Alliance received 12 seats  ,United Progressive Alliance secured 10 seats and Peoples Liberation Front received 06 seats in the Colombo Municipal Council.
