More Than 80% Of The Total Land Area In Badulle Is At Risk Of Landslides

Related imageAccording a latest survey carried out  by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) more than 80% of the total land area in Badulla is at risk of Landslides .

This proved through a Map survey conducted since the year 2000 the NBRO has revealed during a meeting held at Badulla District Secretariat yesterday(17).

Two Youth Have Drowned While Bathing In Sea Are Of Rathmalana

Image result for drownedA teenager and a youth have drowned after drifting away with strong sea waves while bathing in the sea area at Rathmalana yesterday(17) it has been revealed.

The bodies of the two who are of the ages 16 and 26 year old  had been recovered near the beach at Railway station in Rathmalana today(18).

The deceased have drowned while bathing with another friend .Police and Navy along with the resident of the area had launched the search operation to recover the bodies of them.

A Sudden Fire Erupted In A Reserve In Hatton Still Spreading

A sudden fire had been erupted in a Cultivation Reserve in Hatton near a Ruwanpura Mahaweli Village last night(17) and it  still spreading according to reports.

The fire now spreading towards the Roasalla area of Upcountry railway line and up to now steps have not  been  taken to douse the fire  it has been revealed.

Authorities believe that a fire lit by some persons or a person under the dry weather condition  prevails in there at the moment may have caused the fire .

In the reserve  a large number of endangered species like leopards,rabbits,deer,hedgehogs and wild boars as well as special varieties of birds owed to the mountains  lives in it has been reported.

Eleven Females Including Actress Samanali Fonseka Filed A Petition At Court Against Withdrawal Of Gazette Notifications On Liquor

Eleven women including a so call actress Samanali
Fonseka had filed a fundamental rights petition at Supreme Court yesterday (17)against the withdrawal of two gazette notifications issued by Finanace Ministry regarding removing the ban imposed on local women to purchase liquor,working in liquor bars and selling of liquor and extending business hours of opening the Bars in the country .

The petition has stated that by withdrawing the gazette notifications it violated the equal rights of women.The petition has naned a group of persons including Finance Minister and Attorney General as defendents .
