A Traffic In Southern Expressway Occurred Due To An Accident This Morning Has Been Cleared

A container truck travelling from Matara  to Colombo
had crashed in to the  protective fence of Southern Expressway this morning (06) between Kokmaduwa and Imaduwa areas caused heavy traffic in the area.

Due to the accident the lane to Kottawa on the Expressway had been blocked early this morning.

However the road is now cleared for traffic after removal of the Container it has been announced.

A Group Of Fishermen Arrested Over Going Fishing From Mannar Despite Weather Warnings Released After Strictly Warning Them

Mannar District Court had strictly warned and
released around 25 Fishermen of Mannar area who went to sea yesterday (05)for fishing activities despite the repeated requests made by   the Meteorology Department to avoid fishing activities these days due to the bad weather.

Navy had arrested the group of fishermen who went to sea from Mannar and produced before the Mannar District court.

Mannar District Court judge A.J Alexraja had released the group of fishermen by  strictly warned them after the lawyer representing behalf of the fishermen had requested the Judge to release them as they didnt go to deep sea area and only involved in fishing near the coastal area.

Three Persons Were Arrested With More Than Four Grammes Of Heroin

Police have arrested three persons with four grammes

and one hundred eighty five mili grammes of Heroin in their possession near a Laundry at Nikaweratiya area.

The suspects are youth residents of Galagedara,Nikaweratiya and Embalagodayagama areas.

The estimated value of the haul of Heroin taken in to custody in possession of the suspects is around Rs.50,000 according to Police.

A Former Inland Revanue Officer Was Sentenced A 16 Year Rigorous Imprisonment Over Accepting A Bribe

Colombo High Court has today(05) sentenced a former Inland Revenue Officer who had accepted a Rs.25,000 from a Businessman as a bribe to count the tax money the Businessman need  to pay lesser then the required amount, a 16 year rigorous imprisonment .

The Inland Revenue Officer was sentenced the Imprisonment over four charges including accepting of a Rs.25,000 as a bribe between 30th of September to 06th of October 2011 as per the case filed against him by the Bribery Commission.

Colombo High  Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi had also ordered the accused to pay the value of the bribe  he had taken  as a fine.
