South Asia Satellite Which Will Provide Support To SAARC Countries In Many Fields Had Been Successfully Launched

The South Asia Satellite which will be provided
support to SAARC (South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation) countries including Sri Lanka in many fields had been successfully launched by the Indian Space Research Organization,satish dawan space cebter  from Sriharikota,India yesterday (05).

 Accordingly the new Satellite will touch the lives of people in India,Sri Lanka ,Bangladesh,Afganisthan,Bhutan,Nepal and Maldives in the fields of telecommunication and broadcasting,tele medicine,e-governance,tele education,tele-transmission,disaster response,banking/ATM Services,Cellular back haul,metereology data transmission,networking of academic and research institutes and space technology applications.

Following the launch Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi was joined a live video conference with other leaders in the SAARC Region including Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena.


ASP In Jaffna Was Killed Due To A Motorcycle Collision

A 33 year old Assistant Superintendent Of
Police(ASP)attached to Chavakachcheri Police was killed after his Motorcycle colliding with another Motorcycle in  illawali,Jaffna yesterday (05).

The critically injured ASP had succumbed to his injuries after been hospitalized according to reports.

Mirihana Police Raided A Brothel House In Boralesgamuwa And Arrested Seven Young Females

Police officers attached to Anti Fraud Unit of Mirihana
have raided a brothel house on the pretext of an Ayurveda Massage Center (SPA) in papiliyana road, Boralesgamuw a and arrested seven unmarried and married females works there as prostitutes and the Manager of the place a former Intelligance Officer of Sri Lanka Army.

The Police officers have raided the brothel house after obtained a search warrent from Gangodawila Magistrate Court.

The arrested females had been identified as residents of Rathmalana,Galle,Negambo,Matara and Galle areas.


Island Wide Token Strike Of Govt.Docs,Engine Drivers/Rail Guards And Teachers- Only Some Services Have Been Paralyzed

Due to the island wide one day token strike launched
by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA)in collaboration with other trade unions reptresenting Engine Drivers ,Rail Guards and teachers since this morning (05) over three demands including publicizing Malabe Private Medical Collage ,(SAITM) clinics of outdoor patients departments(OPD)  in government hospitals have  been paralyzed and some of the  train services were canceled according to the sources.

Surgeries and other indoor patient care services of Government Hospitals functioning normally as medical specialists didnt join the strike hospital sources have revealed.

In Railway sector too some of the Engine Drivers and Rail Guards have  participated in the strike and some didnt.As a result of this some of the routine train services were cancelled and some were operated as usual it has been reported.

However almost all  the postal train services scheduled for tonight are being cancelled due to the strike according to Railway Department.

Meanwhile although government teachers unions have also announced that the teachers will join  this strike only 20% of the teachers participated in the strike which did not affect school services according to the Ministry Of Education.

An Engine Driver attached to the train running from Colombo to Batticaloa had stepped down and left at Mahawa Railway Station and a Rail Guard attached to a train running from Colombo to Rambukkane stepped down at Dematagoda during todays strike.However both trains were operated by using an extra personal according to Railway Authorities.

The token strike is due to conclude at 8 a.m tomorrow morning(06).
