A senior University Lecturer was killed after colliding

with a train in  between  Wellawatte-Bambalapitiya Railway line today (03) the Bambalapitiya Police have stated.

The deceased was identified as a 59 year old lecturer Priyantha Parakum Gunarathne,

Airport Customs Officers Have Arrested Three Persons With 70,000 Illegal Cigarette Sticks

Airport Customs have today(03) arrested three persons with 70,000 sticks of illegal Cigarettes in their possession at Katunayake,Bandaranaike International Airport.

The value of the stock of Cigarette Sticks arrested by Customs Officers is estimated as Rs.3.5 million it has been reported.

The suspects who are in the ages of 16,38 and 65 years were later released on a fine of Rs.250,000 according to the Customs.

Director Of FCID Transferred To Monragala Police Station

Police Headquarters have stated that the Director Of Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division(FCID) DIG (Deputy Inspector General Of Police) Aruna Premashantha has been transferred to Monaragala Police with effect from last week.

Assistant Superintendent Of Police (ASP) Pavithra Dayaratna assumed duties as an Acting Director of FCID on last Sunday(01) according to the Police Headquarters.

The former Director of FCID has been assumed his duties as DIG Monaragala on 29th of December.

Entry Road To Galle Road Closed Due To A Protest March

Due to a protest march organized by All Island Lottery Agents Association against the Government's decision to increase the prices of Lottery Tickets  the Entry road to Galle Road from Lotus Roundabout in Colombo has been closed this evening according to the Police.

A heavy traffic has been reported along the Lotus Roundabout due to the Protest March .

Four Shops Destroyed Due To A Fire In Maskeliya

Four Shops were completely destroyed due to a sudden fire erupted in Maskeliya Town(Upcountry) yesterday(02).

An Electrical Appliances Outlet was among the shops that destroyed due to the fire according to Police.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.
