Sri Lanka Navy Have Sold Nine Small Petrol Crafts To Nigeria For US Dollars 4.2 Million

Sri Lanka Navy have sold Nine small metro crafts including six Arrow Boats and three inshore petrol crafts worth US Dollars 4.2 million to the Nigerian Government according to Sri Lanka Navy.

The petrol crafts built by the inshore petrol crafts project of Sri Lanka Navy at Welisara have been officially handed over to the Nigerian Ambassador to Sri Lanka S.U Ahmed and other dignitaries of the Embassy the Sri Lanka Navy has stated.

Sri Lanka Navy is expected to utilize the US Dollar 4.2 million earned through selling nine petrol crafts to Nigeria to upgrade it's  inshore petrol craft project at Welisara and to lift the standard of the working station.

Navy is due to engaged in the assignment to build petrol crafts continuously as it will help to boost the Sri Lanka's economy through an export earnings it has been reported.

State Minister Of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena Requested The President To Avoid Officials Flying From Business Class As A Part Of Reducing Budget Deficit

The Sate Minister Of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena has requested the President Maithripala Sirisena to avoid Government Officials from flying Business Class of National Carrier to cut the unnecessary expenditure as a part of the Government's effort to reduce the rising budget deficit.

State Minister Abeywardena has also asked the President Sirisena to personally intervene to implemet a strong fiscal management system in the country and directed all government ministers and officials to monitor financial management of their ministries.

Government has recently increased the Value Added Tax(VAT) of certain goods and services by 4%  to increase the government revenue by Rs.100 billion in 2016 in response to repeated requests from International Monetary Fund(IMF).

Two Female Nursing Officers Attached To Halawatha Hospital Got Injured And Admitted To Same Hospital Due To A Brawl Between Them

Due to a brawl between two female nursing officers attached to Halawatha Base Hospital today(07) both of them got injured and admitted to the same hospital for treatment it has been reported.

A Chief Nursing Officer and a Special Grade Nursing Officer(Matron) of the Halawatha Hospital were involved in this brawl over a dispute risen when  recruiting nurses for the duty the Hospital Sources have stated.

The Hospital Authorities and Halawatha Police are conducting two separate inquiries on the incident sources further added.




Four Sluice Gates Of Udawalawe Reservoir Have Been Opened Due To The Rising Water Levels

Due to the rising water level in Udawalawa Reservoir four sluice gates of the reservoir have been opened four feet each with immediate effect according to Disaster Management Center(DMC) of Ratnapura District.

As  heavy showers prevailed in Udawalawe Area yesterday(06) the water level of the Udawalawe Reservoir has risen the Disaster Management Center has stated.

The DMC has advised the public to be on alert of the water level of Udawalawe Reservoir when using it due to the opening of sluice gates.

A Total Of 423 Ilegal Firearms Were Handed Over To The Authorities During An Amnesty Period Declared By Defense Ministry

A total of 423 illegal firearms were handed over to the authorities during the Amnesty Period declared by Ministry Of Defense from 25th of April to 06th of May(yesterday)  according to Ministry Sources.

The majority of illegal firearms numbering over 100 were handed over in  Gampaha District (In Western Province) .

During the Amnesty Period which ended yesterday illegal weapons were handed over to the nearest District Secretary Offices,Divisional Secretariats and Police Stations the sources have stated.
