Parliament Has Approved A Proposal To Increase The Maximum Limit Of Loan Government Can Borrow Through Treasury Bills From Rs.400 Billion

The Parliament has today(20) approved a proposal to increase the maximum limit of loan government can borrow through issuing  of Treasury Bills from  Rs.400 billion.

As parliament has approved the proposal submitted by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake the maximum limit of loan government can borrow through issuing  Treasury Bills has been increased to Rs.1250 Billion from Rs.850 Billion.

The same proposal submitted by this government during it's 100 day Programme prior to the General Election held in August has been defeated at the Parliament then.

Sri Lanka Customs Department Has Decided To Send The Three Customs Officers Remanded Over Accepting Rs.125 Million Bribe On Compulsory Leave

The Sri Lanka Customs Department has decided to send the  three high rank Customs Officers who were remanded over accepting Rs.125 Million as a bribe on compulsory leave.

The decision to send the three customs officers on compulsory leave has been taken to pave the way for an inquiry to be conducted by Sri Lanka Customs Department against those officers.

The Three high rank Customs Officers have been arrested by Bribery Commission last week while accepting Rs.125 million as a bribe from a foreign company representatives.The suspects were remanded until 30th of October after been produced before the court.

The Supreme Court has today(20) issued a notice to Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe to appear before the court on 12th of November.

The Supreme Court Judge Rohini Marasinghe has issued the notice to Justice Minister to inquire and inform the court on whether the Sri Lankan Court Judges are giving severe punishment for minor offences after taken into consideration a petition filed on this regard.

The petition filed at Supreme Court has alleged that some magistrates have been ordered 34 -66 year imprisonment for those who found guilty for small offences."Four Year Imprisonment is enough for those charged against small offences"Supreme Court Judge has stressed.
