CID Arrested Two Cricket Secretariat Employees Selling World Cup Tickets For Black Market Prices

The Colombo Crimes Division(CID)  today arrested two employees attached to the Sri Lankan World Cup Cricket Secretariat while they are engaged in selling Rs.50 worth World Cup tickets issue for the forth coming Cricket Match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan for  black market prices  Ranging Rs.1300 and Rs.1500.

The arrested Cricket Secretariat Employees are currently been questioning by the CID  under the detention orders and due to be produced before the court soon.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan World Cup Cricket Secretariat Today has announced that the all tickets for the World Cup Cricket Matches Played in Sri Lanka were sold out,

Lanka Hospital Confirmed Assaulted MP Upeksha Admitted For A Surgery


Lanka  Hospitals(formally Apollo Hospital) has today (24) confirmed that the assaulted Popular Actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali(Paba)  has transferred to the Hospital from Jayawardanapura Hospital to under go a Plastic Surgery.According to the Hospital Sources it's not a major surgery and MP Upeksha also underwent MRI Scan test two days ago at the Lanka Hospital.


She is receiving hospital treatment for facial and eye injuries since last Wednesday(16th) following the assault by her husband.

Government To Send A Charter Plane To Bring Back 418 Sri Lankans Stranded In Libya

Few hours After announcing that a Ship has sent to the Middle East to evacuate Sri Lankan stranded there due to the political unrest in several Arab countries, Government now decided to send a charter plane to Libya to evacuate 418 Sri Lankan workers stranded there due to the popular uprising there

Meanwhile the Ministry Of External Affairs is constantly in touch with the Libyan Mission in Colombo regarding the situation of Sri Lankans reside in that country it has been reported.

Assaulted MP Upeksha Swarnamali(PABA)Transferred To A Private Hospital To Undergo A Plastic Surgery


Assaulted Popular Local Actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali has been  transferred to Lanka Hospitals(PVT) formally the Apollo Hospital   in Narahenpita -Colombo today(23) from the Sri  Jayawardenapura Hospital in Kotte to undergo  a Plastic Surgery  according to the Hospital Sources.Doctors at the Jayawardenapura Hospital who treated her for facial injuries had reported  as approved the Plastic Surgery as her wish the sources further added.

MP Upeksha who is widely popular  here as "Paba"was severely assaulted by her husband Mahesh Chaminda on 15th of February following a family dispute and admitted to the Jayawardenapura Hospital by the Ministerial Security Personal  where she was treated for facial and eye injuries.She has reported as having  few bruises in her body too.She received treatment under the supervision of a Neuro Specialist of the Jayawardenapura Hospital.

Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry Ensured The Security Of Sri Lankans In Libya And Egypt

The Ministry of External Affairs has stated today that the security and safety of the Sri Lankans lives in the troubled Libya and Egypt are ensured and arrangements can make  to evacuate  them if need arise.

According to Ministry there are around 1200 Sri Lankan Workers reside in Libya alone.

National World Cup Cricket Song Banned Under The Instructions Of President


The World Cup Song accepted as the National World Cup Cricket Song by the local authorities has been banned by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha due to it's poor taste and  insulation against  other Cricketing Nations including of Australia and New Zealand .

The song which was sung by an upcoming singer and sponsored by one of the main sponsors of the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team was broadcast/telecast continuously through the State owned Sri Lanka Broadcasting and Television Corporations  and Private Radio and T.V Channals as well in both Sinhalese and Tamil Languages. The  song's lyrics  insults the Australian Cricket Team captained by Rickey Ponting will end up as Bird Food and the New Zealender's who are still mourning for the earthquake occurred in their country should have their jaws broken.

Several Expert local artistes too criticized the lyrics of this so called Cricket Song during past weeks  as it appeals Local Cricket Fans to come and eat chutney and insulting other Cricketing Nations instead of boosting the morale of  Sri Lankan Cricketers and fans.

 It has been learn t that the President also blamed the authorities who allowed the insulting lyrics.Sri Lanka along with neighboring  India and Bangladesh hosting the ongoing 10th ICC World Cup Cricket Tournament



Sri Lanka's First State Owned Eye Bank To Be Inaugurate Tomorrow



Sri Lanka's First  State Owned Eye Bank is scheduled to be inaugurate by the President Mahinda Rajapaksha on tomorrow(24) evening.The National Eye Bank will cater the need of Eye Cornea for Cornea transplant patients throughout the Island.

Around Rs.30 Million has been spent to build the National Eye Bank which was funded by the Lee Foundation in  Singapore.Around 30 Eye Corneas have already stored in the newly built Eye Bank while 500 Eye patients needed  eye corneas to get transplanted.

Indian Tamil Actor Vijay Said Sri Lanka Should Be Wiped Off The World Map If Attacks On Indian Fishermen Continues


Tamil Film Actor Ilayathalapathy Vijay said during a protest campaign held in Nagapattinam,Tamil Nadu  regarding Indo Sri Lanka Fishermen Issue that the Sri Lanka Should Be Wiped Off  the World Map if the Sri Lankan Navy continues attacking South  Indian Fishermen.

Tamil Nadu Actor's participation to the protest campaign marked his entry to the Politics and he accused the both Central and the Tamil Nadu State Governments not doing anything on the attacks against South Indian Fishermen.He further added that as he was raised on Tiger's Milk he will fight for the rights of Tamil People.

Earlier Actress turned Politician and former Tamil Nadu  Chief Minister Jayalaitha Jayaram too condemned attacks and the arrests against the South Indian Fishermen who illegally entered in to Sri Lankan Waters and urged the Central Government to warned Sri Lankan Leaders on the issue.

Sri Lankans Smoked 6470 Million Cigerattes And Beedis In 2009

Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Geethanjana Gunewardena has said in Parliament today that the Sri Lankans had smoked 4200 million Cigarettes and 2270 million "Beedi"(a kind of local cigarette made from tobacco) in the year 2009.

He has revealed these facts by responding to a question raised by the opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake.Deputy Finance Minister has also said that the total earned tax revanue of the government from Cigarettes and Beedi in the the year 2009 was Rs.37,800 million.

World Bank Specialists Show The Way To Reduce Heart Mortality Rate Amongst Sri Lankans

The Health Specialists attached to the World Bank office in Colombo have stated that during next 10 years Sri Lanka will be able to reduced mortality rate of heart patients amongst the age group of 18-74 by 23 percent through different interventions.This mortality reduction rate in numbers is  around 38,000 according to the specialists.

This goal of reducing mortality of heart patients withing next 10 years can be achieved through population based reduction of risky factors and clinical based interventions including drugs specialists said.


Addressing a press briefing in Colombo yesterday the World Bank specialists said that the spreading of non communicable diseases(NCD) are higher amongst the poor people in sri lanka due to lack of nutrition.The non communicable diseases like Heart Diseases,Cancers,Asthma are mostly seen amongst the poor people they stressed.

Three Tamil Nadu Politicos Arrived Here For The Funeral Of Prabhakeran's Mother Deported By SL Authorities-Chennai Police Arrested Them

Three Tamil Nadu Politicians including MP Thol Thirumavalavan were deported by the Sri Lankan authorities in wee hours of today soon after their arrival to Katunayaka Bandaranaike International Air Port in Colombo .These Politicians reported as arrived Sri Lanka to participate the funeral of the mother of  former LTTE Leader Valupillai Prabhakaren,Parvathi Ammal held this evening in Jaffna.


According to the Sri Lankan Immigration and Emigration Officials the three Tamil Nadu Politicians arrived the Island around 2 a.m this morning without informing on their visit to the Sri Lankan Authorities.

Meanwhile the three deported Tamil Nadu Politicians were arrested by Chennai Police this evening while they are protesting in front of the Sri Lankan Consulate in Chennai against denial of  their access to Sri Lanka to participate prabhakaren's mother's funeral foreign sources has said.

Husband Of Assaulted MP Upeksha Released On Bail After Produced Before The Court

The husband of  the assaulted popular Local Actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali ,Mahesh Chaminda had produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate Court this noon and released on personal and surety bail.The suspect who is accused for severely assaulted MP Upeksha on last week was released on Rs.100,000 worth Personal and Rs.2500 surety bail on condition that he should settled the personal differences having with his wife and re unite with her according to the sources.

While  allowing bail for the suspect additional magistrate had requested that both the suspect and his MP wife should appear before the court on 02nd of May 2011 for further proceeding of the assault case.

The suspect was produced before the court by Mirihana Police.

Meanwhile MP Upeksha is still receiving medical treatment at the Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital in Kotte for  facial and eye injuries she has received due to the assault

Jaffna Fishermen Protested In Front Of Indian Consulate

Over One Hundred Fishermen in Jaffna peninsula of the Northern Sri Lanka hold a protest campaign in front of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna against Indian Fishermen entering in to Sri Lankan waters.The fishermen who protests covered their eyes and mouth with a black ribbon and demanding that the Indian Fishermen should stop robbing their fish resources which can lead them to starvation.

Government Doctor's Union Requested Health Ministry To Inquire On Chief Minister's Misbehaviour Towards ICU Staff

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today has requested the Health Ministry to inquire on Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Mahipala Herath's alleged involvement of  disturbing the Medical Staff of Karpitiya Teaching Hospital ICU while they have been  engaged in saving the lives of two accident victims last week.

According to the Assistant Secretary of the GMOA Dr.Chandana Atapattu the Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa Province unnecessarily requested the permission to enter the ICU at the time these two patients were admitted to the hospital ICU around 11.30 p.m on 15th of February which was denied by the medical staff.After the incident the Chief Minister made a complaint to the Ministry Of Health against the ICU Medical Staff alleging their refusal..In a response Ministry of Health has sent a team of investigators to conduct an inquiry against the medical staff and they failed to proceed the inquiry further after the medical staff's refusal of  giving  any statements to the investigators on the incident.


Dr.Atapattu has said during a Press Briefing held in Colombo this noon that traditionally in any country no one even in the highest rank person of the country would allow to enter the ICU while medical staff is involved in life saving process of a patient."Therefore we urged the Health Ministry to inquire on the Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister's behavior instead of inquiring on medical staff's decision on not allowing the chief minister to enter the ICU that time which was seen as an unnecessary request" he further stressed.


Police Commenced Questioning MP Upeksha's Husband Who Surrendered This Evening

Mirihana Police is reported as questioning the husband of Local Actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali who had surrendered to the police this afternoon regarding the assault on his wife.The suspect Mahesh Chaminda a businessman from Piliyandala had surrendered to the Mirihana Police this evening  in the presence of his two lawyers.

Still it's not clear whether the suspect will be produced before the Magistrate Court soon  on assault charges.Meanwhile It has been reported that the  Police have obtained the medical reports on facial and eye injuries sustained by MP Upeksha following the assault.



Health Ministry To Black Listed The Contarctor Of The Kandy Hospital Theater Complex


The Ministry of Health has decided to Black List the contractor of the newly constructed Rs.175 million worth Theater Complex in Kandy Teaching Hospital for not completing the construction work by the scheduled time period.The construction work of the theater  complex was scheduled to be completed on the year 2009.

It has been reported that the same contractor had also delayed the construction work of the Theater Complex of Kalubowila Teaching Hospital in the Colombo Suburbs.


Meanwhile the Health Minister Maithrepala Sirisena has instructed his officials to black listed all Health Sector contractors who are not able to complete the construction work at the scheduled time period.

MP Upeksha's Husband Surrendered To The Police

The husband of the Popular Actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali, Mahesh Chaminda Walawugama who is charged for severely beating MP Upeksha is surrendered to Mirihana Police in Colombo short while ago after evading police arrest since last Wednesday.

MP Upeksha who is widely recognized here as "Paba"received facial and eye injuries following the assault.

Police has  requested the suspect several times to make a statement regarding the assaulting of his wife but he didn't appeared before the Police and reported as missing.MP Upeksha who is currently receiving treatment for an  injured eye at the Sri Jayawardenapaura Hospital in Kotte has stated in her statement to the police that her husband had beaten her last Tuesday following a family dispute.She is receiving treatment at a Paying Ward of the Hospital.

Ministry Of Health To Send Further Samples Of Suspected Killer Soft Drink For Inspection



The Ministry Of Health is due to send the samples of  arrested stock of  Soft Drink bottles belongs to the Soft Drink brand which caused a death of a 11 year old girl  to Government Analyst by tomorrow(21).The Soft Drink Bottle belongs to the above brand which is advertised as made from"Orange" caused the death of a 11 year old girl in Polonnaruwa District of the North Central Province on last Thursday and her mother too admitted to the Hospital in critical condition after drinking the Soft Drink.
 These samples of the suspected Brand of Soft Drink  will be send to the Government Analyst to find out whether  there are any harmful chemical or food flavor contained in the Soft Drink the Ministry Sources have said.The Soft Drink Bottle which caused the death of the girl had already sent to the Government Analyst for  inspection                                                                                                                                                  .

Meanwhile the Ministry Of Health under the instructions of Health Minister Maithrepala Sirisena has decided to conduct a workshop for all Soft Drink Manufacturers in the Island on how to maintain International Standards when making Soft Drinks for consumers.This Workshop is due to be held in Colombo during the coming week.

Sri Lanka Recorded Power Packed Win Over Canada In Their Inaugural World Cup Cricket Match

Sri Lanka recorded a power packed 210 run victory over minnows Canada in their inaugural World Cup Cricket match played at the Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium in Suriyawewa,Hambanthota today.Sri Lankan Team scored a mammoth 332 for 7 wickets in their 50 overs and as a reply Canadian Team all out for 122 runs in 36.5 overs.

 Sri Lankan Opener Thilakaratna Dilshan reached 5000th run in his One Day career during his innings of this match and Mahela Jaywardena scored fastest 100 runs in ICC World Cup Cricket Match from 81 balls with 9 fours and a six.

Prabhakaren's Mother Dies

Parvathi Ammal the mother of Former LTTE Rebel leader Valupillai Prabhakaren died this morning at the Valvitithurai Government Hospital after prolonged  illness.After the defeat of LTTE she and her late husband were reside in Panagoda Army Camp under the Military Care and after her husband died she went overseas to stay with her children for a short period.

However she later returned to Sri Lanka due to her illness and receiving treatment at the Valvitithurai Government Hospital since then.

Upeksha Still Receiving Medical Treatment

Popular Actress and MP Mrs.Upeksha Swarnamali who is admitted to Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital in Kotte is still receiving Medical Treatment for her injured eye after beaten by her husband over a domestic dispute hospital sources revealed today.MP Swarnamali was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday morning with facial,eye and body injuries .

Meanwhile her Husband Mahesh Chaminda who is the main suspect  in connection with  assaulting of  the MP is reported as  missing .

Government To Increased The Import Tax On Potatoes

The Government has decided to increase the Import Tax on Potatoes by Rs.20 per Killo Gramme with immediate effect.Earlier a Import Tax of Rs.10 imposed per a Killo Gramme of Potatoes.

 In the Local Market a Killo Gramme of Potatoes marketed  in various prices and the Price is expected to increased following the increasing of the Import Tax.

India Handed Over 21 Arrested Sri Lankan Fishermen To SL Authorities-Arrested Another 4 SL Fishermen

Indian Coast guards today handed over a group of 21 Sri Lankan Fishermen  who were held in Police Custody for entering in to Indian Waters illegally to the Sri Lankan Navy.The group of Sri Lankan Fishermen and 5 trawlers belongs to them were handed over to the Navy at the Indo Lanka Mari Time Boarder.

The release of Sri Lankan Fishermen taken place  following the release of 136 Indian Fishermen who were Imprisoned here.

Meanwhile in an another development 4 Sri Lankan Fishermen who are the residents in Guru Nagar in Jaffna  were arrested by the Indian Coast Guards after crossed in to Indian Waters and handed them to the Tamil Nadu police for questioning.

MP Swarnamali To Received Further Treatment-Reported As Suffering From An Eye Injury

Popular Actress and Government MP Upeksha Swarnamali who was beaten by her husband has now receiving  medical treatment for an eye injury following the assault according to the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital sources.Doctors have suspected that there may be an internal bleeding as a result of the black eye she said to be suffering with.

Earlier the Hospital Authorities has said that MP Swarnamali who is widely recognized here as :Paba"will be discharged from the Hospital soon as she is recovering from her facial wounds received during the assault.

Meanwhile the Police authorities has stated that her husband Mahesh Chaminda who is the main suspect of the assault case is still evading  Police arrest .

Carrying Certain Items Including Banners And Crackers To The World Cup Venues Banned

The World Cup Organizers banned carrying  certain Items including Banners and Crackers to the World Cup venues in the Indian Sub Continent it has been announced today.Besides Banners and Crackers carrying Placards,Musical Instruments,Glass Bottles,Laser Lights and Sharp Instruments too prohibited by the authorities Sri Lankan Inspector General Of Police Mahinda Balasuriya told during a press briefing held today.

The 10th ICC World Cup Cricket Tournament kicked off yesterday in Dhaka,Bangladesh with a colorful ceremony participated by the skippers of 14 National teams participating this years tournament.The Tournament will began tomorrow from a Match played between India and Bangladesh  at  Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur,Bangladesh.

136 Imprisoned Indian Fishermen Were Released

The 136 Indian Fishermen who were remanded for two weeks due to entered in to Sri Lankan waters illegally were released by the court this evening following the bi lateral discussions held between Sri Lankan and Indian authorities.

Under the agreement reached during the discussions a group of Sri Lankan Fishermen who were held by the Indian authorities  alleging that they entered the Indian waters illegally too due to be released soon.The group of Indian Fishermen freed by the Court today left Sri Lanka to their homes in Tamil Nadu.

Ministry Of Health Banned A Orange Based Soft Drink At Local Market After The Death Of A Girl

Ministry Of Health has temporarily banned the production,distribution and sale  of the "Orange" based Soft Drink which caused  a death of a 11 year old girl  in Polonnaruwa District of the North Central Province after drinking it .The Child died while admitting to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital yesterday and her mother who also drank the  soft drink was admitted to the Hospital in serious condition.

The Father of the girl who is an army officer bought the Soft Drink Bottle from a shop at Vavuniya in the Northern Sri Lanka while on his way to home at Polonnaruwa District it has been revealed.

After conducting an preliminary investigations the Food Control Unit of the Ministry of Health has  stated that the Soft Drink Bottle drank by the deceased girl was an expired one and suspect that a content in the soft drink may have caused her death.In the view of the preliminary investigation results Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Ravindra Ruberu has ordered the Soft Drink Manufacturer to stop production,distribution and sale of the suspected soft drink till receiving the government analyst's report.The soft drink manufacturer today closed their manufacturing plant in Colombo after receiving the orders of the Ministry.

Ministry Of Health has sent the sample of  soft drink drank by the deceased girl and her mother to the government analyst this morning to find the cause of the death.

Meanwhile under the instructions of the Ministry of Health the chief public health inspector of the vavuniya district banned the sale of above soft drink  within the district with immediate effect.Ministry of Health has also instructed all Public Health Inspectors island wide through a special circular to ban selling of the suspected orange based soft drink in  local market and arrest the stock which are in production at  manufacturing plant of the soft drink manufacturer.

The Facial Injuries Recieved By Popular Actress And MP Upeksha Not Serious-Hospital Sources

 The Injuries received by the Popular Actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali are not serious and she will be discharged soon from the Hospital  the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital sources said this evening.MP Swarnamali received injuries to her face and eyes and she also underwent a CT Scan test yesterday according
the sources.


The Popular Actress and MP Swaenamali    widely recognized here as "Paba" was admitted to the Jayawardenapura Hospital in Kotte yesterday morning following an assault by her husband at home.Police sources has said that although she has made an official complaint that she had received facial injuries due to the assault to W omen's Division of the Mirihana Police,  her husband still not turned up to make a comment to the police even though he has been requested to do so.

MP Swarnamali has also given a statement to the Police  regarding the assault  after she was admitted to the Hospital.

Sri Lankan Police Arrested Another 24 Indian Fishermen Entered In To Sri Lankan Waters

Sri Lankan Police have arrested another 24 Indian Fishermen who were illegally entered in to Sri Lankan waters a day after arresting a group of 112 Indian Fishermen who done the same act .The latest arrest was made after local fishermen apprehended them along with their seven boats and 
handed over them to the police in Illawalai Police in Northern Jaffna.

A group of 112 Indian Fishermen who entered the Sri Lankan Waters for fishing Illegally  were apprehended by the local fisherman on Tuesday and handed over them to the Point Pedro Police in Northern Sri Lanka.They were later jailed for two weeks by the  local district court along with their trawlers.

There is a sharp increase of the  number of Indian Fishermen entering to Sri Lankan Waters from Tamil Nadu since few weeks back and India last month accused that the Sri Lankan Navy killed two of their fishermen.















Local District Court Sentenced A Two Week Imprisonment For Arrested Indian Fishermen

Local District Court today (16th)sentenced the 112 Indian Fishermen apprehended by the Local  Fishermen  yesterday after entered   Sri Lankan Waters a two weeks imprisonment and ordered the authorities to keep the 18 trawlers which they traveled.

The group of Indian Fishermen apprehended by  local fishermen at point Pedro in northern sri lanka yesterday and handed over them to the police there.

Meanwhile most of the protesters including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi's daughter who got arrested today while staging  a protest campaign in front of Sri Lankan Consulate in Chennai to oppose the arrest of Indian Fishermen, were released on bail it has been reported

The House Of The Deceased Actress Was Burgled

The Police Sources has revealed  that the deceased Local Actress Vinu Wettamuny's house at Ratmalana was burgled after her death .Mount Lavinia Police who  investigates  the Murder of the Actress already sealed the house and the Post Mort um of the deceased is due to be conducted.

Hailing from Kalutara District  in the Western Province Vinu Wettimuny who was 26 years old at the time of her death first entered in to the small screen where she acted in Tele Dramas.Some of her popular Tele Dramas were "Ahasin Watunu Minissu","Weeduru Biththi" and "Udam Rali".She made her debut as a Silver Screen Actress in the year 2007/2008 from a film directed by her self  "Sihina Dewduwa" and she portrayed the main role in the film.

Karunanidhi's Daughter And 1000 Others Arrested At A Protest Out Side SL Consulate In Chennai

Around 1000 activists along with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi's daughter Parliamentarian  K. Kanimozhi got arrested by  Chennai Police today when they protested out side of Sri Lankan Consulate in Chennai .Police dispersed the protest which was headed by Chief Minister Karunanidhi by accusing that the Sri Lankan Fisherman apprehended  112 Indian  fisherman from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu at  Akkaraipattu fishing habitation in Northern Sri Lanka during last night

Protests also held in front of  Harbors in Tamil Nadu .

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Douglas Devananda has said that the 112 Indian Fisherman arrested last night will be released after an official investigation.The Minister has also said that the Indian Fisherman in Custody accepted their fault and pleaded pardon for fishing in Sri Lankan Waters.

Actress Vinu Wettimuny Murdered At Her Home

Young Local Film Actress and a film producer Vinu Wettimuny was murdered at her residence in Rathmalana  of Colombo Suburbs.According to the Police three suspects are believed to be involved with her murder.Police are conducting further investigations.

MP And Popular Local Actress Upeksha Swarnamali Admitted To Jaywardanpura Hospital Due To An Assault

Government MP and popular Sri Lankan Actress Upeksha Swarnamali who widely recognized here as "Paba" was admitted to the Kotte Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital after received facial injuries due to an assault at Home sources said.She is reported as having an internal bleeding.

Police are conducting an investigations on her assault as a domestic violence although no official complaint received regarding the assault sources said.

MP Swarnamali widely recognized here as "Paba" after she portrayed the  main role in the recently concluded "Paba"Tele drama was elected to Parliament from the Gampaha District with highest number of votes under the main opposition the United National Party's(UNP) ticket and later she joined  the Government.

Token Strike Of Paramedics Paralyzed The Government Hospital Services

Due to an Island Wide token strike launched by the Professionals Supplementary to Medicine(PSM) attached to Government Hospitals today demanding to fulfill five of their service demands,had  paralyzed the issuing of medicines through the out door patient departments,Laboratory Tests,Radiography Tests and Physio Therapy and Occupational Therapies in the Hospitals.

Only emergency services are maintaining  during the 24 hour strike which scheduled to end 8 a.m tomorrow morning according to the PSM Professionals.

However the Major Hospitals including  the National Hospital in Colombo issued special tokens to the Patients who came to get the medicine from OPD pharmacies of hospitals which enable them to purchase drugs free of charge through the State Owned Pharmacies.Same Hospitals have send patients who need emergency Lab Tests,Radiography Tests to the Private Hospitals for these tests according to the officials.

The Professionals Supplementary To Medicine(PSM) compromising Government Pharmacists,Medical Laboratory Technicians(MLT),Radiographers,Physiotherapists and occupational Therapists launched the token strike this morning at 8 a.m demanding to fulfill five demands including  implementation of the delayed promotions of the special grade and first grade of their  professionals .If the Health Ministry has  not taken steps to fulfill their demands immediately the PSM has decided to launch an Island wide continuous strike from 23rd of February till their demands are fulfilled the secretary of the Association of Professionals Supplementary To Medicine Harendra Kuruppu has said.

A False Alarm Of A British Passenger On A Bomb Threat In Sri Lankan Air Line Flight To London Proved As Hoax

A Bomb threat received by the Sri Lankan Air Lines Air Bus 340 which bounded to London U.K found as a  Hoax after checked the Air Bus  which got landed to Male International Air Port this evening,Soon after the Air Bus got landed to Male International Air Port in Maldives  a British Passenger name Clement Paul  who boarded the Plane started alarming fellow passengers that a bomb was on board the Flight.

After searching the flight it proved that the Bomb Threat was a hoax and afterward the Air Bus left to London, Sri Lankan Air Lines Has announced.The Maldives National Defense Force was evacuated the Passengers boarded in Sri Lankan Flight for a search in Male and when it proved the alarm is hoax the British Passenger who was responsible for the act  was apprehended by the Authorities in Male.

After the search the 199 Passenger Air Bus which is flying Colombo to London via Male left for London.

400,000 Plastic Containers To Minimize The Wastage Of Fruits And Vegetables During Transportation


To minimize the wastage of fruits and vegetables during their transportation  the Internal Trade Ministry has  today began distributing of 400,000 Plastic Containers for traders to Pack Fruits and Vegetables when transporting.

According to the Ministry Of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando using of Plastic Containers to transport Fruits and Vegetables is made a  compulsory with effect from 01st of March this year.These Plastic Containers are bought from the Government and will distribute for the relevant groups through the economic centers Minister further said.

The First Indian Private Ferry Sailing Towards Sri Lanka

Although Some Local officials claimed  that the Indian Media Reports on re commencing of Indo- Sri Lanka Private Ferry during last week is not true it has been reported that the Ferry "MSV Raj TTN 241" carrying 250 tonnes of Food items had left from the old Port of Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu by early hours yesterday and  heading towards Sri Lanka .

The ferry with a 10 crew members is scheduled  to arrive Colombo Port  today according to the sources.According to the Coastal Sail Vessels Owners Association the Ferry would be operated weekly basis and it will expand four tours per week based on the volume of the business.
